I am so glad to hear Andy support the idea of universal service. I have been a proponent since I was in high school and I”m now 72. Whenever I bring it up people look at me like I’m crazy. Everyone can contribute something. I think it would change our culture tremendously.

Ah, another half-baked idealistic plan to empower the goverment to infringe on peoples' freedoms. I grew in a country in the 80's with compulsory military service and very vocal feminists, Mrs. Montgomery. Never heard a single one of them demand for women to be drafted. I wonder why.

Universal Service is a wildly underrated idea. 2yrs of service (of any kind) 6 months of that must be outside of the country would do wonders for our citizens.

He is so right, I did 8 years US Army, followed by 24 years on the Police Department. In the Army, I got my first Sergeant's stripe, an AJ stripe for what it was worth when the dude in charge of my section sent me to sweep water off the deck behind out little commo bunker in the Motor Pool, runoff from the wash racks while the rest of the section was loading gear for our field problem. He, of course stayed back because of a back ache that kept him from the field. When we set up the wire section ran all the field wire, while I was detailed to set up the switchboard. The Sergeant had neglected to pack the battery pack for that small switchboard and, of course it needed that to run. The signal officer called me in to answer why the pack was not there, since I had seniority of the section and the Sgt was back drinking beer on the base. I explained that I had been sweeping water when the gear was loaded, but I knew how to work the board without the pack, something I had learned while in Vietnam a year before. I sat the board up taking power from a TA312 field phone to run the board. When we returned to the base, the orders were cut to add a stripe to my sleeve ( I got the real one a few months later) and I was in charge of the section. That sergeant with the back ache - He was put in charge of the Day Room, it was his job to insure it was kept clean, and the attached latrine was also under his jurisdiction. He separated when his time came as he was informed he would not be put up for promotion because of his actions. I worked a PD that bordered the reservation in North Dakota. WE knew that we had no authority, the Sheriff, who had been sheriff since the big bang also had great respect for the. tribe and could only go onto the reservation to arrest a white person, and that with an accompanying tribal police. Of course in North Dakota the boundries of the reservation are quite well known even if some of that land is deeded to white folk,

It is a real skill to be able to present questions and discuss hypothetical scenarios without falling into the trap of giving answers to things that exceed your legal understanding. Takes a lot of humility.
My only criticism of the guest. He ended by saying there are just as many bad cops as good cops. That’s so completely false. It’s a very small percent of bad cops out there. This situation is the exception not the norm. He was way off in regard to that one comment.

I wish to say one thing for quest: when you are gonna go through the case and you will pass it ..then step back...look at your whole life, your skills, your gifts from nature, your priorities and let speak then your soul too. Because no matter of what after some healing you need to go back to your mission and it s not just about some job. It s about evoking of the best what you can create it here or be part of it. You are a little bit wrong on the Californians moving to Montana issues. You are correct on some of them. Many other don't correlate the economic, social, and moral decline of their state.....with the politics responsible for it. They see the opportunities here (and Texas and other conservative states) and move there....then vote the exact same way they did in California.
