This was very accurate description of Finnish army. Sufficient food and sleep is not always there but most of the time anyway. I went to navy and served on a missile boat Raahe. One of the best years of my life.

we spend sooo lots of time on the move pilot testing the new comm equipment. going into different excersises and garrisons allover finland 😂
fun moment was when we were at vekara and some snobby lieutenant started yapping why we dont greet him.
told my squad to go on i'll handle this
basically told him to fuck himself as we arent in his command and take it to our major and left

Video is accurate because it is made by Puolustusvoimat (The Finnish Defence forces). Of course it is 10 years old video but still.
Btw. also their videos is made by some "19 years old boys" in their military service. I really recommend to watch more of them and think how good that production is.
Combat Camera in search and you will found lots of stuff.
And yes, every year there is new people to do and learn it.

As stated in the video, call-ups are arranged every year for every man who has turned 18 and in theory you could do your military service immediately after that. In practice most teenagers study for 2-4 years in a secondary school, from which they graduate at the age of 18-20, and usually the military service is done at that point before or just after starting university studies. I don't remember exactly, but I think they ask you during the call-ups what your study plans are and let you finish your secondary school before calling you in to service.
Yes, the service always starts in either January or July. It's planned so that the previous conscripts return to the reserve before the next batch starts its service and the conscripts who get leadership training train the next batch of conscripts during the second half of their military service.

Myself I began my military service at the age of 18, so yes you can do it earlier or later. The usual time is when you have finished your secondary education, i.e. when you are 19 or 20.

I served in year 1999. So i am old. In Rovaniemi northern finland 6 months as fitness lvl B as medic. Did not go full medic training since it said in my papers i have asthma. So they put me in lighter dudies/service. Funny part is that i was swimmer back then. I trained 6-7 times a week. I was pretty good condition. Was ok whit it. I did not have pressure from my family to go and do army all to end to leader training. I actually regret today it some. Would have been cool to go trough all medic training as full. But was young. Did not have life experience back then that i have now 😊

This video wasn't really intended to explain things from the professional military career point of view.
Foreigners, like yourself, often seem to have difficulty to understand military systems, which aren't based solely on military professionals. There is a military professonal core and careers, but the mainly it is based on reserve, people who have gone through military education as described in the video.

    Were those the coastal jägers?
Those all-around flopping camo decos would normally get you nice extracurricular activity.
Those decos were something I might expect to see on artillery infantry.

I have to admit that our FDF has to be one of the best indoctrination, training and education organizations on this planet with the US-Marines, British Royal Marines, Svenska Kustjägare and US Rangers.. Experience of over a century.. Young people are put to the riggers and tests of Men and when pushed over the limits and succeeding high ranking grown men show you respect, award you and welcome you to Our Club.. While you get to shoot automatic weapons, explode stuff, artillery.. Huge diesel-powered vehicles, cannons.. Lots of food and talking macho shit with buddies and alot of laughing.. I mean it was and still is hugely cool shit you never get to do as a civilian.. My first morning in the Armour Brigade's jeager company started with Sibelius' Jaeger March up the ass from loud soeakers..Hahaha.. :D

You need to do your service between 18-30 year of age. Some Finnish NHL players have managed to avoid service not to visit in Finland at certain age but most do their duty as we have service branch modified to guys who are professional in any sport.
Like NBA star Lauri Markkanen, an internationally known basketball player who transferred to the reserve in the fall, was named conscript athlete of the year.

I think having Defense Forces is a good idea. But military that would be prepared to attack other countries and invade them... I don't think that is so good an idea. To my understanding, we in Finland have only Defense Forces, not invasion forces. And I am satisfied with that. Good training that makes you grow as a person, and helps you on your life later on.

  • @leopartanen8752

When you turn 18 and are officially a man, you will receive a letter of invitation from the Defense Forces. You are most likely 19 when you start the service.
Basic training starts twice a year, i.e. in the arrival batch of summer or winter.

Most of the conscripts spend time off, etc., if I'm right, I was closed for 3 weeks at the beginning, looking for opportunities, I'm sorry, a member of the group died and I came back in 1998.177, what we talked about, it's not a rest home at all. It's a good thing that the culture has come to an end, but it's going to be tested there, how the kqaveri pirsryi riuninaab at the extreme limits and maybe not everyone is affectedbyt nisr is minwtam his want to keep credible defense for is, Sorry Geammary eeoes.

Since you seem to like reacting to weird Finnish stuff, here is Steve'n'Seagulls for you. Much more lighthearted than military conscription, but still weird enough, I presume:
