Marjorie makes me emotional every damn time I hear it. Makes me think about my grandmother as well. Specially the part where Taylor added her actual grandmother singing, whew gets me
Tis the damn season is one of my all time favorite taylor songs. I see it as a song about two people who are both hurting in different ways and kept apart by circumstances coming back together briefly to find comfort in eachother. It's something they both always wonder about. The road always come back to him. She wishes he would wait but she won't ask. He wishes she'd stay but he won't ask.
It's the sister song of Dorothea. The Hollywood star who went back to her hometown for the holidays and falls back to bed with her highschool sweetheart. My favorite is when she says "I wont ask you to wait if you don't ask me to stay".
@@jenigoedken3144 personally don't see it. Like it could be some kind of metaphor but the only part that actually fits is the "road not taken" line. Nothing else does. I will choose not to reach to interpret it that way because I prefer it as is.
Gold Rush is about having a crush and imagining scenarios with them but she doesn’t like having a crush on someone everyone wants and it all just fades into the grey of her day old tea because she’s been daydreaming about it for too long that her tea is a day old meaning she snaps back into reality after daydreaming about her crush for too long of a time. Very painful going through this right now who knew crushing hurts more than heartbreak
SAME. I'm just now listening to their reaction of this, have listened to Coney Island SO MUCH because it's one of my favorites from evermore... never once had a thought that the other half died. But it also totally makes sense with how he explained it too. I've always taken it as the "we used to be so close, but then we drifted and I don't know how we got here" but the idea that the other half died is just so insane and I'm gonna have to process this as a new interpretation because it may be my new favorite.
Wait I thought it was abt her and Selena Gomez friendship. Didn’t she name it Dorothea because Selena’s favorite movie is wizard of oz? I can see it as that perspective too though
@@luciatorres4382 I take it as both! written for Selena and about their friendship but also fits into that story! It's music, you can interpret it as anything
I think of this the damn season from a college perspective… had something, not serious enough to change plans, but still real good.. come home Christmas and summer break, wishing to pick back up because only sweet memories, nothing bad came between us, just different paths/plans, will it turn into something bigger or just fade away…no hard feelings if either of us move on to something else, just think omg he was such a sweet, warm, fun guy…hope you found love Eddie🥰
I AM BEGGING you to all read the backstory of Marjorie. I cry every time. Give it some love. It's *not* about Gilmore Girls. That was a rumor started on twitter, and the person who said it retracted it.
@@shelbycarne No, it's not. That was truly just made up online. It took off in a frenzy the moment it hit, but the person who started it admitted that it was just made up.
rewatching... omg i love you both so much. And PAPER RINGS... I could be wrong but that wasn't an OFFER. That's her saying 'i just want you to want me to be yours so badly i WOULDN'T CARE if they were paper rings, let's do this'.
Something great taylor does is give a phrase a new or secondary meaning. So champagne problems is I think a way of playing on the existing meaning but adding the layer of issues around things that should be a celebration (like the wasted champagne the sister brought).
As far as her lyrics that “seem” to be autobiographical, yet don’t really, it could be an amalgam of fiction and a mix of the emotional elements of her life. That’s why it feels like it’s a real Taylor story. We need to give her cred for being a real artist capable of writing about unknown characters with universal themes and emotions. Thank you T for growing and spreading your artistic wings!
I've been waiting to listen to this for days so I could listen uninterrupted 😂 you 2 are at the fkn top of my favorite Taylor reaction channels. You genuinely jump in and feel it but also yall are just absolutely fkn hysterical for real ❤😂😂💯🙌 I knew Taylor was the truth from day one 👏 born in arguably one of the dopest years in recent times with Ms. Swift, Ive got to enjoy growing and going through shit with her 💯🙌
Randomly revisiting this album and just came across your page guys. Your analysis on this is so on point new sub for sure want to see more of things yall react to
Yeah, I definitely view Dorothea/Tis the Damn Season as two sides of the same story, where Dorothea comes first chronologically. Like they dated in school, but then she left town to pursue her dreams. So Dorothea is him watching her become a star and the sentiment that if she ever wanted to give up the fame and come home, he'd be there for her. And then Tis the Damn Season is her reconnecting with him when she does actually come back into town, and part of her wishes she could stay and choose him. But in the end, they both know that she's going to go back to her life (and he'll stay in his), so it's really just an escape to what might've been.
A thought on Gold Rush: Remember in her formative dating years, she was the target of loads of hate & slut shaming in large part because the boy band girlies didn't think she was worthy of their beloved Joe Jonas & especially Harry Styles. She's been burned by the gold rush effect multiple times and she's always been really insecure- like she's the only person who forgets she's Taylor Swift, glorious pop goddess.
She's admittedly a goofy theater dork and insecure poetry nerd, but she's also a bad ass boss, naturally beautiful, and sexy as hell. She just forgets she's shiny af when she gets love struck.
As far as we know, YB never proposed at all. However, Taylor wrote a song on Lover, saying she would marry him even with a paper ring, because she loved him so much. Champagne Problems was supposedly written as a collaboration of storytelling by Taylor and YB, the prospective groom, the crazy girlfriend he met in college, who turned down his marriage proposal, and their whole story, are fictional.
lowkey think that it's time to go isn't that complicated. It's just explaining different situations in which people are repeatedly hurt and she's giving people reassurance to trust themselves and have the strength to leave for the sake of their own happiness and mental health. Like how she knew it was time to leave Big Machine Records when they had her effed up...
how did I miss this so glad I found it now!!! looking back at this album is crazy after listening to TTPD!!! Also you HAVE to listen to Cowboy Like Me, its easily top five maybe three on this album. one of the greatest written songs of hers for sure!!!
Actually so valid to think Coney Island is about death though! “Everybody’s so creative” 😂 I’m dead. But fr that’s a good analysis without knowing any background!
Watch and listen to song called "RONAN" Song about a little boy who died taylor does a song with the lil boys mom! G.o.t games "ronan" So sad and beautiful. The guys reaction is WOW ❤❤❤❤ taylor n the boys mom made the song together the video is amazing!
Between "Back to December"... the college/November/Christmas reference in "Champagne Problems"... and then "Midnight Rain"... I actually think those are all about Taylor Lautner. There was rumor back then that he had proposed to her and she said no cuz she was still early in her career and wanted to pursue that more before settling down.
