Being a hardcore celtic and Bird fan, I have all the respect and admiration for Magic Johnson. He made me upset many times when he beat the celtics, but I knew he was the best and that is nothing to be ashamed about. God bless you Magic! I wander if Magic and Bird ever played PIG or HORSE after retirement?
Just watching Larry Bird, a humble man, made me cry as he introduced Magic, what a story what a time.A friend gave me senate seats to watch the lakers, I cound not take my eyes off of Magic,he was powerful, large, and a driving force, sweat coming down his face in victory.
In my opinion he was just as good as Jordan. The difference is his character. If you watch MJ's speech it's so cocky and he just talks about how great he is. Magic spent almost the entire speech thanking the people that got him there. I have so much respect for Johnson. He is and forever will be my favorite player, on and off the court.
I look at it this way: Bird was asked, one time, who was the best player he ever knew. His answer is Jordan. Then, he was asked who his favorite basketball player would be - and he answered, "Magic. There is a difference between the best and my favorite." I am 100% with Larry. I am a huge Olajuwon fan - but my favorite players of all-time is Magic and Bird. They are tied, to me. Jordan was a force of nature - but he simply could not touch them in the realm of team basketball.
Jimboslice156 I just watched MJ's speech again and I don't think it came off that way. Sure, he was recognizing his accomplishments, he was thanking the ones who got him to where he is, but he also thanked the players that gave him the motivation to always strive to be the best that he can be.
+Jimboslice156 I hate when they compare MJ and Magic's game. there is no doubt MJ was the best individual player......but the diference in their caracter is huge, as you say. Magic is what I call a big man. Jordan always was like a kid, and still is.
If you grew up in this era as a kid whether you were a Lakers fan or not, you ALWAYS turned on the TV to watch if Magic was on the floor. The man was an amazing basketball player. Sure there have been better scorers, better assist guys (not many), better defenders. But NOT ONE of them were all of those things wrapped up into one player who could play any position, play against any other player, and have a great amount of success in one fashion or another. Not to mention Magic was a natural leader and one hell of a showman. Magic always had a saying that went like "The first 3 quarters are yours to do as you wish, but, come the 4th quarter it's winning time"....and that summed up everything he was about. SHOWTIME 4 LIFE!
You can tell that, in absolutely every facet, he developed himself as a person while playing basketball. Obviously his charisma and personality are huge reflections of his parents...but I'm always blown away at how well he speaks and delivers his thoughts. That he was forward thinking enough to truly develop his business sense -- and sought out the mentorship & put in the work, is ultra impressive. There'd have been nothing wrong with him just being the best basketball player he could & not delve into anything else, but he clearly & genuinely learned. I'm so glad he's still with us and doing well.
He could play any position, anytime and excell at it. Plus he had an amazing instinctive understanding of the game's flow... Magic breathed basketball like we do air... To me he's the best. Jordan was blessed with unstoppable agility and athletism, like Chamberlain was before. But watching Magic play, you had the impression that he had scripted the game's plays himself...like a Basketball Jedi knowing what was about to happen...
Larry and Magic personify what it is to be rivals throughout their careers and after it, be best friends and have the ultimate respect for each other. I truly feel like these guys transformed basketball in many ways. All the guys who play in the NBA today should thank these guys for turning basketball around from what it was.
Larry and Magic defined the end of an era where you can be a warrior on the court, but a gentleman and humble off the court. What a difference between Jordan's acceptance speech and Magic's. I still say MJ would not have existed without these two, Larry and Magic. That was the greatest generation in the NBA. I'm blessed to have grown up with it.
Lone Wolf Michael Jordan's acceptance speech was fantastic and impeccable. Michael Jordan doesn't have to humble himself for anyone especially you. Michael Jordan would've been Michael Jordan with or without Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Michael Jordan made the NBA billions of dollars and globally popular simultaneously. Magic Johnson is phony and Michael Jordan isn't. Magic Johnson will do and say anything to remain popular. Michael Jordan is authentic and original.
Magic and Bird defined a generation

@@travelfoodielove I am much better, thank you!!
Pure class. Makes me miss the grace of days gone by.
The mentality of Magic and Larry Legend was pure gold.
Two players that defined a generation. Wish I was alive to see it 😔
@Hammad S same. These guys were great on court , but even better as men
Best era of basketball.Diehard Celtics fan but nothing respect for #32
Right on!
This man is a winner in basketball and a winner in life. Great intro by Larry too.
Earvin's and Larry's friendship is a true example for everyone. Thank you guys!! God bless you, Dave
It's awesome that two great rivals have so much respect for each other, this is how sports should be.
Larry Bird - Superstar with brilliance, grit and grind mindset for the game!
Chills man, CHILLS! So awesome to see 2 of the greatest 3 of all time on the stage at the same time like this! The point guard ever, Magic, and the best small forward ever, Larry.
Yessir
Magic is the quintessential ambassador of the game (or at least what the game meant to many of us in the 80's and early 90's).
Magic seems like such a decent man...my heart broke when he got sick and when he returned to the Forum he was so brave and I loved him as a human being so courageous and yet so vulnerable.
