      Don't thank Sony!!!
      Sony,for years', treated it's large apsc owner base with contempt.
      It was,initially, left to Sigma- with it's legendary "trio"- to fill the gap.
      Now, Tamron has come to the party with high quality zooms.
      Samyang has provided quality, initially manual focus, primes for some time.

      @@robertcudlipp3426 and now the 12mm with AF. Great time to be an apsc owner. Agree with you though....their last apsc lens from Sony was 2 years ago. The only upper hand Sony had with their lenses it seems was autofocus but this and the samyang seem up to par.

  • @christophercrumpton9699
    @christophercrumpton9699 3 месяца назад

    This has quickly become my favorite walk around + travel lens, and more or less lives on my camera now. Ultra wide at 11 is great for landscapes, close quarters, and selfies, and the 20mm is great for street and travel. Not to mention when you take Sony's clear image zoom into account, with that 2x on the 20mm end, you basically get a lens that stretch all the way from 11 to 40mm, and at f2.8. I have a few lenses including a couple zooms and primes, but for my casual day to day, seems more often than not I end up grabbing the Tamron.

    I shot my very first wedding with the Tamron 17-70. I saved up for MONTHS and got a used copy. Although I missed focus at a few important moments (thinking it was either me or my a6000), I cannot recommend it enough! SUCH an upgrade from the kit lens and my 50mm f1.8.
    Thinking about doing more landscapes, as I hike a lot and eventually hoping to shoot the Northern Lights, now I want this one as well! When I was looking for wide-angle af lenses, all I could find was that 10-14. I am so excited about this one, but I will be waiting on it for a while. Thank you for the review!

      Good call on a replacement for your kit lens! I've been through a few lenses for the 6000 series cameras, including the "Sigma trio" (great lenses btw), but since I mounted the 17-70 on my camera, it hasn't come off once.
      I'm tempted by this lens too, I actually had it in my cart and was ready to checkout, but I ended up just going for the Samyang aka Rokinon 12mm instead after watching Arthur's review. I just can't justify spending almost $1K on a lens that I'll sparingly use.

      As a Nikon DSLR shooter who's been paying attention to Sony and Fuji APSC mirrorless over the years I admit I've been very impressed with the number of people who continue to use all of the different models. When people recommend Sony or Fuji they talk about all the models as if it's just different flavors and you can pick and choose what you like. With Nikon and Canon. It appears to me. And I may be wrong. That people always want the latest model. But people are still using and buying and recommending the a6000 and the T1 on up just based upon what they need and how much you want to spend. That's very impressive to me.

    Great video as always dear Arthur, thank you! 👍 Your clear pronounciation and emphasis makes it easy to me to follow each single word of yours. Go on with that, man! 🤗 Already owning the 17-70 f2.8, either the 11-20 f2.8 or the new Samyang 12 f2.0 would be the right lens for me to add on wide angle. (Sony 10-18 is out due to its quality dispersion.) Over here in Germany, the Samyang (400€) is less than half the price of the Tamron (900€, bah, would force me to eat old bread for 3 months or so to get the bucks in). So a detailed comparison by you of those 2 lenses on 12mm would be awesome and really help for buying decision … Your little boy gets cuter from video to video, by the way, really enjoyable to watch. Best wishes and many greets from Chris the Bierkoenig, Berlin 🥳🍺

    Incredible looking lens. Good to see more great stuff for ASP-C camera as they are my favorite bodies to use. As for image stabilization, after shooting film cameras for 30 plus years, no stabilization what-so-ever, I see no problem with this ultrawide for taking great pictures. If one is so bad with the shakes, then take a tripod along. I've even shot with a 500mm mirror lens without tripod, got great shots. You just have to know how to shoot with fast shutter speeds or brace yourself against a non moving object, like a wall or tree.

      BTW I can't wait for that probably coming telephoto lens to compelete the trio! Two current ff 70-300 and 70-180 2.8 both fit great on apsc being light and relatively small. But the problem comes with the new 150-500 which looks funny on a6xxx bodies and is a big heft to carry. A crop version of that lens is appreciated being half the weight or at least something like a 100-400

    If you want wide, you might want to take a look at Sigmas 8-16 mm. Unfortunately, there is no version specifically for E-mount, but, maybe, the version for A-mount can be used with an adapter.
    I do say "maybe", because Sigma's 50-500 mm for A-mount certainly will not focus on an A6600, even with the latest adapter, the LA-EA5. I want that 8-16 mm for E-mount so much.

