I really wish Riddick would have gotten more love over the years. Yes there are three movies, and a great game, but the universe felt like it had so much more to offer.

The eyeshine is described as a genetic trait exclusively inherited by Alpha Furyans like Riddick, whom is also stronger than the others. While all Furyans possess peak human physiology, the Alphas are known to be damn near, if not outright, superhuman. Not all Furyans possess this gene. The game is canon but the films retconned the games as Jack points out nothing he told her about the prison was true when it came to the eyeshine. In the game we never see Riddick get his eyeshine surgery as he described it. All the surgeon did was stitch up his wound. Riddick who knew NOTHING of his Furyan heritage simply attributed it to the surgeon as an explanation. He was wrong. Vaako even tells Riddick he fought a Furyan during the genocide that possessed the same eyes as him, further proving it is a natural trait.

Ok so they call Riddick a breeder cause necromongers can't have children and breeder is what they refer to all non-necromongers as. Necromongers also cannot feel pain which is what that mark on the neck does to them so they aren't invincible, they just cant feel the damage done to them or at least it is numbed a great deal and explains why they seem inhumanly strong at times like when Vako breaks that dudes spine. And in defense of the shakey cam: they only seem to do it when it's on Riddick to illustrate how quick he seems to be and I actually love it for that purpose. Oh. And to explain his eyes; about 20% of male Furyans have them. They are the alpha furyans as they are the fastest, strongest, and most in touch with their animal side. Because of how Riddick was brought up, he's likely the most dangerous of his kind if they were still alive making him personify the strengths of his race to the extreme.

You got to give the movie credit for this: it tried to establish a pretty creative universe for itself. In Pitch Black, we really didn’t know much about this universe the characters were living in except that there was a place called New Mecca, and there were mercenaries and bounty hunters searching for escaped convicts and killers like Riddick, and that the particular planet they were on had nocturnal predators. CoR, for all its shortcomings, really blew the possibilities of this universe wide open.

The theatrical release omitted the whole vision sequence of the Furian girl, the racial vengeance arc, and the physical mark. It tightened up the story and left Riddick's infant background to be deduced from the (copious) story clues. It focused the story on Riddick himself vs. the Lord Marshal as sort of Biblical retribution, and as personal vengeance for the Imam and Jack, rather than destiny. And it returned the surprise of the last moment reveal of the Purifier as a Furian ("The Furian in me hopes...").

Zhylaw isn't an elemental he manipuates the power of his soul, lord marshals take a trip into the underverse and return half alive, half dead and can manipulate their soulpower he is super fast because he can detach his soul from his body, when he moces his soul his body than follows it at a near instant speed

Fun fact, Riddick was based on one of Vin Diesel's player characters in Dungeons & Dragons.

Love the ambition of this movie, shame it didnt take off. Love how much they attempted to expand the series.

This movie is way under-rated. It's my favorite of the Riddick movies and I felt it ended just right. Yes, it embraces its inner Conan, which is why it can seem like fantasy, but it still does so in a sci-fi manner. I think Robert E Howard fans really dig this one for that reason.

I am torn about ranking "Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles of Riddick". Mainly because in TCOR, you got an explanation about who Riddick is and why he is such a good killer. But my very favorite movie, so far, is "Riddick". Hands down. Can' t wait for your reaction.

There is also an animated movie, “Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury” that is a direct follow up to Pitch Black and I believe connects to the Butcher Bay video game.
