Skills ending in arabesque position were common around 2007 and 2008. They were variations of some of the most common acrobatic elements on beam, like aerial walkovers or front somersaults. With take-off from one leg, the gymnast would flip forward and land on the free leg, holding the arabesque scale at 90º for at least 2 seconds.
Gymnasts: Nastia Liukin, Ksenia Semenova, Steliana Nistor, Shayla Worley and Sandra Izbasa.

I love these skills. A combination of athleticism, fluidity, and poise.

They need to make a handstand hold a required element like the acro series and leap series to bring them back. Also give gymnast a .2 bonus for doing a d or above level mount. Dismounts are easier then the mount and they should be given the same attention. Also some skills need to have there d scores readjusted to bring them back im just so tired of seeing the same routine on repeat.

    I loved Shayla Worley’s gymnastics.
I was so gutted that due to injury she was unable to make it to Beijing Olympics in 2008. 😭 Thankfully we got to see her compete for Georgia in the NCAA!

I miss press to handstand. I think it should be a required element as it requires skill balance and form.

I truly miss execution because nowadays it’s all about difficulty and it’s just making the sport not even look like artistic, gymnastics more so like elegant parkour

I agree so much! Used to be, I stayed glued to each routine, but now I find myself spacing out, especially on floor and beam (my used-to/be favs) because the routines are so similar, and there’s virtually no originality.
But maybe I’m just old! I’m 63 and in my day backhand springs - landing both feet together on the beam, and arabesques were considered hard. But everyone strove for originality - like - remember the ‘72 Olympics and Little Olga KORBET? After all these years people still remember her name and some of her daredevil creativity, even if they were gymnastics fans only every four years when the Olympics was on (for free!) on our rabbit ear, great big TV consoles.
It is, after all, called “Artistic Gymnastics”.
Maybe they shout set the power gymnastics apart as a separate entity, like Rhythmic Gymnastics.

I realize in today's competition in several different sports, e.g. gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating etc., it is all about "chasing the points". The problem for me is, now most competitive routines look the same, there is no more room or value for any individuality.

I am not sad to se these go everyone was doing them and they were awkward almost always. It’s so sad if you watch gymnastics from 1988 through 2012 you see the slow deterioration of artistry, form, originality and fluidity.
When they ditched compulsory exercises after 1996 it was a slow deterioration.
Then combination bonuses being so important started in the 97-2000 code and got more and more awkward, less time for dance and less reward for graceful and unique routines. Then with the open ended system it sped up the death of originality and art. I am not sure why it is called “artistic” gymnastics anymore.
The FIG is at fault. They don’t allow the girls any time to dance and they don’t encourage organaligy. It’s become similar to the NCAA gymnastics but with crazy high difficulty of course
