    Jsyk that's not how you enable/disable Intel integrated graphics. You have to change the setting in the UEFI/BIOS to see the actual difference.

      How?

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  3 года назад +2

      Agreed. It's just a shortcut die disabling things when you're in Windows.
      If you're switching then off permanently, you do so in the bios.

      For clarification, this video was about switching it off via the device manager for testing etc. If you're making any changes to graphics, memory speed or overclocking etc, you can make quick changes in Windows for testing, but long term you're better setting it in the bios.

    so if I have a dedicated gpu (rx 570) plugged into my motherboard as well as a integrated gpu in my cpu (core i5 8600k) is my pc using my integrated graphics for some things or does it strictly only use my dedicated gpu? i am looking to buy a i7 9700f and wanting to know if switching will change absolutely anything because i do not want to have any more problems.

      You can select what GPU powers what in Windows via the Nvidia app.
      Obviously, if you plug your monitor onto the motherboard HDMI or displayport port, itbeillbuse integrated graphics. And the GPU if you plug it in there.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  3 года назад

      You need to think of the overall setup. Everything in your pc should work in harmony.
      You could have an amazing CPU and GPU, but if you have 2GB of memory, you don't run the latest games.
      Likewise, if you have a good GPU but a basic CPU, the CPU will throttle in man apps and games before the GPU is even pushed.
      You need to review what software and games you play and look at the recommended requirements to get a better picture of what you build. 👍

    I was wondering exactly this. If I understand correctly you are getting around 640 sols vs around 720 sols - a difference of around 80 sols per 1080ti - is that right? I'm currently deciding on upgrading my main (video editing + mining) system to a Threadripper 1950x or paying more for one of the Intel i9's but believe Ryzen doesnt have integrated graphics so would have no option other than use the GPU for display + mining.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  6 лет назад

      I get over 700 in both if I use integrated graphics. Sometimes chrome opens in a GPU and my sols decrease so I tend to close off everything when not working.
      I'm not sure paying for a good CPU is worth it for mining. Apart from my main pc, all my rigs have basic celerons.

    • @ms-media
      @ms-media 6 лет назад +1

      It was more the difference I was interested in, rather than absolute sols. Anyway thinking about it, maybe not that big a deal messing around with IG or if dont have IG (Ryzen). IG probably consumes more watts on the CPU (albeit not alot), could bump up the GPU power by 10W or so instead to compensate in part for drop in sols to drive the display, if cooling sufficient. As I mentioned this is a main (editing) system, thus why I am deciding on Threadripper or i9 update.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  6 лет назад +1

      yeah you could be right. I hasn't even thought about that.
      Perhaps increasing the power on my GPUs and disabling integrated graphics wild give me more sols at the same power.
      I'll look into how many watts the 8700K uses under different conditions.

      I think in your case, you should look at all the people testing this... and what games they are testing it on and move with what they are discovering. It may be feasible in your case to run two graphics cards and not to disable the integrated one, but for the people I am helping, this doesnt seem to be the case.
      One thing though, if you go in to the NVIDIA settings you can control which graphics card is being used by what game, but the problem I seem to be running in to is, that depending on how you install everything, and what order you install them in, creates unique types of problems and different solutions even for the same systems (i hope that makes sense)
      but what I would do if I was you, was find someone who has the exact same system and hardware AND software, that are experiencing the same problems.... and use their data to help you along your path! hope this helps you!

      This guy didn't assume anything! 😆
      There are situations where disabling integrated graphics can help. For example, when your CPU is bottling or when a specific app refuses to run through your GPU.

      It wouldn't be unreasonable. I disagree with that.
      Gaming laptops have mux switches so that integrated graphics can be turned off. This stops graphics from being run through the integrated graphics before the display, which usually increases FPS significantly.

      Mobile Ryzen CPUs have integrated graphics. Some desktop Ryzen chips too 👍

      Are you building a new PC? Check the stats for any CPU you buy. You might that there's a version of your Ryzen CPU that has integrated graphics and one that doesn't.

    don't do this on a laptop, your battery will tank really hard

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  4 года назад

      That should not happen. In fact, it should be the opposite.
      Generally speaking though, you wouldn't want to turn integrated graphics off on a laptop anyways. There are some situations where it could be useful, but you can only do it if your laptop has a dedicated graphics card.

      @@KevinMuldoon huh, I always thought that if you turned off the igpu then the laptop would only use the dedicated, which would reduce battery life

      Well, that is true in many situations, but it depends on what you're actually doing.
      Most people disable integrated graphics because of bottlenecks, rather than because of trying to reduce battery life.
      Integrated graphics should consume less power than a discrete GPU for general usage like browsing etx, but integrated graphics are powered via your CPU so apps that need a lot of graphical power will shoot your CPU to 100%.
      For example, I used to use crypto mining apps on laptops and some shot the CPU to 100%, so were not able to utilise the GPU fully. In those instances, I used to disable integrated graphics so I could use the dedicated GPU to do everything.
