That is the best military service comment I have ever heard Andy thank you. I get very tired of hearing other veterans demonize or belittle someone else’s service.
Thank you Andy, because of your podcast I have come to terms with my comparing my service time to others. Wanted a war and never got one. That said, I now see my mission differently thanks to you. Someone had to stand here so others could go forward. In the end it was probably what I was best at. I also find it interesting how you suggest to not bring up one's service time. It has always been something I have been proud of, even if I never went to war. It changed the way I viewed the world. It should be interesting to experiment with the idea of not bringing it up. Who am I without saying it, and do I need to. Thank you for another new perspective.
Man your words about comparrison will rob your joy, is perfect timing. I struggle with this all the time. I wish I would have done more and compare myself to other veterans a ll the time. Really needed that insight.
Andy thank you, Im getting out due to injury before accomplishing things I wanted to accomplish. Its hard not to feel like a failure but your comment really opened my eyes to stop comparing.
Every mos in all branches are important or there would be no mos for that job. As a veteran thanks to all who served! It takes on average of 10 support personnel to support 1 combat troop. I was a firefighter in the AF and my mission was to protect our folks who protect the whole country.
That speech about comparing service is so true. I have a friend who spent many years not being deployed to combat, and he was insecure about it. We gave him shit, of course, but he had no control over it. If he did, he would have obviously been the first to volunteer. It's timing. This applies to the walz situation. The part that gets me is he has nothing to be ashamed of as far as the service he performed, but he chooses to lie about serving in combat. He is diminishing tons of vets who didn't serve in combat, and keeps this idea of comparison alive. This is the result of stolen valor.
I was a cop in a city of just over half a million people for 27 years. I carried 24/7 by policy. Now that I am retired, I still carry an effective defensive handgun 24/7 by choice. I'm under no illusion that the world is made of cotton candy and lollipops, it's still full of broken glass and rusty nails and I MAY have to act again in the defense of myself or others. I sincerely hope I never have to ...but if I am, I want to be able to do it. I never made "I'm a cop" a topic of discussion with dating partners. The "badge bunnies" were ones I avoided. It was just my job ..it wasn't my identity. Be safe.
I don't understand your choice and use of the qualifiers "effective" and "defensive" when describing your EDC. Regarding defensive: A weapon is a weapon is a weapon. Of course, using it to defend yourself is the point, but that's an action of decision, not a function of the weapon. Regarding effective: Well, you better hope it was effective when you purchased it and when God forbid it comes time you may have to use it. Range time reminds you it still goes "BOOM!" and is hence effective. Strange choice/use of words there, my fellow Patriot. None of this is meant to be rude or provocative. Thank you for your service.
I prepared my son, now 21, for concealed carry, for many years. He is very safe with weapons (tear down, cleaning, use). I exposed him for years to Law Of Self Defense (Andrew Branca) so that he understands the use of force law across the nation and in particular the state we live in. I also taught him gun law in various states so that he understands 2A constitutional rights (Four Boxes Diner - Mark Smith). We talk about various scenarios so that we have mentally practiced options if they arise. My suggestion for others is to start early with your kids. He just started carrying concealed and has permits in two states which are honored in most states. Starting early is critical as it counters the notions presented in the media and hollywood as to what is real and legal.
Great episode today. I especially loved the information you gave on service comparison, I say the same when other veterans talk about service. Also I am a forearms instructor, spot on with the force on force stress inoculation. Love it ,keep up the great work.
Loved all of this. In reference to the last topic, coming from someone who was a LEO for almost eight years, do NOT talk to the police after any kind of defensive encounter, regardless if a shot was fired or not, and regardless of how justified you believe you are. Lawyer up, immediately. I have an Attorneys On Retainer membership. Some people have other companies they use and some just have the money and pay for their own attorney. Regardless, if his son is ever in a shooting or even brandishes his firearm to deter a threat, he needs to be on the phone with an attorney. And if nobody was hurt or killed, I would argue that calling the attorney (or the emergency line for AOR members) before even calling 911 is the preferred option.
Hi, my name is Yaron And I am a 50-year-old man from Israel. Like most Israelis, I served in the army and in the reserves and was discharged as an officer with the rank of major. Today I volunteer at the border guard and go on patrols in my area once or twice a week. Since my military service I have a gun license and I own one Glock 17 generation. Admittedly until October 7, 2023 the gun spent most of the time in the safe and only came out for license renewal or reserve service. Since October 7, I almost always have a gun on me Even for a walk in the neighborhood with the dog. And I live in central Israel not close to the border. You commented on today's broadcast that a gun should have a flashlight. I agree with you about luminous sights or optical sights less about the flashlight. As citizens in the State of Israel we carry a gun mainly to deal with terrorists. If a terrorist arrives at a shopping center and starts shooting or stabbing civilians The response is fast and the whole event should take place in seconds תנאים
