  • "That want to be perfect, that need for perfection. He pushed me and pushed us, especially the quarterback position which he was so proud of, to be perfect. And, if you miss perfect, you end up with great."
Joe Montana shares how greats Ronnie Lott and Bill Wash impacted his life, and reflects on his time with the San Francisco 49ers, and Kansas City Chiefs during his 2000 Hall of Fame induction speech.

When healthy. The best I've ever seen in a big game. Great against a pass rush.
The Redskins, Giants, Bears, Raiders, Jets, and Cowboys punished him all too much.
Under today's rules; he would have played many years longer. He never complained.

      Jason,
Yes, Joe is the GOAT. Unlike that cheating crybaby from the NE Cheatriots, Joe got punished so much throughout his NFL career. Joe never complained even when he was knock out of the game and season. Against the Redskins, Giants, Bears, Cowboys, Vikings, and even the Eagles, Joe faced some of the toughest defenses in NFL history but he and the 49ers still emerged as the Team of the decade.

People will continue to argue who's better, *Montana* or Brady, and I get that Brady has 5 rings and been to 7 Super Bowls, but the greatest *CLUTCH* QB of all time is none other than *Joe Montana* . I live in KC and got to see him up close and personal his two seasons as a Chief and they were some of the most fun times I've had going to NFL games. His 1993 playoff comeback wins over Pittsburgh and Houston were just pure *Montana Magic* and I never get tired of re-watching those games on DVD.
So people will argue, but it's rather difficult to argue with *11 TD passes* and *0* picks and a *4-0* record. *Montana's* time here in KC was fun and he was such a joy to see in person!

Some of my very earliest memories are Notre Dame games and in particular the chicken soup game. I was only 5 so I don't remember the entire game but I remember sitting on my Pop-ups lap and him and my Uncles screaming and my Uncle saying something about Notre Dame's trainers having to feed him chicken soup at halftime cause he was hypothermic. The reason I became a 49ers fan is because the Niners drafted Montana. This man was my idol growing up. He was an example of how heart and hard work matter more in the game of football than size. He had probably the skinniest legs in the history of professional football lol. He probably had 5 lb of muscle on his entire body, however he was smart as hell and could read a defense like no other QB plus he was pin-point accurate especially on the run. The bigger the game, the higher the tension was, the cooler he was and the better he played. A lot of people don't know this but he was All-State in basketball in highschool he had a division-1 scholarship to play basketball and was actually going to play basketball until Notre Dame offered him and then of course he was going to the Irish. Thank God Ara Parseghian recruited him, and thank God Bill Walsh had the foresight to draft him at QB. Thank you Joe for making the 80s, the decade where I went from a 7 year old child to man and made it a time in my life I will always treasure, a time when football was a game to a sport that I truly love and a sport that kept me from going in a direction that would have destroyed my life. Football kept me from getting bad grades in school, it kept me from misbehaving so I wouldn't be punished by not being allowed to play football. Football is a sport that my brothers and my children you and my daughter loves and I think Joe Montana I truly do. God bless you Joe Montana, and your entire family

Exactly the best clutch player is Joe. If your put your house on the line with onlly 2 minutes left in the game who would you want as quarterback. My money is on Joe. Brady may have 5 rings but really out those five 3 of them were luck by a kicker. Joe quarterback ratings in the playoffs and Superbowl is the highest. and again he didn't need a kicker to win his Superbowl.

The best is always the one who can perform under pressure and that is Joe Cool Montana. Brady not only need a kicker to win, he operates his offense with ease because he and his coach, Bill Bellicheat, knew what the defense is going to do. Joe retired at around 37, maybe 38. After witnessing what Brady has done he says that he wishes that he would have played longer. If the 49ers would have been more loyal and allowed him to finish up he might have been able to win another 2 or 3 super bowls.
People forget that Montana had the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game so he was definitely still a player. Im the clutch. Montana was as good as anyone in any sport has ever been.
