      For Corpsmen and Medics this is the hardest pill to swallow. Sometimes you do everything right, you've got a patent airway, you've got the bleeding under control or stopped, you get the IV started (no problem), you've treated for shock you've called for a medevac and they still die. After that, a LOT of guys (Corpsmen/Medics) beat themselves up and wrack their brains thinking, "what didn't I do?". And after all the self reflection most times the answer is...."nothing......I did nothing wrong....I did everything right, and everything I could".

      my grandpa was a SEAL in Vietnam. He only told me one story when we were drunk. Him and 3 other people were being extracted by swcc so they had to jump in a river to get to the boat and my grandfather was suppose to be the first one on the boat, but he had to fix his rifle to his back so his bestfriend went up first and right when he stood up his head blew up from a sniper right in front of my grandfather.

    Rodger the Dodger is badass!!
    One of my friends in college ben, his grandfather is a Vietnam Medal of Honor Recipient - Navy Seal & Nebraska's 35th U.S Senator Bob Kerry, Gaduated (BUD'S) class 42 in December 1967 served with Rodger Hayden in Vietnam when I had the GREAT HONOR to meet Bob, he chatted & talked with me and his grandson for hours about vietnam and he talked alot about a guy named Rodger, he talked about him like he was some sort of a superhero! He said he was one of the best soilders he ever served with and knew, which is an extremely impressive thing to have said about you by a Vietnam Medal of Honor recipient!!!
    He also said I sure am glad he was on our side! Lol he said he use to call him Rodger the Dodger, because he was always dodging them bullets lol
    I'm so stupid that I didn't realize until halfway into this podcast when Rodger talked about serving with buds class 40,41 & parts of 42 & 43 is when I realized that this was the rodger that my friends grandfather had been talking about all those years ago when he sat and told us all those stories. Lol

    • @MFKR696
      @MFKR696 5 лет назад +15

      @@Memento--Mori Yeah.... Except for the fact that now you fight wars because you've spent the last 100 years pissing in everyone else's cornflakes and starting wars where there need not be any, and you guys are usually the ones to fire the first shots, which is not a virtuous action to say the least. The only enemies you guys have are the enemies that you manufactured yourself by pissing people off the world-over.
      To add... America hasn't won a war in literally over 60 years. You guys are great at starting wars these days, it seems, but you are really bad at winning them. As you said, you guys have been fighting wars since your inception. You'd think you guys would have learned how to actually win a war, given all the "practice" you've had at it. As a nation, America needs to tread real fucking soft at this point, or else they're gonna find themselves in a real shit-fight that they no longer possess the capability to win, and they will lose *badly*.
      I know not when, where or how the third World War will happen, but one thing I do know is that we (meaning members of NATO) will not come out on the winning side of it, if there even is a winning side at that point. Mutually-Assured-Destruction is still in the play-books at this point, keep in mind. In a true Peer-Force war, which America has not experienced since Korea, If things are going bad enough in "conventional operations" for one side or the other, with a war that big going on, it's almost inevitable that the "losing" side will go Nuclear. It's the logic of "if we go down, all of you go down too. All the way down."
      So I must say.... Stop poking the bear you fools! You will not come out on the winning side if this new Cold War goes hot.

    I just gotta say and start off with thank you to every service man and women who serve, served, or sacrificed everything and to their families aswell!
    Also Jocko, Echo, and all others on the podcast i thank you guys for helping me stay focused and keepimg me in the game at work cause its a shitty environment but i get a serious feeling of success knowing everyday is a glorious day because I'm free and able to keep trying to make myself better every single day, and for the laughs i get every now and then listening to these great podcast and the historical knowledge i learn aswell!!
    You guys are awesome and always will be my moral boosters and mentors to me to keep going and that discipline and success comes from my own heart and my own battles and soon i too will be right there where i want to be soon!!
    Unfortunately for me i have a medical disability that recruiter's turn me away Immediately, but i promise to keepup the fight here at home the best i can and i will never quit until the bitter end, thank you for the lessons and the moral boost!!

    This podcast is, part 1 and 2, my personal favorites so far! This man is so casual and funny telling the op stories that, it's obvious that this is his element along with his team. Vietnam was the war where alot of my friends had served and some returned and others not. They deserve the respect and thanks for their Warrior spirits and for doing what nobody else would do.

Former action guys (you know who you are), WWII vets, VIetnam Vets and our current generation of warriors all should have an opportunity to tell their story! Jocko & Echo are doing their part in capturing this history. We all owe them a debt of gratitude for doing so... BTF BTF BTF BTF BTF!

Really appreciate to hear Roger Hayden talk about what i might have ended up doing if I lived during those times in America. I I have made those maps and they’re hard to make pretty enough for someone to quickly comprehend. I bet you had some clearing up to do aswell. Can’t even imagine what it’s like to do that for 120 miles and we weren’t cuddled around with but that’s just insane not even counting being in hostile territory. Big respect man.
