Not many people can afford these screens! I live in Thailand and they were a fortune here, since I love flying so much, I might add, that I am a 75 year old flyer. I went the distance to buy the same screens you have. I am a design teacher and I have been teaching 56 years! I think you did a wonderful job! In talking about the screens I am very curious wear you got that wonderful mount? I am going to make mine using a sheet of black plastic the is about the Sam thickness of my phone. I bought 4 mounts that were ,also a pretty penny here in Thailand. I will use one of the DJI mounts screwed to the plastic to mount on the Magic. The other mounts will sit quite normally on my aspire one, phantom 3 and phantom 4. Keep up the good work. I am very interested in getting more information on my new screens. Like you, I have the 5 inch and the 7.
jerry hochberg hi the mount is from a company called Evolution3d, they very kindly send it to me to demonstrate and there is another video on my channel about it too, you can order from www.evolution3d.com. I do agree CrystalSky is expensive but if you need a dedicated device then it is worth it.
Before I drop $ 1,000 on a 7" Crystal Sky monitor I would get the DJI FPV goggles. That's a lot of money for a super bright monitor. I bet other companies in China are coming out with their version of Crystal Sky for $ 200.00. You just need to have patience.
Ray Cot it's going to be interesting to see how bright that is, it's hard to imagine, again I will stress trying to show this on video is almost impossible, i thing 99% of people will be happy with the 1000 bits but if you can wait and have the budget then waiting is a good option 👍
John Doyle thanks for the feedback, hopefully this will something that will change very soon, DJI have removed the restriction but there is no play store or play services so currently only some apps will work.
I have the 7,8 Crystalsky monitor, which I find is OK, just OK. not as good as I wanted and a lot of money but if you have the cash wait for the 2000nits monitor, I also find there is a lot going on the 5.5 screen, its nice if you have someone to buy it for you or a company, I don`t ,but it is better than anything that I have had so far and its easy to change it from one dji to another, and you get 2 battery, only 1 with the 5,5 screen
thanks a lot, I'm waiting for my Mavic Pro Platinum combo ordered September 4, then I buy DJI CrystalSky and this accessory, Excuse my English, I'm deaf, I have cochlear implant, I live only 4 years at Newport Beach CA
Can you explain how you were able to cache the maps on your CS? I have the 5 inch CS and am using the Go App version 3.1.10 and I can't for the life of me figure out how to cache the maps. I have flown about 5-6 flights without the maps but when I use my iPhone 6 I always had them. Ive gone into the advance settings on the Go App and didn't see anything about how to cache the maps either.
Very nice video! Did you experience the radar problem where the radar does not accurately show the direction and position of the bird? Mine has jumping of the positing of the bird which is highly unpredictable despite compass calibration of Crystalsky and the bird.
Fishinglam Hi, thanks for the kind words. The compass/radar issue is known and I believe DJI are working on this and hopefully will be sorted with an update soon.
Crystalsk works just like DJI Go on Android so you can either download offline maps or Cache them before you fly over wifi, also you could tether to you mobile phone :)
I think DJI have deliberately locked down CrystalSky from 3rd party app and further Android updates to maintain as high a degree of OS stability as possible when working with the DJI apps, which makes a lot of sense really. When you have phones or tablets, the amount of glitches you get from time to time - even after firmware updates - can be immensely frustrating. For example, on my tablet right now, after several firmware updates as of Jan 2018, the histogram and manual/ af assist modes do not work at all in my GO 4 app, which could be a result of incompatibility with Android 7+ updates my Nvidia Shield K1 also forces through and that I cannot shut down. So for me the CrystalSky has serious appeal not only for the 1000 nit screen and memory expansion, but the software protections it has. I really want one, and I think I shall be shortly ordering one as "regular" phones and tablets are especially useless in winter sun glare I find
Is the DJI Crystal Sky screen just a monitor or is it an Android tablet? Does it have a hard drive? How long is the battery life of the monitor? Is there something that tells battery level? Does the USB cable come with the monitor or do you have to purchase it separate? I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Thanks...
D Hansel Hi there, it is a customised Android based tablet but it can currently only run DJI apps like Go and Go4, it does not come with cables and is designed to be used with either the DJI Bracket that has an integrated cable connection that goes into the bottom USB C port or you can use a USB to Micro USB or USB A to USB C Cable, it does give you full battery information and life is around 4 hours constant use.
iPhone 7 has a low nit count compared to the Samsung S8+ which actually has a 1020nit AMOLED Display. Please compare to a Smartphone of the Samsung S8 caliber
Scott Jordan absolutely it's www.evolution3d.com, these are 3D printed accessories but it's very solid and excellent quality. I do have a video on this bracket specifically too on my channel.
c0pyimitati0n currently the android system is locked down to DJI official apps only but there are options out there so in theory it could be used with any android app but any modifications could invalidate any warranty.
Is there any benefit to one of these other than you don't need a sunshade? The cost is ludicrous, 450 - 800 quid in the UK. When I think of the camera gear I could get for that I struggle to justify it. My advice to DJI would be to set the price by average sunny days per year - then us up here in the North East could get one for about a tenner. I guess a professional user might get some benefit - but the likes of me will just have to struggle on with my tablet and a bit of rubber round the outside.
All AtSea I do agree they are expensive and they are not going to be for everyone, I think pro users will love them because of the things like duel SD Card slots and compatibility with a lot of other DJI in the future, for a standard user it is a tough one as it's a lot of money, but these are fairly powerful devices from a HW point of view and current generation of IPad for instance is getting old in the tooth and struggling, the new IPad Pro has no issues but the Mini line is just falling well behind. Also there is adapters coming from DJI for SDI and HDMI input as well.
I gave it some more thought and just don't think I fall in their target market. HDMI is all good and well for the young'uns but with my eyesight I'd be happy with 8bit output! I don't mind paying for decent kit (hell, I bought a Mavic!) but I really think these are overpriced - most 'normal' people would most likely rather put the 400-800 towards a new iPad pro. Personally I fly with an android tablet by acer and have had no issues at all (touch wood) but then again I'm a fairly conservative pilot. Now, if I could get a bottom of the range model for around £200 then maybe I could be tempted......
Will the crystal output hdmi to a pair of fatshark goggles while in use on a mavic or P4 so a spactator can have a fpv experience at the same time as you are using/flying with it. Thanks
Adrian Lees it will It up to 1080p 60fps and directly mirror the device screen but you can also swipe up and remove the OSD to show just the video view, I will demo this specifically in my next video later today or tomorrow.
I just bought the dji goggles and now considering a Crystalsky, would it be better to return the dji goggles and go for another pair as I don't think you can connect the CS to the DJI goggles. Does anyone know?
Orange Studios it’s a direct copy of the screen so yes the overall is there BUT you can enter full screen mode via swiping up and then you just get battery level of the device.
Tebnu Hotep it will playback files from micro SD cards but the only input is from DJI products currently, there is a HDMI Input adapter rumoured for it at some point but nothing as of yet.
TBH I Had just before but the second you touch it the print show, its almost impossible to demonstrate this screen on camera. appreciate the feedback though :)
Sam Sosa in absolutely direct sunlight like this not matter how bright it's always going to be a challenge to see, the 2000 nits model should help with this even further but with this you can fly outdoors with out a shade.
Sam Sosa TBH I see one in the flesh and I didn’t think it was a great deal better than a mini iPad 4 , definitely not for what you pay for it, people forget or don’t realise that on top of the staggering price for the screen you also need to fork out for a mount and a charger to charge it . DJI really didn’t think it through in my opinion.
You're so wrong. It floors the iPad with brightness - I will concede that it has a downside - and that is that you cannot install other apps - that is a shame - otherwise I'm super impressed.

