@stephanie1543 PFFT! Seriously you bought that act Joe performed in front of Pat?! He was notorious for downplaying any achievement Brady did, and the infamous reusing the Otto Graham argument everyone he appeared on NFL network.
Not a big autograph person, don’t need them, never ask for them. But I grew up in Sonoma County, CA. And I only rooted for one team as a little tyke. SF. So when my dad did a conference in the same hotel as Mr.Montana, he went over during a break and got me a 8x10 of ”Cool Joe” in a business suit, signed. He misspelled my name, and to this day I DONT CARE. It’s bloody Joe Montana! Who am I to complain?! Such a smooth operator behind center. I honestly respected his choice to keep playing in KC. 49ers SB LVIII game plan: On defense, 49ers need to put a linebacker on Kelce near the line of scrimmage to bump-and-run him on every play, to keep him off-balance, then double team Kelce to neutralize him. On offense, if Chiefs load the box to prevent CMC from running, implement play-action pass for Brock who will torch them in the passing game.

Time might have blunted memories, but Joe Montana will forever be the GOAT. Brady is the greatest field general of an NFL team I have ever seen (matched in greatness only by longevity), but Montana was simply touched by God...end of story. You can't even describe exactly why Joe was great; you just watched him play & it just seemed superhuman. Elway, Marino, and so many others of that era were great, but Joe just had the extra something that was borderline spooky. It is a shame they banged him up as much as they did; he could have played so many more years.
As a Cowboys fan, he ripped my heart out in ‘81. But yet, you could never really root against the guy. Total class act! I feel blessed to have been able to watch some of the greatest players of all time. Just not the same game anymore and not for the better.

I live close to too Joe Cool. My wife is from Chico and didn’t understand how to treat Joe when you see him. She totally fanned out in the grocery store and completely embarrassed my daughters. GOAT!
The problem with these GOAT debates is that; present greatness can make us forget or diminish past greatness. And because of the multiple variables that contribute to a QBs success, contributes to his team winning or losing, especially when you take into account the era with the rule changes, I don't think you can definitively say that one QB is the best of all time.
100% we always want to be watching the greatest ever at something. Thats why the latest is always the greatest when people talk about it. Thats across all leagues around the world.
Different era, different generations but there will always be goats. There will always be players and coaches who shake things up and bring something new.
When we called Alex Smith a game manager it was a positive thing and it was a change of direction in his career. From bust to playoff winning game manager. With Purdy we've seen so much excellence. He was immediately better than Jimmy G. So people take exception to the label because he has been that good.
Montana was my favorite quarterback even always being a Chiefs fan. Of course Mahomes is now but you can love a quarterback and be a fan of another team. He was the best.
Not an accurate comment. He was much more than a game manager. You were never out of a game with Montana at the helm. He led some memorable 4th quarter comebacks. Game managers don't do that consistently. He also put up remarkable numbers for his time; he led the league in virtually every category for the 80s as a whole; and was about second to Marino in stats per season. A little more than just a game manager.
Hardest thing o ever said was “Brady might be the goat “ Cause how much I think of Joe Montana! Different era! I was was younger but it seemed more grandiose back then !!
