Loved this review. I just purchased the ZV E10 for Black Friday. I record RUclips videos of me creating jewelry and I also take photos of my jewelry. I'm pretty excited.
30 million views on YT in the first year from a IPhone 12 Pro Max and a Canon M50 (and not even the mark II) IMO spend money on the lighting and mic vs the camera year 1 Now I am shopping for a 4k camera full frame as I am making money off YT, and I am not going to spend stupid money as that would be dumb. Grow as you make money.
The best camera for beginners starting off in RUclips is their phone to be honest. It takes care of the basics with little to worry about and has manual controls.
@@ThinkMediaTV Still making my way through the video because it is long... lol. I seen the Chase Jarvis line part. I remember when he said that. But yes, I started doing RUclips and the phone was my best friend. I have a DSLR but it was so much easier to just buy a plug-in mic, a phone bracket (for the tripod I have), and start recording. Truth is cell phone mics are not half bad to begin with if you do not have an external mic. But you also now get varying camera options on modern phones so you can go normal, wide, tele in the middle of the video shoot. You can even pause (I hear this is an android thing) and adjust your scene and press continue and keep recording (I use this a lot). It is just so easy. I will eventually take my time to test out the DSLR but for now I just upgraded my phone (from a S10 to S23 Ultra) for better low light and quality. I also purchased little hand size lights that fit on mini table tripods for extra light (to battle the smaller sensor issue compared to DSLRs). So it all works and is easy.
WHAT a great video. Breaking down everything for those out there that don't know anything about cameras this really is good info. I am only 25% of the way into the video. I would love to see a video by someone that talks about buying USED equipment for streaming - so there are cameras you can buy used that are way cheaper than buying a new low end camera. Anything to avoid a "webcam".
Thank you for this great informative masterclass. I know nothing about cameras and videography, but now and because of you I know what to buy. From now on I'm one of your channel followers.
Hey Sean this video , regardless how many views , is crucial for those of us who have just got started and all this info to start a channel . That being said for all who are serious about it, needed this course.
Thanks for the guide. Gets me up to speed quickly. Just started a youtube channel, using old gear I had. Nikon D500 with 30mm f1.4 and Canon 200D MK i with 24mm f2.8. Currently have Sony A7s IV penciled in for when I can afford it after it comes out. With limited space, full frame makes more sense and being able to record in 4k provides the option to crop in on videos or downscale for sharper quality. Backup plan is a Canon R8 or just the Sony A7s III.
Wow! The comparison charts are just what I was looking for. This is best, most informative and fundamental video on this subject that I could find. Thank you.
Thank Sean for making a layman like myself understand what I need in a new camera. I'm thinking of purchasing the SONY ZV-E10 to film my YT videos and for filming my videos for my online courses.
Sean I noticed you mentioned the Canon R50 had very limited use of lenses, which is only partially true. With an adapter (Canon’s at $99) all the Canon EF lenses become available for this camera too. I use my adapter and the EF 10-18mm for my vlogging and the results have been awesome. Also, the Canon RF 16mm isn’t the only option for use on still video. For that I use my Canon 24mm mostly but have used my Canon RF 18-150 as well. There are plenty of different ways to do this and there’s no doubt the possibilities will grow in the future. No one should be afraid to go with Canon but I do favor starting with the R10.
Thanks for the great information. I got started almost 3 years ago with a Camcorder (Canon VIXIA HF R800) and I do not regret my decision. $300 for the camcorder w/ memory card, and another $300 for basic mics, softbox lights, and a few other items got me started. A camera is on my future purchase list, but for a hobby channel making $40 per month, $2K for a camera and lens is hard to justify. I still would not put "video quality" in my top 5 areas I want to fix to grow my channel.
This video was what I was looking for. It covers everything you need to know about purchasing your next camera. Kid you not I’m waiting on a ride to got to Best Buy to grab the EZ-E10.
Many years ago, I had a panasonic lumix _waterproof_ camera. It had a *super past full off to taking the 1st shot time,* I left burst mode enabled, and it fit easily in most pockets. It was great. I'd take it hiking, rafting, bouldering, you name it. It did the *take anywhere / always ready* so well. My aunt had the non-waterproof version that instead was able to mount lenses. Each has their purpose, but I felt like I had much more use/utility than she got out of hers. I've missed that camera ever since it got stolen. I've been considering buying something like that again.
Very informative, I'll see you on another video. Thanks. Going to make some videos with phone first, then more training, I don't know how to get a channel yet.
