Because he didn't get the same level of fame and recognition that others of his level of talent did. He also comes across as an incredibly humble dude despite all his accomplishments and challenges him and his family endured before making it to the NBA
Man i really enjoyed opening up saying that because they were the perfect match and they should always be tied together. It was like they were one mind
Also the whole point of his speech is acknowledging the people that drove him the most. If Isiah and the bad boys didn’t drive Jordan to those 6 championships than I don’t know who did
@Greg Pettis Don't think he's worried one bit though and if someone had a problem with it in sure someone would have said something. Besides that's your own opinion on this whole speech which was years ago.
Yup he’s pretty high on himself. Doesn’t look good on anyone. When you lose say little. When you win say even less. Not sure why he had to call everyone out as such. He should have said thank you and got off stage like he said he was going to.
Chauntel Bland I agree. It is good to look back .Growing up in his era I have to admit especially in the 90's.I got sick of seeing him.I mostly blame the media. The corny commercials ,the movie ,it just got to be too much.I will say this you always knew every night he played you would see something special. But around 97 I was just kind of numb to it.But now man do I miss watching him play. This speech summed up his sense of humor and competitive drive perfectly .People that hate just don't understand the mind set it takes to be at the level he was at and don't now when he is just joking (like about the tickets). My only complaint that I think gets him heat is that he does not give enough props to the players that came before him.Sure he did not have access to watch growing up maybe. But as a player he had to have had access to film at some point in his high school , college, early pro years that would have influenced him.
Chauntel Bland Being honest and straight forward is hardly mutually exclusive to being arrogant, at all. But it's worst than just arrogant, it's filled with so much bitterness and recriminations. He has his six championships and 5 MVPs, yet he feels the need in this moment to rub the other kids' nose in the sandbox. Except he's not a kid. It's not so bad, he wasn't so nasty about it. At the same time though it lacked grace. You would just expect a guy to be more gracious and magnanimous in that moment. You're getting honored, not being debated about the greatness of your career. A little more thanks and gratefulness seemed to be in order.
Notice throughout the video, of all the players he mentioned, the only one he didn't say something bad about or poke a joke at was Scottie Pippen. Respect.
This is a glimpse into the mindset of greatness. He remembers everything, takes everything personal and uses it against you, even years and years later he used it to fuel his acceptance speech.
As it should be…..never forget anything and use it as fuel to burn the fire in your belly…..I can’t play basketball but I can hold a grudge and use it for motivation to make someone eat their words especially when they go out of their way to doubt you rather than mind their own biz.
How is it not? Laser focus and determination can get anything accomplished what have you done besides look up a video and then hate on someone in the comments that like the vid you searched out. You are a dweeboid.
Michael isn't arrogant. He simply sees himself for what he is: The greatest basketball player of all time. He's damn well earned the right to applaud himself for everything he's achieved. And he's achieved a whole fucking lot.
Yes man thats the problem with this world..Its competition and people hate greatness that is why all the arrogant comments..When the doubted me growing up playing hockey they wanted to finish you off trust me I know and when I succeded I pushed it right in their faces..I took a lot of beatdowns to get there and then they called me arrogant..Yeah ok no I knew I was good and I knew who I was and the same goes for mike only on a much bigger stage..Good for him he has self esteem not arrogance..self esteeem.People should work on loving themselves more it seems this is the real problem..You see it exactly right and its sad but that is this world..Most people do not see the greatness that is within them and them when others find their and build on it, the ones without it hate on it..Its basic psychology man...Common sense literally and so many dumb asses cant even figure this out..Mike is awesome..I love all dominant confident athletes period..They know why they are and what they went through to get there. Man I feel I could write forever on this but Ill stop here
Michael Joseph because ppl are lazy and soft. Full of fear. Those soft pussy hate MJ. Hate his dominance & ego. Because these ppl are always the victims in the real life.
Such a false dichotomy. You can be great (as MJ clearly was) while at the same time being humble and gracious. There are plenty of them. Just watch David Robinson's HOF speech ruclips.net/video/90kdNUWYMlQ/видео.html
JoWall22 lolol. He's not even the top 20 ......even not the top 5 centre of all time. U compared him to MJ? Lol. I love David. But can u remember his MVP season play off run with rocket with the Dream?
That's not the point really. He's a great player and humble... there are plenty of them. Ever listen to Larry or Magic? So you're the greatest of all time. You know what they say, to whom much is given, much is expected. Just because you're the greatest doesn't mean you can't be humble. To be honest, I really didn't have much of a problem with the speech. I thought it was cool to hear how he kept himself motivated. But hearing him talk about his children and how he wouldn't want to be them because they have to carry such a burden following him, was pretty gross, and he wasn't just talking about the high ticket prices. The selfishness in that statement was heartbreaking, imho.
He’s not disrespecting the other players ....he was telling them “thank you “.......thank you for bringing out the best in me ....by doubting me you brought out the best me ...it was a sincere thank you in his own way You also have to realize that his entire existence rotated around “winning”.....so all he really has to share with us was what motivated him to win ......that’s all he can talk about ....that’s all he knows
Truth! The story (first by Adrian Wojronowski of Yahoo) that Michael was petty for this speech was written and maintained by non-athletes and non-competitors.
At first I thought Michael was just narcissistic. But after watching this video, it's clear that he is in the sunken place. He obsesses over something that's not real. If you told people living in ancient times who lived off the land and went to war to keep their land that a man became famous as the best person at putting a ball in a circle, they would be puzzled. The TV gives us not only our heroes but our own aspirations. It put Michael in the sunken place wanting to participate in and win a childhood playground activity forever, a dark realm where your imagination creates for you false realities that you then excel at in the make-believe world of Hollywood, TV land.
Not only is Jordan the GOAT. He’s a real old school man’s man . Nothing pretentious or soft about him. He’s humble and his confidence was earned . He’s the personification of greatness .

I am and always will be a Jordan guy and not a lebron guy as I was fortunate to have grown up in the 80s and 90s and was front row for the bulls 90s phenomenon and will argue to I die that Jordan is the Goat and has no equals. But I also will not be a lebron hater and pretend the career he has had is not great and makes him ONE of the goats. Just not THE goat. But I also can admit when Jordan has done or said things that can be criticized or laughed at and the whole "I took it personally " joke from his interviews on The Last Dance is hilarious because I mean the man admitted he created false untrue scenarios In his head just to have a reason to be extra motivated to go out there and try to and usually did demoralize an opponent lol. He took ALOT and created alot of things that he could take personally which is like I said hilarious. Lol so I get it lol

Respect.

Just imagine to have borned such a LEGEND and pure BASKETBALL TALENT...❤️
He was only born athletic. His basketball talent was earned through sheer work and dedication.
He’s not disrespecting the other players ....he was telling them “thank you “.......thank you for bringing out the best in me ....by doubting me you brought out the best me ...it was a sincere thank you in his own way
You also have to realize that his entire existence rotated around “winning”.....so all he really has to share with us was what motivated him to win ......that’s all he can talk about ....that’s all he knows
Then he knows nothing!
73trident mcrider ok so a hall of famer knows nothing?

If you told people living in ancient times who lived off the land and went to war to keep their land that a man became famous as the best person at putting a ball in a circle, they would be puzzled. The TV gives us not only our heroes but our own aspirations. It put Michael in the sunken place wanting to participate in and win a childhood playground activity forever, a dark realm where your imagination creates for you false realities that you then excel at in the make-believe world of Hollywood, TV land.
