Korn performing -Chi Rare footage from 1996 with David Silveria on drums!!!! and the rest of the band playing w/headphones... Thanks to www.kornmemorabilia.com
I agree with Everley after his wrist injury his drumming became very samey and predictable. first two album great but the rest like I say samey he never recovered from the wrist injury in my opinion between touting and recording issues. He had an almost tribal drumming style early on and he just lost it after life is peachy. Ray Luzier is a fantastic drummer in his own right too.
It wasn't David's fault, Brendan O' Brien made him simplify his drumming for Issues, which is an amazing album but who knows what it would've been if he kept it this way.
David played hip hop beats on a tight as fuck piccolo snare with huge bass drops. Nobody was doing anything like that at the time and that's what gave Korn their original sound. He's an amazing drummer. Ray may be more skilled but is light years Behind David in the creativity department
Still there's nobody which match David's style groove beats ..... He is a legit beast . Korn will never be the same without his grooves period . Admit it accept it .
Dave really had his own style. He's so lucky to have been able to play in a band like Korn that were so simplistic where he could just go in there, slap the grease on and pretty much do whatever he wanted. The rhythmic quality in Korn was distinctly Silveria.
Korn owes so much to David. David is and always will be a HUGE part of Korn. Wherever anybody agrees or not. Can you even imagine this song without those drums?
This guys style made this band what it was. Facts. Jonathan Davis, Fieldy and then the seven string guitars for sure were super original. But this dude is pure magic for this band. The backbone. Ray is incredible but can’t replace this dudes feel.
@@neildown7231 are you kidding me!!! I get it man dave was a beast but he made his choices and listen to him now! Nowhere near as good. What ray can do is incredible and korn are very lucky to have him, why do you think they gave him the job? If he auditioned for your band what would you say to him??
DAMN I MISS THIS SOUND! You can say the 7-string drop tuned guitars, or Fieldy's click slap bass sound was what made their sound. But David's pocket groove and that piccolo snare drum sound was the heart of Korn's sound. Bring that sound back, and their next album goes platinum.
David Silveria has always been one of my favorite drummers I love his powerful, energetic, and sort of sloppy sounding style . It's a perfect match for Korn, as well as Fieldy's signature low end bass guitar sound. He has been a HUGE influence on me as a drummer since I was a kid, and he always played TAMA drums and Paiste cymbals which are my favorite combination. I want to hear his signature snare someday and see how it sounds.

David Silveria is one of my favourite drummers. Being able to see the man himself play here in the video ... for free ... the internet can be wonderful !!!
David is undisputedly the most suitable drummer for KoRn. He has the groove and funk to make KoRn "KoRn". Some bullshit producer they had hired during issues pretty much castrated everyone's nuts so they could "Take it to the next level", resulting in the KoRn you have now. And David eventually got fed up and quit some 7 years later. I think Ray is a great drummer, but not a great drummer for KoRn. He completely fucked up the dynamics and the original groove to the old KoRn songs that david created. What a slap in the face. i can't imagine what went through David's head when he had first heard ray play live with the band.
You called it man, I've said something similar to this for years. Ray is a nice guy and a decent drummer, but David had a groove style and lots of "off-key" tempo changes that just gave KoRn a funky, unique sound. All of their stuff after Issues.... I can't really even listen to it, it's so homogenized and standard and the songs suck or sound the same. It's just disappointing. I do like " See you on the other side" (David's last album with Korn)
I always talk about how important it is to find your own voice as a musician and this man has his own voice on the drums. Just INSANE like my mind would have never came up with such an original drum part for that song.
Just as sic now as it was 25 yrs ago. The OG drummer of Korn. Dave , your a gangsta on the drums homie. How that kit didnt melt is a miracle , cause that was straight fire you played..... A good drummer is about how the technical can be expressed in a way that pushes the music forward. David had this, he gave life and groove to these songs.
Some say Ray is better, others think David is better. Here's my take...I think Ray is better in some aspects. He's a better technician, he's more precise, he's faster, he's better at blast beats, ect. The two things that make David a better drummer, and the most important things..Writing and Creativity. Ray is very straight forward and rather basic when writing songs. While David always has his own creative niche. There are several Korn songs that come to mind when you think of just the drums. The minute you hear the top of the ride cymbal tapping, you know it's time for Blind. On Beg For Me, David plays a very memorable almost marching sounding intro. In regards to Ray, I cant think of a single memorable song he's been a part of when it comes to his creativity. It all sounds very straight forward and plain. Ray is a very good touring drummer. But when it comes to writing albums, and the best for the Korn sound and style...David is your man.
Larry Baker totally right. david's drumming is so unique and such a significant part of korn's sound. There are so many intricate things that he does that make him a great musician.
+Larry Baker Ray's too "by the book" for my liking, of course he's more precise and technical and able to do things that are a bit more complex, but his drumming is to flashy and technical for Korn. But David had a more loose, beat the hell out of you style of play which made him a better fit for Korn, you give David a book on drumming, he'd probably laugh and throw it back at you. Allegedly David barely even knew how to read music, he would play his parts over and over and listen/play along to the recordings till he memorized them. If that doesn't say dedication, then I don't know what is.
David was told to dumb down his playing during the writing sessions of what would be titled "Issues" by the producers at the time. I think ever since then up until he quit the band, he wasn't able to repeat that funky groovy style that dominated the first 3 records. I think the only exception would be "TALITM" because he brought back a lot of that style for that record.
