with the internet deciding to discredit and pick apart everything and anything to do with taylor recently, these guys' reactions have become an absolute favorite of mine. her craft should always be the focus when talking about her and it's nice that y'all never strayed away from that.
That’s kinda general bitchiness. Not the entire internet because there are people who have never heard of Taylor. Yes, they exist. You can’t be taken seriously when you write like an angry child.
The meaning behind "my tears ricochet" is about Scott Borchetta, the head of her record label for her first 6 albums. They were very close professionally and personally and she was the main reason for the success of his record company. He use to be a father-like person in her life shown in the lyric "'Cause when I'd fight, you used to tell me I was brave". His major betrayal was selling her albums without her knowledge and that's why she says "And when you can't sleep at night (you hear my stolen lullabies)" - stolen lullabies being all the songs from her first 6 albums that were sold. And also the lyric "And I can go anywhere I want, just not home" - home being the record company she grew her career in and also her own albums. She had everything she knew taken from her with that business deal.
Nicely put, but just to clear things up: Taylor knew that Scott was gonna sell the record label (and her albums with it), but she never in a million years thought that he’d sell it to Scooter Braun, which at the time she already had major issues with. She felt betrayed on a personal level cause Scott knew what Scooter had done to her, but chose money over loyalty
Yes! And all the lines about cursing my name, wishing I'd stayed and the line if i'm dead to you, why are you at the wake are about how Scott would tell her one thing, then tell the media something completely different and trash her or throw her under the bus.
Yes. Every time I listen to it I can’t believe that we are living in a time where we can listen to this masterpiece. And the lyrics always hit like the first time.
@@submarinosI've actually realized most English-speaking reactors had problems with the 'latin based' words on this album, such as clandestine and illicit. At first I was like "why does nobody know these words, they're not that weird" and then I came to the conclusion they actually don't use latin based words that much 😂 a point for us Spanish speakers that didn't have to look them up😅
you HAVE to listen to the FOLKLORE: the long pond studio sessions!! they’re criminally good ugh. we were ROBBED of the evermore long pond sessions fr😢😭
It’s actually really cool to see a second listen and hear how some songs connected with you and why. There are many songs I don’t quite connect with at first but after living life I revisit and feel differently.
Epiphany is one you guys should listen to and reflect on the fact that this whole album was written during the peak of the pandemic. She’s referencing the experiences of her grandfather’s wartime military service and making a parallel to all the medical staff that were battling the pandemic in overwhelming situations in hospitals. Both circumstances were extremely difficult and those living through it were often speechless about their experiences, but she’s giving how they felt recognition and saying she stands in solidarity with them.
Seven is heartbreaking now thinking she’s talking about her friend coming to live with her so she doesn’t have to hide in the closet from her angry dad and cry.
Peace is about Taylor dating a "normal" guy. He had done 1 small independent film when they started dating. She could never give him Peace because Taylor comes with paps, gossip mags, gossip sites, being followed, stalkers etc. She has 2-3 security guards 24 hours a day. The only time she doesn't have them with her is when she is inside her house. They are in cars outside of her house then. If she goes to her boyfriends house security is in cars outside their house. Restaurants, everywhere. That is a whole lot of crap to deal with! There is nothing she can do about it, though. Therefore, she can never give him Peace. She is asking am I worth all this that comes with me.
My tears ricochet is even more powerful when you understand WHY she wrote it. It´s about the whole selling S.B her art without her permission that happened in 2019. That´s why she sings: "You were the same jewels that I gave you as you bury me" Epiphany is about the entire medical staff in the face of the pandemic.
Epiphany: the 2nd half, yes. The 1st part is about her grandfather serving in the Military (on the beaches of Normandy I believe.) Overall, it's about those who "serve" during tragic events & the resulting trauma that sadly often follows.
Just a fun fact- Taylor’s old label told her for every new album she turned in, they would give her an old one back. In 10 years, she released 5 albums with them. In the past 5 years, she’s released 5 albums plus the re-records. She said I’m going to drop like crazy, save my sanity, and make your purchase of my music worthless. Battleships- masters. They’ll sink bc they didn’t do the right thing and Taylor needs to do right by herself and re-record.
in MTR the line "you hear my stolen lullabies" is about scooter constantly hearing her songs because they are played everywhere even though she has left the record label.
As much as I am obsessed with TPD, Folklore will always be my favorite work of all time from TS. This Dropped as I was recovering from severe Covid. I listened to this album hundreds of times quarantined in my bedroom after with long covid testing postive🎉 for over two months. I had developed Guillian Barre as well as a result of neurological damage from covid and my recovery had been halted in its tracks as one day my body slowly went numb from the top of my head to my toes. By the time I got to the hospital I was unable to swallow or sign the form or stand. No one was allowed in the hospital with me. It was the most terrifying experience of my life and Im so lucky that it only lasted about two days before I regained feeling in my body. Others suffered from GB for months as a result of covid. In the middle of what I was later told was a full blown nervous breakdown I listened to this album over and over and over again. It saved my sanity at a minimum, maybe more. I think Folklore and Evermore helped a lot more people than me during such a scary time in life and Im so grateful to have had it.
To me, Mirrorball is her music and how we listen to it with our own experiences in mind and she essentially is the mirror ball showing us all the versions of ourself. Love your reactions!! 🫶
you guys should react to the long pond studio sessions!! it was what made me fall in love with her music and now folklore is my favorite album ever, she goes through every song playing a stripped down version of them and explaining their meaning as well as the writing process for each one, it’s really special, I think you’d love ittt
Epiphany is about two things - it's a memorial to her grandfather, who served at Guadalcanal AND healthcare workers who served during COVID. Notice the first part is about landing on the beach; the 2nd part is re: COVID (holding hands through plastic). This is one of the only songs I've heard written by her where she writes about two distinct subjects. She has a conversation with Aaron Dessner about it in Long Pond Sessions. It's very much a dirge, which is a lament for the dead. So brilliant.
I love that you guys revisited this one! The fact that you guys actually listen for the production value, lyrics, and overall vibe is really cool. Also loved the invisible sting dance!
Mirrorball is about how during covid she felt like she lost purpose kinda bc before everyone was there looking at her celebrating her and physically present but during covid she still wanted to keep the fans attention and kinda the realization that even when nobody is watching she still acts as if the whole world is watching and she has to preform all the time no matter what
She wrote this is me trying in the aspect of mental health and addiction. It has hit me so hard lately. If you’re dealing with your mental health, you’re not alone. Sometimes trying is your best and that’s okay!
The conversations on clandestine and “Betty” really served all my needs for today, thanks guys. I’ve always been an Evermore-over-Folklore gal but I really get it, I do understand how good it is. Nice to spend more time with it.
This is what I listen to when I have, the album, when I have I bad day. It is so smooth and calm. Individual songs on play list always, but the whole of it saves me on the truly horrid word days.
I always watched your taylor swift reactions on youtube since your first reaction on the youtube channel and never commented on any of them. This is the first time that i leave a comment and I just wanted to say that i enjoy your reactions and i hope you will never stop
Take into account how this album was made.... and it truly is fascinating. During Covid remotely, Taylor recording her vocals in a makeshift vocal booth in her bedroom. Like, what?! AMAZING!
Loved your revisit. I hadn’t listened to it in a while. Loved to see Darrien found appreciation for Seven! I agree with Ashton, Cardigan is one of my all-time favorites from Taylor.