  • @setaside2
    @setaside2 3 года назад +1

    If you ever wondered why the Sony 10-18 was so bad in the corners and why it seemed the samples were all over the place in corner quality... it's largely because of the stabilization. The losses lenses take when attempting to expand the image circle in order to allow for OSS/VC/IS/etc, especially when the lens isn't given the room it needs to correct for that movement... well, those losses are heavy. As you've seen. Hence, most likely (aside from cost and the inevitable increase in price), the reason for no VC in this lens. Fantastic overview, sir.

    I just bought this lens (Prime Day 2023 - Australia). Paid the equivalent of US$640 that compared better (total landed cost with shipping and 10%GST) than buying it off the Amazon US site (slightly lower base price). I'm still running an old NEX-6 but have me eye on the new A6700 (I've been waiting patiently... LoL). I also bought the Sony 20mm f1.8 and the Tamron 20-40mm f2.8 to compare with a view to later buying a full frame Sony body. I'm interested to see how these all compare at 20mm and with Amazon's generous return policy even down here in the colonies I can send back the 20mm Sony if it doesn't bang for the buck but I hear it has excellent night shooting characteristics and excellent coma flare and astigmatism control for light sources. Thanks for your reviews.

    Back in January 2020, I gave up on Fuji and one of the main reasons was that I discovered that there was not a single APSC 11-23 f2.8 lens on the market. That range and speed proved to be my most used range in 2019. I had to carry the X-H1 with the XF 8-16 and the X-T3 with the XF 16-55 to have that range with constant f2.8. I switched to an A9 with the 16-35 GM. An 11-20 f2.8 would have done it for me, I would have stayed with APSC (even if it was Sony instead of Fuji). Too late for me but glad APSC users how have this lens as an option.

    I need an ultra wide angle lens for indoor Real Estate videography with Sony ZV-E10 camera, what do suggest which lens is wider and a good choice for my work, Tamron 11-20mm or Samyang 12mm, Tamron is more expensive in my country but if it's a better than I'll manage please advise ?

    A nine year old "second rate" Sony apsc lens.
    Sony really treats its large apsc owner base like dirt.
    This Tamron len has received universally rave reviews.

    interesting, but why the price is slightly more expensive than sony 10-18 here in Indonesia?

    Been watching your videos for a while, love the content, I bought the sigma 56mm and Tamron 17-70 after watching your videos. One question I have for you, I am going on a trip to Arizona and Utah, visiting lots of beautiful places, I wanted to purchase the Sigma 16mm F1.4 for the trip to take some landscape photos, and maybe a night sky shot or two, but after this video I am wondering if I should get the Tamron 11-20 instead? Thoughts? I'll probably eventually have both, but I just upgraded from the a6000 to the a6400 as well so budget will only allow one lens purchase as well lol.

    Can you compare the wide angle difference between this and the Sony 11mm

    Maybe this is a odd question, but If I have to choose one from Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 vs Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8, which one should I go for ? My requirements are travel photography, portraits of my daughter/wife and landscapes like mountains/ponds. Also I visit to cities in night so I take pics of architecture buildings that are glowed in night.

      I’d say 11-20 would be best for your needs because 20mm should be okay for portraits but you’ll benefit so much with the 11mm for the landscapes

    Can you do a review of this vs the new Samyang 12mm AF? I’d love to hear your findings on that.
    The 11-20 is on my list! The 10-18 was tempting until I saw your review and how inconsistent the QC seemed. Been waiting on a lens like this for a long time haha

      he talked about it in this video. Not a lot, but he did. Tamron is sharper. I own the 12mm samyang mf and wouldn´t recommend it

    Dope video. Looking to upgrade my cameras for my video shoots for my construction projects. One of my issues, when I'm shooting our projects is that there are wide and long (retaining walls) So I'm trying to squeeze as much of the project into the frame as possible. Will it be a lot of noise in the corners if I have the lense at 11 (widest)?

    11:37 tamrons dont seem to have the creamiest out of focus background. have you ever experimented with a CPL filter to see the effect it would have on the bokeh?