@sean you are a real videographer lol I am a former videographer myself and I definitely understood every last thing you said lol knowledge I haven't taped into in a long time
This video was super helpful. As a new channel that started 6 months ago and looking to buy my 1st camera this video was huge on knowledge. Big thanks !!!! Still lots to learn so will be watching more of your content
Hi Sean, I loved the video, thanks for giving so many tips. You talked a lot about filming with the camera still and in this style of video where only the person appears. In this case, I film recipes, with me appearing in the video at times. To have this blurry background effect in the case of recipe videos, which camera do you think is best? My budget isn't the best because everything is very expensive in Brazil, I could at most go up to the Canon R50.
wow...thank you for this video. i'm starting to shoot some videos and the information i gained was mind blowing. thank you for putting this together, truly appreciated.
very informative . but if you going to film outdoors at low temperatures there is one thing to think about how camera performs in cold temperatures . I had bad experencie with my gopro9 at near 0 C and below temperatures , when initially showed battery 40 % then suddenly shut down with low battery message.
dude Iphone 15, you can buy attachments and lens adjustments. you have all your data there to edit on your phone and post. The latest mobile phones are designed for social media content creation
Before finding your channel I knew 0,000 of 0 about cameras. You literally saved me from a cascade of mad trips to Jumanji Camera Jungles! I might buy one Sony despite my biased preference for American brands, to experience my first Solo Video Marathon, 3 days will be necessary to talk about crazy spiritual matters. I will be the director, the witness, the actor so simplicity, fluidity, unlimited recording with excellent image audio quality is what I need. I just need to stabilize the video in a room and start recording after chaotic tests. Seems that the ZV Sony E10 is the best choice. The FX 30 if I can. A zillion thanks to you, you are the perfect teacher. Hope this finds you well as I see last comment was 11 months ago.
I'm a beginner. I need a camera I can easily move around my house and that has a good mic or that can have a mic plugged in. I'd like to be able to plug the camera in while filming. Sometimes I'd be filming in the basement. I don't know if I need 4k since I'm just planning to talk about books. I'd like a lot of storage capacity. My main hesitation on using my phone is limited storage capacity.
Stick to 1080p. People look better in 1080. 4k is mostly hype. The file sizes are HUGE, trickier to record, and take longer to edit and upload. Most people don't have 4k monitors or don't really care. If you are a beginner, you don't need any fancy or expensive stuff. Use your phone and a decent budget lighting setup. You don't need large storage capacity on the phone. Write your script and record it in pieces, then download each segment to your computer and delete from the phone and record the next one. You splice them together for a long-form video during editing.
This guide is excellent. I've been using Sonys for years, but I sold all my equipment. Now I'm at a new company and I need to build up a camera package proposal and this is so helpful! Thanks Think.
Great content Sean, thank you for explaining the advantage of having an hybrid camera, to be able to do video and photography. The Sony Alpha 7 IV seem a good choice for us.
Very informative video, thanks. I was looking for a new camera to use for a course I'm creating (Linux systems and automation) and found your video. I'm getting closer to choosing a camera. Leaning toward Sony ZV-E10 or Canon R50. Thanks again!
I haven’t even finished watching the whole video and I wish I could have watched yours specifically before I bought a camera. I’m still happy though because I got the Canon R50 which I’ve heard really good reviews on it!
Thanks for the great content. Insta360 Ace Pro and DJI Pocket 3 look so good that I can not make a decision: a second dslr (+my old friend Sony a7m3) or one of the abovementioned cams? Any comments are welcomed.
@ThinkMediaTV What kind of lens would you recommend for fitness/yoga videos for the Sony A6700. Would the Sigma 16mm still work well for that use? Also, I loved the video! Very helpful information.
I think they are great solution for a very specialized need. Pro: convenient and allows for skilled opperators to manage multiple cameras by themselves Con: they don't have "the look" that proper camera and great glass (lenses) will produce
The best thing about the zve-10 aside from its jack of all trades abilities, is its super compact size. Makes it a no brainer to take any and everywhere. And the kit lens isnt horrible btw. Especially for only a hundred bucks? It gives you the essential focal ranges you need. And the af is snappy and you can affect the speed of the zoom if you want a cinematic looking zoom in video
@@allthecommonsense They meant the Sony ZV-E10 (56:30). The Sony ZV-1 (56:00) lens is not swappable where as the ZV-E10 can be changed with other compatible lenses for that system. I'm looking for a camera myself for content creation and for taking with me on the go when I travel so the ZV-E10 is likely what I'm going to buy.
on the sony ZV-1 why would you need an hdmi cable when it does usb streaming? is it just because you want to input it into your ATEM switcher? also what is your USB going into then for charging if you're already using an HDMI? thank you
I’ve watched several RUclips videos related to overheating while live streaming. I have some live interviews I’ll be doing soon and it’s just worrisome. I’ve seen the ZV-E10 overheating (or you have to change the internal temp control to prevent it from shutting down), I’ve seen people complain the Sony A6700 overheats while live streaming. I guess I’m just confused. Out of this first list. Which ones won’t over best while live streaming for, say if the interview runs about 2 hours? Is it only the FX30 because it has an internal fan? Thanks so much
Thanks for the video! Which camera do you recommend between the Sony ZV1 and the Sony ZV 1F for videos on RUclips where I play the guitar and for some holiday photos?
..and here i am wondering why the iPhone 16 has flawless videos. And should i buy it for my 1st film or is there a better android version.. im out of storage on both my old phones and need something asap. Help
If I were to buy like a Sony a6700 or FX30 and plug in 1080p or even 4k 30fps, can it last for at least 10h without overheating? For streaming and stuff?
Hi, I had watched an earlier video on your channel recommending the Sony ZV-E10 - as most affordable to start but I was told by the seller that it heats up too quickly and I can only record to 20-30minutes maximum? Is that right. What would be the recommended set up after this if it was.? Cheers
Wow, so much amazing info and I love how you organize the video and give me questions to think about when researching. Thanks for the hard work that went into this video
I think the most important point that spoke directly to me, just starting out and thinking about my first attempt at creating content, is that I need to think closely about the non-negotiables. I'll be making technical content within a controlled environment. But I need to be able to go from shots covering (roughly) a drafting table viewpoint down to visualizing tiny microelectronics circuitry. My tentative take-away is that the lens is the starting point for me -- likely a macro-zoom such as the Sony FE 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II and let things fall out from there. It would be nice to rent one before buying. (I doubt that's happening.) Anyway, thanks. Regardless of your own choices, what all this time taken to make this video have given me is myriad questions to ask myself and also a lot of different technologies and their variations. It's just what I needed at this time, I think. Thanks!
I have a question regrading lighting and cameras. Currently I record with a Logitech Brio webcam in 1080p, 30 FPS (not high def). For my lighting I have two SpectroLED SP-E-3600 Essential 360 Daylight LED light panels (no backlight and I record in front of a gray painted wall). The lights produce 5600 degree K Light. I think the lighting is decent, but it doesn't compare with the quality of the Think Media videos. I'm thinking about upgrading my camera to a mirrorless camera and I have a couple questions. 1. Is it recommended to continue using my LED light panels are my point and fill lights? I've had them for about 13 years and they seem to work good. 2. If I did upgrade my camera to say a Sony FX30 would my current lighting be acceptable or should I swap that out too? 3. I sit at my desk to make videos so what lenses would be recommended to work with an FX30? Thanks in advance.
I'm between the Sony ZV-E10 and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 for indoor talking head videos for RUclips. I know that the DJI is originally for street vlogging but some RUclipsrs are saying that the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 can replace the Sony ZV-E10 for indoor talking head videos so it would be easier to use and less accessories.....(if It's true).
I currently use webcam AVerMedia PW513. Problem with it then it starts overheating whole mugshot feed on the livestream turns into a slideshow. Audio is fine, gameplay is fine, just my face turns into a slideshow. So I have to drop resolution to let it cool down a bit. Its very annoying problem. Also image is fairly noisy. I have two Elgato mini key light so I'm lit up very nicely, but image is still pretty noisy, some artefacts on the skin etc. So I'm starting to consider proper camera for live streaming and video making. Sony zv-e10 is very often recommended for content creation. Question is will it endure 3-4h stream without overheating. Also what lens to choose? So for now I have no idea what to choose.
I need a camera for shooting nature & wildlife, cityscapes, travel, food, action, people etc. and a camera with good videography capabilities for a very basic 15-30 minute podcast and high quality photo as in cover of Newsletter or V-zine. Does such a camera exist for a beginner without breaking the bank with great lens options?
The Clean HDMI topic was very helpful, it was something I'd been troublshooting for a while. I wonder if this same philosophy applies to when you utilize your IPhone as a StreamYards video source?
What is the best camera for recording lectures that are 1.5 to 2 hours long. The camera will sit still and not move. It needs to record for long periods without overheating, sometimes in poorly lit classrooms?
I’ve had a Nikon D5100 for over almost 10 years and I want to get amazing quality videos for my new YT channel. Should I just purchase a new lens for better quality, if so which one or should I purchase a new camera and new lenses altogether?
