      And guess what comes at 10? Emily Dickinson's birthday day which is on Dec 10 ..and the album released on Dec 11.
      Ivy is said to be inspired by the secret love affair between Emily & her childhood bestfriend Sue Gilbert who was later betrothed & married to Emily's brother.

  • @Erminence
    @Erminence 5 дней назад +106

    Ivy is my favourite song of hers ever. It sounds so pretty but then every single line is SO deliberate. One thing about Ivy is "promised to another" makes me feel like its the olden days and she was sold off to someone else. Then you research the Ivy plant and learn about how difficult it is to get out once it's there. AND "hes going ti burn this house to the ground" but the house is made of STONE and filled with IVY. Two things that dont burn. Thats the tip of the iceberg i love this song so much.
    Like cheating is not good but it's literally not my fault that her songs about cheating are such bangers.

      @@jaywalkinlife please say your joking because Tolerate It is the most clearly written song about Joe ever. It’s very clear that’s how she was feeling and the parallel between the man she’s singing about and Joe are quite clear.
      Tolerate It gets real damning when you start to listen to Midnights and understand how their relationship dynamic worked. I’ve said this a million times, but the pandemic is the reason they stayed together for so long. Defending Joe just isn’t something us fans should be doing when it’s clear that he wasted 6 years of their lives for a relationship he didn’t want to be in. Taylor sounded miserable while dating him, he kept her closed off and made it so she shrunk her group of friends.
      I don’t know where this Joe narrative came from that he’s such a sweet and kind soul when in actuality he was neglectful and controlling.

    Cowboy Like Me, a song on Taylor Swift's Evermore album, is a song about two con artists or swindlers that established to tricking others with love. But when the two cross paths, they intended to use their same tacktick to each other. In the end, they found out it wasn't really a trick at all.

    "'tis the damn season" is about someone who is already making a name in like the celebrity industry, hence the LA reference. The song is about going back to your hometown and meeting like an old flame and both of you discover that love again but also aware that it won't be same. The male perspective of the song is "dorothea" and tells the story from his side. Watching someone you care achieve her dreams, even if it means you being left behind. Then you reminisced the time you shared together, and now she's back in her hometown and you see each other again (even if it's only for the weekend😭). Ahhhh!!! It's so wholesome at the same time so sadd. It's like every coming of age movie I've ever watched 😭. Ivy is inspired by the poet Emily Dickinson, a distant relative of Taylor herself. Emily has a love affair with Sue Gilbert, who is married to Emily's brother. There is a lot of documentation between Emily and Sue, letters that confirm the great love they had for each other, but it was forbidden. That is why this song is so beautiful and poetic, it is inspired by one of the greatest poets who ever lived.
    The Apple Dickinson series used Ivy in a beautiful intimate scene between Emily and Sue, being approved by Taylor I think it was a confirmation on her part.

    “Gold rush” actually refers to the actual gold rush during the 19th century when there was a rapid influx of seekers for gold deposits in the US. She wrote this as an analogy to the guy she likes who was desired by many, and how she doesn’t like the feeling of having to compete with others. Just like in the actual gold rush.

    tis the damn season in my mind is a play on "tis the season" like for christmas, the song is talking about maybe an old hometown boyfriend or someone you would hook up with when you go home for the holidays!
    also the Gold Rush was when EVERYONE traveled west in the US to get gold from california, because she always refers to him as "gold" it's actually so clever to say everyone is flocking to him as if it's the "Gold Rush"

    I’ve been a swiftie for 16 years and evermore is my favorite Taylor album. I needed it a lot after I lost both my grandmothers on the same day two years apart (2018 & 2020). It took me probably round 20ish listens of Marjorie to stop crying. This album is so special, it’s encapsulated a very specifically dark, but hopeful time in my life. There’s only 4 songs off the entire album I don’t usually listen to and everything else I absolutely love.
    I can’t wait for more Taylor albums and I’ll be subscribing to the Patreon very soon! I love watching NeeCee’s journey with Taylor’s music! Keep it up icon!

    "cowboy like me" is very intriguing. It's about two con artists who hook up with rich old folks (sugar daddies and mommies, lol) solely with the intention of exploiting their wealth. They meet at a marquee-a large tent for outdoor events such as weddings and parties, which the narrator describes as a "tent-like thing" to reflect their guise of an upper-class attendee at the social event. They serendipitously fall in love with one another, although the narrator doubts the sincerity of their partner's love, which Taylor references with the disputable Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
    The closing line, "I'm never gonna love again," is ambiguous and is generally interpreted in two ways: either they forsake their notorious frauds and commit to their relationship, or the narrator, despite being aware of their partner's congenial yet deceitful nature, is ultimately deceived or abandoned (I believe it's the former though). This is one of my favorite songs of hers; I think she pretty much nailed everything with this one: lyrics, melody, vocals, production.
    P.S. Marcus Mumford sings background vocals in this song! 🤠

    I think Speak Now is a rly good album to react to next once ur ready. It was the first album she made that she wrote entirely by herself. At the time, a lot of her hate was geared towards the belief she could not write her own songs by herself (which is stupid cuz most songs from artists have co-writers), she couldn’t sing etc. so she decided to prove the hate wrong and completely did it by herself. Plus the album is just SUPER good lol

    So on happiness, the thing you mentioned about "7 years in heaven". Taylor said that evermore is about "endings". I do think that she was able to explore aspects of the breakdown of her relationship with JA under the guise of storytelling -- I think lots of this album is exploring sorts of "alternate endings" to a relationship, both happy and sad, something I think she must've been thinking about a lot around this time. It's a little controversial to talk about cos everyone disagrees, but the thing is nobody knows for sure. I for one think this album is such a beautiful reflective piece, and my absolute favourite album of hers.