❤ love these 2❤
Oh, has the pendulum swung back to hating Taylor again?

Folklore will never fail to amaze me
Same it’s my fave album
This album always feels like listening to it for the first time but every time. It's very nostalgic.
Yes. Every time I listen to it I can’t believe that we are living in a time where we can listen to this masterpiece. And the lyrics always hit like the first time.
the reaction to mirrorball of “being alone on a dance floor with a disco ball” is literally what taylor said it was so that was so accurate
ashton is such a folklore stan, we love to see it
James: summer thing
August: summer love
I will never ever move on from this!!!
"ever since then a love was birthed for a song that would never go away" has me quite literally crying
I feel like they would love the long pond session just watching it all and taking it in after this.
Their reactions are just so 🥹
They did it for Patereon!
“Is this fucking play about us?” 😂😂😂
not the beef with the word clandestine 😂😂
This part had me cackling 🤣
It lives here, it dies here 😂
It's such a "spanish" word. It wrotes with just one different letter and Shakira has a song under the same name.
@@jorgeescudero5034 i know!!! in spanish we use it a lot but i guess in english is more of a poetic type of thing, idk haha
@@submarinosI've actually realized most English-speaking reactors had problems with the 'latin based' words on this album, such as clandestine and illicit. A RE-LISTEN we all needed!! First time is never enough. Waiting for a re-listen TTPD

My dad died of covid in December 2020. Epiphany DESTROYS me. It's so sad but so beautiful.
"It lives here , it dies here" - Sir , that's a bar .
Seven is heartbreaking now thinking she’s talking about her friend coming to live with her so she doesn’t have to hide in the closet from her angry dad and cry.
"Once you feel that invisible string, you let go." That fellas is a bar; I'm stealing that Darriel .
The commentary on Betty is top tier. I can't stop laughing lol
Someone take his pen away 😭
😂😂
😭😭😭
Such a magical journey. 2020 gave us the low of the pandemic and the high of the gift of Folklore (and Evermore)

It’s like a rare re-listen for me too. I listen to the long pond session so much I forget what the other production versions sound like!
Ashton's love for Cardigan makes me so happy, because SAME.
