How to Create Glowing Surface Cracks || Blender Tutorial

- In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create glowing surface cracks in Blender, using the diffuse color texture map. This is great for creating sci-fi scenes, lava cracks in the rocks, etc.
In the first part, we'll be going over how to create the displacement and the glows coming from within the cracks and crevasses of the texture. In the second part, we'll be going over an optional step, creating the different color pattern for the glow.

Why skip the original Node setup? I was really wanting to learn how to do this.
I would never have thought I would be subscribing to a channel like this but you just make it so easy!
Can you make a video of where we need to start off first before the tutorial, please?
I probably watched three or four dozen tutorials on blender, and Iand if I measure this by how much I learned in a short. Of time, no other tutorial comes close to this one. Well done.
Much appreciated :)
very nice tutorial Joshua Autumn, nice texture mix with the emission
if you want to change rgb to black and white you can also use the little arrow next to color of Image texture layer,
so you can switch to non-color-data, and if you add a color ramp afterwards you can deffinate the BW mask even more exactly
(Image texture switch to non color data-> color ramp -> pump -> normal)
thank you for share
I know I'm late to the party, but this was incredibly helpful! Thanks!
Fantastic. You should do a beginner series on the Node Editor. Now that there is the principaled shader I see a lot of confusion and I think the shader makes everything easier.
Good idea :)
is there a way to give the object a color instead of it just becoming black and the rest glowing?
Damn dude that tutorial was on point ! You must be a wizard because I've been wondering how to do this since last week :')
glad you found this tutorial helpful :)
Looks cool man!
thank you! :)
so helpful ty!!
2:31 "this trash happened because we actually didn't tell Blender where to emit light on the texture" LOL
haha
How you created the cracks in the cube?
Great tutorial, this really helped me with what I''m currently working on! ^^
Quick question, Is there a way to animate the cracks lighting up?
or a way to çontrol which cracks light up first when animated?
Thanks a lot for this man this is really great progress for my future career!!
THANK YOU!!!! I will use your tutorials for my videos :3
Hi is there a similar tutorial as this for for Blender 2.8 ? Having watched loads of tutorials most are pre 2.8 and the layout etc are now totally different so it makes it really hard to follow the older tuts. Cheers
Pls how did u made that crack rock pls make a tutorial on that
That's just a texture i believe he put on it, though i can't say for certain. ALso goddamn me reacting is probably invalid, it's been over a year, lol
I made and modeled my halo assault carrier with the bump maps and (thx to this tutorial) the emission map. but when I put it into unity with the .blend file it completely ignores the emission aspects
Hi! Im just starting off with blender and i used this on a diamond ore block from minecraft. It looks really cool, but for some reason the actual stone around the glowing diamond is pitch black. Is there anyway i can fix this or is it just stuck pitch black?
Can you make an updated version? I realy want to know
what if my texture doesn't have enough contrast to do this? How do I "mark" the parts I want to be emmissive?
I was looking through my subscriptions looking for people to unsub from, and I came across this channel. I thought to myself "Hmm this one hasn't uploaded in a while" and I was about to unsub (my mouse was literally over the unsubscribe button, and I got the notification for this video...
ARE YOU A WIZARD?!?!?!
yes ;)
Maybe how to make the cracks first?
I wish I could understand the Node editor like you do. .
Great - excellent
Can somebody tell me how I make those cracks ?
You could either use image texture or create cracks from scratch ruclips.net/video/h_QUlIqVIpw/видео.html
Cooooool!
Fantastic
Nice boy, I am so jelly!!!!
Thanks for watching K!
Hi i can download thi project ???
thank you I was trying to use the emission and got stuck
Teach us how to make the red cracks create sound and taste.
sometime in the future ;)
If people are confused about the image texture just go on textures.com and search for cracks and find one that is appropiate, if it doesn't work try another. I'm not sure if these cracks will work but I wanted to comment here before I forget
Hi! I'm new to this. How to do it from scratch?
what do you mean?
please give alink to the image u used
i really like the texture you used mind linking it?
Not sure I remember exactly which website I got the texture from since it was a long time ago, but I can tell you it was either www.textures.com/ or www.poliigon.com/
here it is:
www.textures.com/download/crackles0004/3947
i used this as a ttorial on how to add emmisions to certain arts of a hat xD
Wish you had given link to .blend file :/
this isn't that hard to make, as the video is only 4 minutes :)
Do you ever plan on starting this vid from the begining
Apparently, you have to know how to do this before you know how to use this lol!
Nice Bro....
Thanks :)
💓💓
cough cough colorramp :)
Guess I forgot about that when I found a RBG to BW node hidden in the nodes list ha ha
please be specific in your fucking titles
So useless!