Thanks for the review, the good stuff starts at 5:30 for anyone just wanting to see outdoor lighting comparisons.
just got mines yesterday trust me i didnt think it was bright eitheer but in person its so bright it almost hurt your eyes
It is, Put it on at home at night and its WOW

Great review! Cool look at these monitors.
Thanks for taking the time for the video.
Thanks
Looks Great! Thank you for the review! Very Helpful!
Thanks for this very informative video. For me the lack of 3rd party apps, Litchi in particular is the deal breaker.
Thanks.
John Doyle thanks for the feedback, hopefully this will something that will change very soon, DJI have removed the restriction but there is no play store or play services so currently only some apps will work.

do you use it with the mavic?
yes its fine with that , I made a bracket myself for them which I have shown on youtube, but they ARE A BIT heavy ,I have also use it on a sparks
Is it possible to input a HDMI signal into the 7.5" monitor for viewing?
thanks a lot, I'm waiting for my Mavic Pro Platinum combo ordered September 4, then I buy DJI CrystalSky and this accessory, Excuse my English, I'm deaf, I have cochlear implant, I live only 4 years at Newport Beach CA
looks great Mad, need an exact link for the short USB cable your using, looks clean and neat, thanks again.......
It was from Amazon, Its a 6" USB A to USB C cable, there are plenty on there but see if you can get an 8" once as its a little tight,
will do, thank you sir......