      At the time, bc there was so much speculation about this song, she stated it was about her hometown bestie Abigail's divorce. Taylor deflects at times what a song is really about (Tolerate It I am looking at you) but I think this might be true. She was in Abigail's wedding and she could have been writing from Abigail's perspective.

    What is interesting about “Tolerate It” is that it was already a repeated cycle. She had already been second-guessing about this relationship, thinking of leaving but in the end she still end up giving this man a chance “I sit and watch you” in the end of the song and in the eras tour where she sat back. Ironically, tolerating the man’s half-ass treatment to her. It adds another layer of sadness on that song

  • @emmavink

    I think on Closure, she isn't saying that she doesn't need closure in general. She says she doesn't need HIS closure. She doesn't need to agree with his take on events or the version of the story that makes him look like the good guy.
    None of this sounds like a romantic relationship to me. It sounds like Scott Borchetta who wanted to play the "hero flying around saving face".
    She seems done here just giving people what they woukd take from her, whether she has consented to it or not.

  • @samanthas9300
    @samanthas9300 4 дня назад +3

    I'm convinced you're the best music reactor on RUclips, seriously. As a diehard Swiftie of over a decade, you pick up on things SO WELL on first listen, sometimes literally better than I even do having all the context of her past albums and relationships, lol.
    Thank you for making these videos, they're so fun to watch!
    I think **Speak Now (Taylor's Version)** would be a great next listen for you. It's her third album, originally released in 2010 and the rerecorded version was released in 2023. It's her only album that is entirely solo-written (meaning she wrote every word on the album with no help from cowriters) and is kind of the transition album between her early "fairytale/girl-next-door" image and her more mature approach to relationships. It has some storytelling-based songs (Speak Now, Never Grow Up, Timeless) as well as some of her most gut-wrenching lyrics ever (Dear John, which is my favorite in her entire discography, Last Kiss) and I really think you'll love the variety! (Hint: Dear John is the precursor to Would've, Could've, Should've on Midnights; they're about the same relationship with her different perspectives over the years.)
    I also think Speak Now will give some good context for you BEFORE you go into her 4th album, Red (Taylor's Version). Red is a fan favorite so I see that everyone's requesting that next, but trust me - you will appreciate the pain and heartbreak of Red way more once you've heard a little more of her romantic history leading up to that point.

    • @samanthas9300
      @samanthas9300 4 дня назад

      To expand, I think a great order (assuming you're continuing this series... please do!) would be:
      Speak Now (3rd album) -> Red (4th album) -> 1989 (5th album) -> reputation (6th album) -> Lover (7th album)
      And then come the newer ones that you've already heard! I really feel like listening to them in release order would help you understand the trajectory of her career and romantic life much better than just jumping from one to another - Ex. The breakup detailed in Red hits even harder having the context of how her Speak Now relationship messed with her head. The albums' themes are somewhat interwoven with each other as she gradually transitioned from country to pop.
      Of course, that still leaves her first 2 albums, but tbh they are much more country and a little more teenager-y/high school centric. Absolutely worth a listen, but you may not click with them as instantly as you have with her newer stuff.

    It's so interesting revisiting this album after TTPD. I did not realize how many songs from this time were about Joe. I think Ivy is mentioning Matty too. I also believe that much more of her songs from Folklore were based on her life but she wasn't ready to disclose all of that yet so telling us that many were fictional prevented us from connecting the dots.

    loove ‘tis the damn season! It basically refers to old flames, where the girl had to leave their small town thus ending the relationship. However, whenever she visits for the holidays (thats why it was titled ‘tis the damn season), she would always have encounters (maybe even a more physical one) with this old flame where she is left to wonder if she chose the right thing leaving their town, and him.

    My interpretation of the song evermore is that it's not about a breakup. It's about when Taylor was sad and lonely and hopeless (likely when she was cancelled bc she said "Motion capture put me in a bad light"). But through meeting a special person, she finds hope again (She sings "You were there" to end the tumultuous bridge and to enter into peace).

    Not sure if anyone has mentioned it here, but the little piano riff at the end of champagne problems sounds like the main instrumental of Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus. I’ve been listening mainly to the top half of TTPD so I’m unsure if there’s some sort of connection, or if CoSoSoM is *possibly* the reason why the events of champagne problems happened.
    EDIT: fun fact!! closure is a song that shifts back and forth from 4/4 to 5/4 time signature, so if it sounds a bit dissonant and messed up, that’s probs the reason, but it makes so much sense since closures aren’t always supposed to be clean and peaceful.

  • @rmzv7

    I think Joe and her had a pretty rocky relationship-i think they played on & off quite a bit/ neither of them was willing to completely give it all up all at once which is why as the albums progress, a lot of the perspective changes.
    I think she deliberately made an effort a lot of times to disguise the fact that some of the songs were about him or at least about their relationship.

    • @ariadnacamilo1871
      @ariadnacamilo1871 4 дня назад +2

      Totally agree. The fact that no one ever saw them and how she marketed Folklore to be fictional stories made it possible to keep a lot of what was going on behind the scenes hidden. Which good for the for protecting the relationship from fan and media scrutiny while they could. Now after TTPD and Midnights it’s easier to look back and see that the fictional stories were laced with very real emotions.

    Anyways hell yeah this was so fun.
    I think what you listen to next depends on what you're in the mood for.
    Debut / Fearless are country.
    Speak Now is country/pop and Red is """country""/pop. Red is also a very long album that tells the story of 1 relationship.
    1989 is full "upbeat" pop. Read the tracklist, I guarantee you'll know a handful.
    Reputation might be a good bet, the Taylors version isnt out and may not be out for months so it'll be interesting for you to listen to it now and be able to hear the changes in the TV when it comes out. It's heavily EDM /electropop.
    Lover is her very in love pop.
