According to Wikipedia, Häyhä was in a coma for a week after being injured and when he woke up he read in the newspaper that he was dead. Over the years they did 26 operations on him trying to fix his face, but medical science was what it was back then. Despite his serious injury, Häyhä wanted to join the army again when the Continuation war started in 1941, but he was denied.
God bless his service. 😊. Hello from finland ❤ . I cant even imagine what he went trough that time. Thank god he lived long happy life after the war.
He said in an interview that he was only doing what he was told to do during the war.
Reporter: What made you the best sniper in history?
Häyhä: Practice.
That´s very true. Practicing generates a "shortcut" to the brain so that the shot takes place partly on instinct. It makes easier to control all physical activities and the target.
Really cool guy! He also loved Finnish spitzes (our national dog) and owned one too, of course!
Im glad you bring this up, hes real hero who defended independence of our dear Fatherland 🫡
Mr. Simo Häyha outlived USSR . He was born before it was created - and died after it was collapsed. His epxirence is stil used is/was(?) used to teach snipers whose optic brokes somehow.
Kiitos .
Häyhä's leader was Lieutenant Aarne Juutilainen, "The Terror of Morocco", who's brother is the top flying ace of the Finnish Air Force and the top scoring non-German fighter pilot of all time.
General Erkki Raappana (1893-1962) is also very significant soldier in Finnish war history. Commander of the 14th Division of Finnish Army during the 2nd WW. Raappana’s Division fighted against Russia right in the area I’m living now, in Ilomantsi, the most eastern area in Finland.
Häyhä was not injured by a Soviet sniper but a regular infantry man during a counter attack. He was shot in the face from about 10 meters away with a Simonov automatic rifle loaded with explosive bullets normally used in machine guns for observation of the fire.

- What did you feel, when you shot enemy?
- Recoil.
That is not his quote.
never said that
He never said that, but I'm pretty sure, recoil was first thing what he feld.
@@VerojenHoivaaja he was humble man. What he actually said: i did what i was told."
False. "The recoil" is an infamous urban legend and online myth attributed to different snipers.
Snopes debunked "the recoil" quotes on Jan. 15, 2006. You can google it.
"'What do you feel, if anything, when you shoot an Al Quaeda freedom fighter from such a long distance?' The young soldier shrugged his shoulders and replied: 'RECOIL' & turned and walked away."
"Katie Couric, while interviewing a Marine sniper, asked: 'What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist?' The Marine shrugged and replied: 'Recoil.'"
"I thought John mcaleese from the sas said that"
"US Special Forces soldier was asked what he felt when shooting members of al Qaeda in Afghanistan. The soldier shrugged and replied, 'Recoil.'"
"Many who have served in the U.S. armed forces in previous conflicts have reported hearing the tale during their time in the service. In particular, we've heard from a number of men who fought in the Vietnam War and who encountered the story at that time, either as a "bar tale" or as a comment scrawled on a latrine wall."

Nice reaction. Thumbs up! :)
Just a few critical remarks about that mini documentary:
Despite the facts of the original video seem to be largely correct, I wasn't a fan of it. There are better and more detailed (but similar short) videos about that sniper out there.
One completely wrong thing in this video was his injury by an enemy sniper. In reality he was shot in the face by a regular Russian soldier.
It's never a good sign, when a whitty jokey-jokey-tone "documentary" shows at large parts the wrong weapons, when talking about the guns he used. Yes, they showed once the correct gun, but in the rest of this video they showed a Kalashnikov AK-47 assault gun that only existed AFTER the war, when they talked about his main weapon. That is a big faux-pas, when talking about a sniper and his gun in a documentary.
Further they talked about his kills with a small submachinegun...but were showing at the same time footage of a heavy machinegun, what is a HUGE difference to a small submachinegun.
So I rate that history channel, that made this short docu, not very high. They were probably too busy to crack jokes about pop groups etc. instead of showing the correct history stuff in detail.
Just to be sure: My critical remarks are only about the original video, not about your reaction.
Greetings
Mega
one mistake was in the video.. there was no lucky sniper, but Simo was wounded in a face-to-face battle against the Russians
Simo Häyhä took an explosive sniper round to his jaw, which made him collapse to the snow, and spend perhaps days in a coma. The doctors did everything they could to make sure this quiet hero survived, and he did. And when Simo felt he was strong enough to go back to the front lines, he simply said something like "please take me back to the front lines so I can do my job.", to which doctors and officers said something like "absolutely not. You are already our greatest hero, we cannot allow any more harm come to you good sir. We order you to fully recover and live a peaceful live ever-after."
And the funny thing is, even these days, our Finland's snipers are among the world's best. Simo Häyhä may have died some years ago, so it's no wonder Putin got brave and rattled his saber now against us Finland. But, the only thing Putin has that we Finland should be afraid of, or have proper caution with, is Putin's nuke arsenal. He probably won't use them, but we are prepared for even that hellfire. I wonder if Putin is...
5:38 That is totally false information. They delayed advancing Soviets, while withdrawing to main line. And Battle of Kollaa is history of its own right.
"I did what I was ordered, best as I could."
- Simo -
This is the usa version. Simo didn't shoot in sitting position. Confirmed by himself. and it's more like entertainment and condition were not entertainment.
