@ArtOfDrumming Great video! I loved those early korn drums sounds! I have the samples but they sounds completely different from the groove in the pack + they are printed with ambience / reverb. Do I need to remove the reverb, eq / comp the samples?
If you need an amazing technical drummer that keeps everyone in time, all the time, you definitely need Ray. But for a Korn sound, David Silveria groovy paste is what you need. He is such an iconic nu metal drummer, nobody can replace him.
That Follow the Leader snare is THE snare sound of the 90s imo. It just sums up the whole decade, and it fits in so many musical contexts. It would easily be happy in a typical Pop track, as well as R&B, Hip-Hop, and---of course--modern styles of metal. It just has that X-factor. Very "live" sounding.
@@walpurgisnacht9234 The key words in what you said is "David's grooves". That said, i don't agree with you. Its like saying "john doe is a better you than yourself". Dosen't make sense.
@@clivegeorge9740 That would be John Stanier of Helmet. His style is roughly the foundation of how I’ve always wanted to play. Milquetoast, In the meantime, and Birth Defect are just a handful of songs he's kicked some total ass on
David inspired me to start drumming. I remember practicing at home, before taking drum lessons, and trying to show my teacher what I was practicing and he was like what is with all these ghost notes and loved it. Opened his eyes to David's drumming style. Not taking away from Ray, but his drumming does nothing for me, David really helped shape Korn's signature sound
I can't believe you didn't cover the 1st & 2nd albums. That sound & groove was exactly what made them groundbreaking and defined the nu metal sound and youskipped it; those rich and complex jazz sounds turned to metal that were largely lost on all the following records

One of the drummers that inspired me the most. He always used his toms in such a creative way to make grooves. And together with Fieldy's rhythmic slapping they had one of the most interesting rhythm section of the whole nu-metal era.
I'm not a die hard Korn fan and I don't make many friends when I say that I like Ray Luzier's style even more. And I would absolutely love to see a video about his drum sound. But Silveria definetely has made some unique and iconic drum beats with the early Korn stuff.

Now replay Freak OAL ,only hit the drums about as hard as you can and dial it back 10%. NOW you'll truly have his sound. Watch him play live from the 90s and he's smashing the shit out of the drums.
Silveria is groove, rhythm and soul; For me, Silveria's work in Korn marks a before and after sound in nu metal, Korn's top albums are the ones that were recorded with the original lineup, Luzier is an excellent drummer, maybe I'm getting old but with the departure of Fieldy the sound of Korn is not so Korn anymore! Congratulations on his great research work, top level!

I know for a fact, that that snare sound was unique because he used a Remo Falams smooth white marching head on the snare. I did the same thing back in the day and sounded identical.
You guys should do drum sound videos for Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Incubus and System Of A Down. i would love to know how to get that super low puffy thud of a bass drum sound that late 90's early 2000's era of music is famous for 😊
I'm not super knowledgeable on this channel, but based off the videos I've watched, they seemingly only do videos on songs that they can get their hands the versions without the drum track, presumably from Rockband based on the crowd sound you can hear at 7:34 (as crowd sound was an extra track that they sometimes included on the Rockband games). If true, I know for a fact Mudvayne currently only have Happy? released on Rockband which obviously misses off everything else, especially their LD50 stuff, Limp Bizkit have a couple of songs like My Way and Re-arranged, Linkin Park with In The End, Numb, Given Up etc, System of a Down with Spiders, Chop Suey, Aerials etc. I'm not sure about Deftones and Incubus.
I like these videos. I’ve always wondered how these cool drummers tune their kits, and these videos also help me learn more about how tuning drums work
you think you guys may ever try recreating the drum sounds off the first two albums? The way his snare drum sounded like a cannon was my own personal favorite. Also, I'd say David's drumming on the first two albums was his most chaotic and creative.
I’m not a huge Korn fan but I definitely really like the set up and the way the overall sound was achieved. Also, nice n clean drumming style. Thanks for the post!
I bought a Starclassic Performer kit a couple months ago, and it was all because of David. David's drum sounds on Korn and Life is Peachy are what inspired me to play Tama drums and Paiste Cymbals.
To have davids drum sound you need to kill your drum set with each hit like he does.😅 My band opened up for his new band breaking in a sequence. I agree they need to sell multilayered - round robin samples of each drum. I purchased the Fleetwood Mac samples to test them and only had 3 samples (low, med & high velocities) for each drum. In this day & age with drum replacement so good and now there are many edrum modules importing multilayered - round robin samples. For one snare sound there should be 25- 40 samples minimum but 65- 90 samples (very quiet- very loud velocities) for great realism, this numbers can be halved for toms & kick samples. Art Of Drumming sound on RUclips is very high quality but the samples they sell are very poor quality.