I've served 2 years military service with the Singapore Armed Forces (1st Battalion Singapore Guards 1988-1990) but I've never talked to people in Canada or in the UK (when I was studying overseas) about what I've gone through in the military simply because the stories are unrelatable to them and I absolutely hate filling up backgrounds details.
On the answer to the first question... I sometimes catch myself feeling ashamed for not having joined my country's army despite the fact that I'm automatically screened out due to two medical diagnoses I received during my childhood. They literally won't take me. I wish I could've done it. Maybe in another life haha. But it's probably the dumbest thing to be ashamed of.
Really enjoyed this FAF and the shared wisdom…Regarding the conceal carry topic - getting CC insurance is something to consider as well. Just another layer of preparedness in the unlikely event of having to defend your life with lethal force.
What would Andy’s and mike’s ideal self defense melee weapon such as swords, axes, polearms and such just wanted to leave a lighthearted question to lighten the mood hopefully
To question number 2, there are things of online programs free it cheaper to help augment the investment in home gym equipment or going to the department gym and a easy to save money..
2:20 - i absolutely despise the bro culture. But, you're right about that. Without the previous soldiers from peace time, we'd have no experience or training for war. Either way you're supposed to take military service seriously. It's just a shame that most didn't until the war of terror started in 2001.
Him saying he’s more likely to live through a “fixed wing” accident is an idea that rolls around my head as well lol I’m drawn to helicopters….i love the maneuverability in that you can hop around a region with ease. But they are just more dangerous. Odds are slim but they are But me and Andy probably have a different reaction to that danger as he jumps out of planes
I feel like I would be more likely to survive fixed wing because I have much more time flying them than rotary wing. I don’t think helicopters are more dangerous, I just don’t have as much experience in them yet, hence the comment.
That’s a great word for us all. Comparing is the thief of all joy. Jesus gives joy and takes away anxieties. We are human, we are going to compare naturally. Don’t let it take over. Fight against the natural self. Hope everyone enJOYs their weekend and is grateful for what we have and don’t have. Cheers
The ones that are truly badass make statements like Andy. It's the dirtbags that are more likely to demonish someone's service. Not to be confused with interbranch rivalry (chair force, crayon eaters, etc.)
I don’t have guests on Fridays, so I use Ai for the image. It’s not an attempt to fool people, just better than grabbing some random image off the internet. Plus, I like messing around with the Ai.
If you want to be fulfilled through everything you do in life, Yeshua, Jesus Christ Is Our Only Hope Period, in this fallen world, Faith in God, Christ as your redeemer, Savior, and the Holy Spirit, in which moral Law is written on all of our hearts, it’s written permanently within each humans soul, and how we choose to go through life, taking each action each second, every minute of every hour of every day to follow Him, or exploit evil we all can do, but to suppress evil, follow God, is the narrow path….follow Jesus.
Dude why do you feel as if you need to leave comments like this? Ask youreself that..your coming to his youtube video to what teach him something? People like you are making this country divided so just stop
I think your getting two things very mixed up..being honest and saying never deployed and lying and using his service as a diplomatic tool to try and ban the so called military weapons of war...VP waltz words not mine are two different things..just my opinion
There is a difference between not deploying for factors outside of your control and not deploying due to cowardice for selfish reasons whilst he abandoned men which he bragged about leading to only then run off to chase a career in the most self serving field politics, too add insult to injury then lie about said deployment to forward his own political agenda.
"Best thing about getting shot is to not have to run anymore" just spit my dam coffee out everywhere lmfao😂😂😂

You can carry concealed in Montana at 18 years old!
Props to you working on your heli license. worked on them in the Army, miss them very much.
Thank you.

Good stuff Andy as always. Also, it's good to not always have something to do except hang out with the family! Happy Friday!

Great Q & A, Andy! Ever Vigilant!

Agreed. Forgot to mention that one
Awesome Q&A
"Best thing about getting shot is not being able to run anymore " .... died laughing
12:00 - so basically, "don't ask, don't tell."
Great show as always!
I'm guilty of not putting in the range time, dry fire, etc. 🤦♂️

Thanks for the great content yet again cleared hot team! Forces me to get my a** out the door every morning lol
We are all excited about your flip flop company Andy!

I can't help but naturally feel like I did less than someone who deployed. Not that I'm lesser but, they sacrificed more than me.
