I can't help but feel that people who say this forgot the atrocity of service that Hyundai had and continues to serve to all Sonata/Elantra/Santa Fe owners from the past 5-8 years with engine failures. Their service is truly bottom rung. My brother-in-law's car had the famous knocking issue and brought his car into the dealership multiple times, each time being told he might've had a bad oil change interval resulting in the issue (BS, and he did all his service @ the dealer on time, on record). When we fought for an engine swap after CELs turning on on the drive home from the dealer, they would still try to blame us. It wasn't without fierce fighting that the dealer offered the warrantied engine swap. We paid for TWO tows before they finally admitted it could be the issue that is *well known*. (Note that Hyundai didn't recall nearly all of the cars or offer to do the fix, so you will see fewer of these cars rolling around now as owners give up on their cars and sell them for scrap when their engines pop).
Upon trying to starting to do the engine swap, the dealer even tried to scam us into buying a new set of spark plugs for the engine, when the warrantied block comes SHIPPED WITH SPARK PLUGS. They tried to get us to buy "a new set of plugs" or "swap the old ones over on your own dime". We told the dealer to "swap the old ones over" but told them they're responsible for the cost since this is all WARRANTY WORK. They called us back 30 minutes later telling us the block already had new plugs in it. What a joke. Still trying to nickel and dime the customer with lies.
Stories like this are covered up but rampant. Just search these terms on google: hyundai engine knock reddit or hyundai engine knock forum
You'll see how Hyundai treats its customers then. Hyundai tries to actively disguise this massive issue in their engine as bad fuel, or bad spark plugs, etc. Guess what? The Genesis service team lives out of Hyundai's dealerships. All of Hyundai staff have already trained to be resistant and reluctant to admit fault and take warranty claims. You can bet your ass Hyundai is trying to buy everyone's opinions out. It's how the Chaebols of Korea do it, and it's why Genesis looks like it's able to break into the market.
You're buying a rebadged Hyundai. Enjoy your first 2-3 years, and expect it to be shit after that.

What you describe is more what people experience with brands like Mazda/Ford in this part of the world (my brother in law is literally going through a similar thing right now with his 5 CX5 which has a failed engine and Mazda are giving him the run around & trying to blame it on him even though it's been serviced perfectly according to schedule by the very dealer that's now trying to screw him). I'm not a Hyundai owner or fanboy BTW, don't own one, never have - just heard nothing but good things about them here.

Truly a perfect use of an EV drivetrain. When the mass market battery and motor setup most closely approximates the luxury barge experience, it should be used for that purpose. The weight, smooth torque, and price match it perfectly to a car like the G80 so that even a rushed retrofit makes for one of the more compelling luxury EVs.
It’s also cool to see how efficient this is given the same battery size as the Ioniq 5 and EV6, likely due to the length, low roof, and aerodynamic design. Goes to show that while crossovers can get similar gas MPG to similar sized sedans, in terms of range the gap is a bit larger.
I still really want to see you guys review a Lucid. Based on Jason Camissa’s review, it seems it’s a sports sedan in luxury clothing, like a fully thought out G80EV.
Also, good god, learn some things about charging. The people who can afford this for daily commutes, nights out, airports, and to go to conferences in the nearby metrocenter will almost never fast charge. 240V, even at relatively low amps will recuperate 50-100 miles of range overnight, and higher power home chargers at 20KW can recharge these cars in 4-6 hours. I know you’re driving this continuously and extensively to test it, but luxury car drivers go places, come home, and plug in. That’s it.
Go watch Technology Connections’ EV charging video - it makes this point so much better than a comment can. Alec has been doing this EV thing longer than you guys have and he gets that half the appeal is (almost) never thinking about re-fueling/charging.
You guys should have enough experience with EVs to understand that L2 charging is more than enough for 90% of normal (light vehicle)drivers and 99.5% of their daily trips. Hell, 280 miles of range would be enough for my 2 hour weekend spirited backroad drives, or skiing trips to nearby mountains, or a trip to NYC and back, and plenty for my daily commute or grocery trips.

I get why you'd lease under the basis that it is an in-between ICE and ground-up EV. I suppose you'd dump it in three years and get the next EV Genesis generation which is a bit sad.
I hope people treat cars a bit less as a disposable product with 3 years of life and stay using things long-term. Always changing cars because you want the "newest" seems like a waste and the perfect trap of capitalism you fall for.

With so much push for EV all around the globe from governments & manufacturers alike, I see a ton of reviews being done on them left & right (although I only watch a select few I know are quality work like this one) I am astonished at how little it is discussed around how to actually solve the big elephant in the room, charging.
Other than Tesla, not a single manufacturer or country is seriously trying to address the challenge of how to deliver the electricity necessary to satisfy the theoretical demand if even 25% of current ICE vehicles were replaced by EVs
I know you guys are focused on the North America market and have actually glanced on this topic multiple times but I find it interesting how little in the shape of real effort is being made to show real commitment to push the move.

they dont recyle batteries either. they should at least offer enough battery for everyday use, then gas generator for lighter weight car for lower cost, more driving fun by agility, more efficiency at least when using battery only bc more batteries u add the exponentially less efficient it gets.

If you have the money to lease a G80, you most likely have a garage where you can charge overnight. 95% of charging is done at home. Most people rarely go on long road trips. The importance of the supercharger network is overblown.

Could it be that this is a "compliance car"?
Meaning, it's just to get Genesis's overall EPA/Emissions rating way down, because all their models count towards emissions, so the bastardization is a quick & cheap way to get numbers down, making it a necessary evil so other models can be the great, powerful ICE vehicles we want them to be.