Un vídeo muy bueno. Donde has comprado el soporte? Gracias
Thanks for the great review. I was wondering where did you purchase the short usb c to usb a cable? Thank you.
Jack Nowosinski that was an Amazon, its 6inch USB A to USB C.
Thank you. I emailed DJI and all I get is to calibrate the compass, which I did but with no help.
What kind of holder is this? you can link where to buy this. Thank you
Excellent Video - MANY THANKS :)
hello.
with this screen, it's not possible to go on internet to havereal time maps option , and do waht we can with a smartphone?
thank you.
Could this be used as a DSLR/mirrorless camera monitor via HDMI?
Sadly no not at the moment, there was talk of HDMI input but i'm not sure what the score with that is now.
do you still need to use a phone for wifi for the map or dose the Crystal sky have pre loaded maps ?? used in conjunction with its own gps
Crystalsk works just like DJI Go on Android so you can either download offline maps or Cache them before you fly over wifi, also you could tether to you mobile phone :)

What kind of cable did you use to connect to your MAVIC controller?
Its a short USB C Cable so USB A to USB C about 6 inches, could do with being about 8 tbh
Thank you Sir

Do you have the information/URL for the bracket?
nice video!!! do you have a link where to buy the 3d mount? thanks
Scott Jordan absolutely it's www.evolution3d.com, these are 3D printed accessories but it's very solid and excellent quality. I do have a video on this bracket specifically too on my channel.
Mad RC thanks.. I will watch that
What cable are you using?
does the bracket your using fit spark controller to
robert cobianchi it will :)
Could you connect the crystalsky to anything else other than a drone?
c0pyimitati0n currently the android system is locked down to DJI official apps only but there are options out there so in theory it could be used with any android app but any modifications could invalidate any warranty.
No sadly not officially ;)
Hey Mad, any idea when the 2000nits version will be coming out, meaning maybe this year?
Dennis Forbes hopefully soon, no one seen to have a definite date, if I was a betting man I would put money on end of November/early December tbh.
Is there any benefit to one of these other than you don't need a sunshade? The cost is ludicrous, 450 - 800 quid in the UK. I just bought the dji goggles and now considering a Crystalsky, would it be better to return the dji goggles and go for another pair as I don't think you can connect the CS to the DJI goggles. Does anyone know?
does the hdmi out from the monitor give a clean image or does it have the UI over it still?
Orange Studios it’s a direct copy of the screen so yes the overall is there BUT you can enter full screen mode via swiping up and then you just get battery level of the device.
Further to this DJI have added some new options in todays firmware release that give a cleaner output, I will be discussing this soon on the channel.
Many thanks for the review. 👍 ✌
İlhan Arikan thanks 👍
how do you hookup to wifi when away from house
Does This Monitor Work With Dslr Cameras?
Tebnu Hotep it will playback files from micro SD cards but the only input is from DJI products currently, there is a HDMI Input adapter rumoured for it at some point but nothing as of yet.
Mad RC Thanks For The Information. Great Video By The Way, Keep Up The Good Work
Sorry Please hold all your screens the same THIS a no go test.
I can't see a thing in the sunlight, think it still needs a hood
Where can I get the mount?
Clave3oficial the Mount is from Evolution3D.com 😀
Shoulda cleaned the screen on the crystalsky
TBH I Had just before but the second you touch it the print show, its almost impossible to demonstrate this screen on camera. appreciate the feedback though :)
Would you mind holding your screen the SAME
it is not same size as mavic it is wider
Doesn't look very bright in the sunlight
Sam Sosa in absolutely direct sunlight like this not matter how bright it's always going to be a challenge to see, the 2000 nits model should help with this even further but with this you can fly outdoors with out a shade.

RIP headphone users when next video starts...
Can see nothing in the sun.
Not bright enough!!
tomstrb i got ultra 7.85 and i'm in Florida ha so lots of sun. It's PLENTY bright enough, so much better than a phone or tablet!
