Hi TSL fam! This was so cool to go out and shoot the weekend in Yosemite with the NEW Tamron 20mm Sony E mount lens. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
I used to love shooting with a 20mm lens when I shot with the Canon 1DX & Sigma 20mm Art (something I learned from Joe McNally with his Nikkor 20mm 1.8). Since moving over to the Olympus, I have quite enjoyed using the 7-14 2.8 PRO, right at that sweet spot of 10mm (20mm field of view). For some reason though I do miss having a prime at that field of view. Thanks Jay!
That's awesome, Stan! How have you found the Olympus with the 7-24 compares to the Canon 1DX with Sigma 20mm? I haven't shot with an Olympus in over 30 years! Maybe it's time for another camera comparison. :)
@@TheSlantedLens I do love the way it renders and the images are nice and sharp. My wish is still for a faster aperture prime in that M43rd 10mm range. I did play with the gorgeous Panasonic Leica 10-25 f/1.7 while at PhotoPlus last fall and at some point may add that (even if it is for our videographer!). Ps., let me know if you would like me to get you some Oly gear sent out! All the best JP!
20mm would be great for Yosemite. I have never been to an area with such concentration of beauty in such a small space. The 20mm "might" also be a nice adjunct to the Tamron 28-75mm f.2.8 because of the form factor and cost. It is smaller, lighter and a lot less expensive than the Tamron 17-28mm and, while not quite as versatile, it might give you a wider advantage than the 28mm side of the Tamron 28-75mm lens,,,
I don't have any fancy lenses, like that, but I've been using Luminar for a couple of years now. I've created a couple of "favorite" "presets". I try to use one, specifically, for my Instagram posts to try and keep my shots consistent. But then I'll post some weird shot of a bathroom scale (or worse), and blow my consistent content completely to Hades. :)
Oh that's awesome! Yes, it's great for making a preset that is your style to keep your social media brand consistent! Haha! Well if you feel called to post the bathroom scale (or worse) then follow your heart. :P
It looks like an interesting lens, but f/2.8 would be too small for much of my work. Would be fine for travel or general street work though, nice and compact. I own the sigma 20mm 1.4 and it gives me the dof control I want. I love it.
Great video! I hope you show more of Luminar. I just started using it more, trying to move away from Adobe. As I get older I enjoy lite gear. I like the idea of the Tamron 20mm, but I wish is was a little faster. Although it does have a good price point. I live sort of close to Yosemite. Valley View is one of my favorite spots any time of year.
Thank you so much, Dennis. Glad you appreciated the video! We will definitely be showing more of Luminar. I'm really excited about the software and am excited to learn more and share what I learn using it. The 20mm is definitely impressive at its price point. Oh that's awesome! It was definitely quite a drive for me but it's always worth it. You're lucky to live close to it!
Great review, tks! I just sold my Nikon DX DSLR and I am deciding about Sony a7III or 7IV, and about the lenses, I would like your opinion please. I am an enthusiast photographer and shoot more landscapes, street photography... With my Nikon, the lenses that I most used was a 18-200mm and a 10-20mm, and for the Sony, I intend to buy a Tamron 28-200 and for the wide angle, I am about to decide between the Tamron 17-28 (US$ 799) and the Tamron 20mm (US$ 249)... but their price difference is considerable. Please, what is your opinion about this "bundle" (28-200mm + 17-28mm or 20mm) and about the 17-28mm vs the 20mm? Or maybe the Tamron 28-200mm with a Sony 20mm f/1.8 (so I covered for zoom + wide and low light situations). Thank you
I think you should buy the a7IV. It has faster autofocus. The lenses that make the most sense are the 28-200 and the 17-28mm. We use both those lenses and love them!
They will be be cropped. Cropped full frame lenses are not always that sharp on an APS-C sensor. I would go with the new tamron that is coming out. The 17-70 2.8 sony e lens. It's a great lens and will give you a 25mm wide. Wider than these will give you. For APS-C that is a great lens.
Thanks to Tammy and Sammy for helping us “low budget photographers” 😂
Everything on RUclips is low budget!

I love the macro capabilities and the ideas to include the far away along with the up close and the dimension it creates! Love it!
I do to. It is so fun to work with a lens that will give you that depth.

Lots of good things to think about. Thanks for sharing!
Nice photo. Lovely sun star. Thanks for the video and the good work! I used to live not far outside Yosemite.
Cool, thanks. It is a beautiful area. Nice to get away once in a while.

its also 3x the cost.. lol..

You sold me on both products: I got the lens and the software. Great video and stunning shots. Thanks for sharing.
Great to hear! Enjoy shooting with your new lens!
Fun review, thanks! Another review talked about barrel distortion in this lens. Doesn’t seem like you found it to be an issue (?)
We didn't test the barrel distortion. That would be a good thing to test.
Great video I just picked this lens up!! 😀
Let us know how you like it!
@@TheSlantedLens been a very fun lens so far and autofocus isn't bad at all
It work good if i dont have IS in body ?
Awesome videos and amazing shots brother!
Thanks a ton.
Do you have comparison of samyang 18mm 2.8 af vs tamron 2.8
We haven't tested the Samyang.
Have you shot with a 20mm lens before?
Distortion control is very bad on this lens, look at the image at 4:22 , it's fisheye like Distortion
I shoot even portraits with my Nikon 20mm lens!
Oh awesome! Tag us on social media so we can see your work! @theslantedlens

How would these lenses perform with a Sony a6400?

You're a very pleasant host! I would have liked more stitching examples!
I love stitching images. I will do more.
Its just the video AF that troubles me about these lenses they can flip out of focus ive heard from other reviews. I love the form factor of course.
With a 20mm lens I don't use auto focus in video mode so I haven't had that experience.
I am God!!
Is that so, Rico?! haha
"no switches allow this lens to be small"
What? That is wrong. There are smaller lenses than this with physical switches and buttons.
That is one of the contributing factors to be able to make the lens smaller and light weight.
@@TheSlantedLens 3 grams of a switch is nothing
it has pretty horrible distortion
We haven't had that experience. Thanks for watching!
When it comes to edit sky on Sony it sucks. This is a big problem with Sony. If you try to dehaze Sony can't handle it.
You have to be careful not to overdo it. Thanks
Ansel Adams wannabe.
LOL. That would be a great honor!