This was a great video! Thank you. Questions, please on the Sony ZV-1: I have a Shure MV7 mic. Can I hook it directly to the camera? Is there a USB port so, I can take the recorded video and transfer it my Windows PC? Thanks again.

Let me think about the Osmo Pocket 3 Axis Gimbal Camera and thanks for your guide 🤗
It is a great option, for sure!
What I can't seem to understand is when you stream to your laptop through the HDMI is that recorded on your laptop HD or the camera's SD card?
@ThinkMediaTV What kind of lens would you recommend for fitness/yoga videos for the Sony A6700. Would the Sigma 16mm still work well for that use? Also, I loved the video! Very helpful information.
Thank you for the helpful information!
Hello which camra is good for outdoor landscape and music video easy use?
How about the PTZs? For church livestreaming and live tallk show with audience filming. I would love to hear your take. Thanks for this great video
I think they are great solution for a very specialized need.
Pro: convenient and allows for skilled opperators to manage multiple cameras by themselves
Con: they don't have "the look" that proper camera and great glass (lenses) will produce
Thanks for the info and jumping into the video without all the bull crap. I subscribed and will watch other videos you have. Great job!
The best thing about the zve-10 aside from its jack of all trades abilities, is its super compact size. Makes it a no brainer to take any and everywhere. And the kit lens isnt horrible btw. Especially for only a hundred bucks? It gives you the essential focal ranges you need. And the af is snappy and you can affect the speed of the zoom if you want a cinematic looking zoom in video
zve-10 or zve-1? They made at least one typo in this video, so it sows confusion.
Went with the ZV1 Mark ii based on your recommendations. Battery won’t hold a charge very long? Like under an hour…is that right?
Filming in 4K? Yes. Common complaint. If I want to vlog with a camera like that… 2-3 batteries for a day out is essential.
@@ThinkMediaTV Yes 💯 4K all day. Thanks for the fast response!
on the sony ZV-1 why would you need an hdmi cable when it does usb streaming? is it just because you want to input it into your ATEM switcher? also what is your USB going into then for charging if you're already using an HDMI? thank you
I’ve watched several RUclips videos related to overheating while live streaming. Thanks so much
What about Sony A7R V
Are the preamp cleaner on this compared to the tascam x8?
which of these cameras has the best weather sealing?
Thanks for the video! Which camera do you recommend between the Sony ZV1 and the Sony ZV 1F for videos on RUclips where I play the guitar and for some holiday photos?
Great content
Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
..and here i am wondering why the iPhone 16 has flawless videos.
Thank you ! What do you think about Sony 7C II ?
Big hug for your and your team!
What’s your opinion on the Sony A7C (1.Generation)?
Thinking about buying when in sale at around 1300€ here in Germany.
I am learning so many things from you, Thank you!!
Thanks!
great want to know about lenses eosR50
Thanks in advance.
nikon z30 with 50mm f1.2, 100watt video light with softbox and a round reflector is good for most people doing yt. Thanks for your video :)
I thought sony stopped 3rd party lens support for auto focus? So the sigma 16 1.4 would not have af on the zv10?
Is there a camera that you can use for live streaming through Zoom and also record at the same time?
I'm assuming you goal is capture high quality video in addition to Zoom's recording feature?
Very helpful and informative content. Thank you very much 🙂✌️
I currently use webcam AVerMedia PW513.
Great content as always 👍 I have the equipment, but have big problems getting great picture and sound 😂
Incredible breakdown my friend!
Hello, how about the AGFA VLG4K ?
whats the best tiktok camera to use and lens? sony? canon?, I want something other then my iphone 15 thats way better quality for filming vertical
Pocket 3!
Whats your thoughts on the A7Cii vs FX30? I do video podcast but also want to take some pictures!
Im hoping you indicate which camera/s with unlimited video recording.
I’ve had a Nikon D5100 for over almost 10 years and I want to get amazing quality videos for my new YT channel. Should I just purchase a new lens for better quality, if so which one or should I purchase a new camera and new lenses altogether?
Great job
Glad this was valuable!
@@ThinkMediaTV thanks
This was right on time. As always, fantastic content. Thank you!
This was a great video! Thank you. Questions, please on the Sony ZV-1: I have a Shure MV7 mic. Can I hook it directly to the camera? Is there a USB port so, I can take the recorded video and transfer it my Windows PC? Thanks again.
Have you looked at the DJI Ronin?
Sean you mentioned you'd link a tour to your setup with the gear and cameras.... I don't see the link yet :)
Thanks