The 1992 All Star game was one of the most beautiful things I ever saw. When he came out and still played like, still ran the show like.... Magic... Still brings chills or tears depending on my mood.
Shout out to Mrs. Bird who made magic lunch one day and changed the world!
Can't beat true motherhood, best move possible for her to do.
You gotta respect and admire Johnson and Bird relationship. Two of the greatest players ever! EVER!
a winner in the whole sense of the word
Magic and Bird are the best rivalry of all time. Both so humble and kind whilst being two of the greatest
The giggles these two men have for each other is priceless.
Larry LEGEND true friend.
the best thing about Bird-his speeches were even better then his game. always puttin others up first. so humble, that's class!!!
Best introduction ever. I have been to both of their hometowns!
Just imagine Larry bird and Magic Johnson in their prime against MJ in his prime, the 90s would look so different
The Bulls would have won zero championships against prime Lakers and Celtics teams.
imagine if len bias is alive that time? flying fist every where😁😁😁
@@scoobtube5746 i don't think so.. The greater the challenge the greater mj gets motivated! He will still rose to the challenge and be the greatest! I love larry and magic i do respect them, but they don't diss Jordan cuz they knew his a big threat! MJ always bounce back for paybacks!
cheeze zlayer Well, Jordan had his greatest challenge against the 1986 Boston Celtics, the best team in the history of the NBA. How did that work out?
@@scoobtube5746 against a rookie mj? In a none all star team? Ofcourse they lost but he got to drop 63pts, that made larry think how great of a player Jordan was, and he still thinks his right!
Earvin "Magic" Johnson, grew up right with the right people, became a fine example of a great basketball player, but also a great and humble human being...nothing but respect for him
This friendship is real. He becomes emotional and rightly so. Bird is a friend for life. I can see that.
always has been 👍
A true gentleman he had humility and class that is rare long live magic and bird.
I think I know Larry's speech by heart already.
EVERY clip of both Magic and Bird should be required viewing for ALL of today's players......
I love how great humans always appreciate each other. The concept of high achievers not being haters is so beautiful to me
What a night it was in Springfield mass that night.. magic Jonson a class act!! The best!
Two of the greatest of all times. So glad to have lived during this era
How can anyone not love Magic Johnson? After all his succes he is still a. Humble and authentic human being.
I love Magic. Could listen to him all day long. So humble thankful and respectful.
Hi from Japan. I’m 62 now. The are still making my life happy! Thank you! Magic ,Jabbar and Worthy etc etc etc WOW!!!
Just watching Larry Bird, a humble man, made me cry as he introduced Magic, what a story what a time.A friend gave me senate seats to watch the lakers, I cound not take my eyes off of Magic,he was powerful, large, and a driving force, sweat coming down his face in victory.
What a MAN!!! My God What a MAN!!! thank God for the Vision!!
Is this the greatest HOF speech ever?? Amazing speech from one of the greatest.
+Jimboslice156 And the humbleness in his speech is great too.
+Jimboslice156 I hate when they compare MJ and Magic's game. there is no doubt MJ was the best individual player......but the diference in their caracter is huge, as you say. Magic is what I call a big man. Jordan always was like a kid, and still is.
Jimboslice156 this is true
you've got to love this guy, speaks from the heart.
Two amazing legends. So much mutual respect for each other. Beautiful sight.
in my heart--they're will always be bird and the magic
These 2 players put NBA in an unprecedented level. Inspiring warriors. Inspiring people.
“He broke my heart so many times, I don’t have anything left” what a great line.
Humbleness is greatness. Magic you truly are the greatest..Thanks for all the memories.
First class players, Bird and Magic. They exemplified TEAM play.
Boss Key welp!!!! His name is lebron James
His only equal is Lebron, and a dare say ......Lebron might be better.
Absolutely love Magic Johnson and everything about him and Larry Bird what can we say he is the best.....
There is always great respect between Bird and Magic.
Cdt.Causetout brilliantly said
Damn!!! I love that!! A basketball jedi!!
Larry and Magic personify what it is to be rivals throughout their careers and after it, be best friends and have the ultimate respect for each other. I truly feel like these guys transformed basketball in many ways. All the guys who play in the NBA today should thank these guys for turning basketball around from what it was.
This is how you bust out a speech... Magic is the GOAT!
LUV Magic and Larry. Classic Rivalry. GREATEST IN SPORTS’ HISTORY!
What a loving amazing thing Larry and Magic shared.. We will not see their like again. The best thing that ever happened to basketball.
After all these years, I miss watching you play Magic!
Lone Wolf
Michael Jordan's acceptance speech was fantastic and impeccable.
@@kingamiiamking4915 dude go take your meds! All that was nothing but empty nonsense!
Kids these days have no idea how much talent and competitive and humble the old school ballers were. That was when basketball was a team sport.
Best point guard ever :)
Technically the big O was a SG. But I guess he played PG aswell
Tamila depends on how you define Point Guard
Tamila magic > stockton
+Obama Bin Laden pls, isaiah thomas>stockton.....you can argue with me but i know some ppl that will agree with this
+zaxx19 Isiah could LEAD his team to two championships. Stockton could not.
