No Yamaha didn’t copy ktm in the clutch department. They took their technology from their sport bikes I think the Yamaha guy said from the R1.. this guy has ripped on Yamaha for years when it was and has been a all around great handling bike. Most all magazines said it was the most reliable bike out of all manufacturers! Mosiman also last year said how he didn’t like Yamaha tuning abilities and it was a waste of time! It only takes a few seconds!😂 but yet on other bikes he’s willing to change mapping plugs which are not near as good nor have the wide capabilities of the Yamaha.. Also look if it was such a bad bike from before how come Malcom hasn’t raced in quite awhile gets on the bike and was up front a lot?! He just didn’t have good fitness. Then Plessinger got on it and was amazing to. Look how he went to ktm and he wasn’t near as consistent. 🤔 the brand this guy would push all the time.. then you have Ferrandis 1st year on the bike wins outdoor championship! Then you have Tomac! He said he loved the bike instantly. He wins supercross and outdoors. Apparently he don’t know a good bike when he rides one.. lol

But...it's won the last 3 AMA championships and the only WSX race it competed in and 2 of the 3 riders that won the #1 at MXON were on blue So in some ways I hope the new bike isn't TOO different lol. I've owned Hondas for years, 250s and 450s. 1 KTM 450, and 1 yz450f. Yamaha is the best to me, hands down. The best part I liked was the SSSupention. Yamaha made me feel like I was riding the "Cadillac" of motocross bikes. I could go around the track 10x as long on the Yamaha compared to the KTM primarily because of Yahama OEM suspension choice. Also the quality suspension made the bike "feel" much lighter than the KTM even being 20lbsish heavier. I guess at 30yr old I'm creeping into the vet riders.

This is all I will say- bike refinement has been on a drip feed since EFI really. What’s the last REAL change we’ve seen since? Push button start is just a convenience. As are hydro clutches. But what erks me is why we have to wait 2-3 years for an ECU or motor manner change or a plastics change or ride height change. They drip feed us until we believe whatever they put out is great which is 100% false. I have enjoyed all my 4 strokes since 2003 but continue to ride and race a 2004 RM 250. I know it’s not new or flashy but it ALWaYS works and it above all super dependable. And not to mention it’s paid off for over 18 years. Sometimes techno crap gets in the way and then again it’s nice to chop down that tree with an old school axe!!

I really hope that it’s possible to put in the old front number plate and fender because that’s one of the only things I hate about the new bike. I haven’t ridden it to tell how I like it but i can’t imagine it’s not better than the 2005 and 2010 bikes I used to have. I wish I didn’t sell that 2010 because I didn’t absolutely need the money at the time but it did help me out. I’m undecided between the YZ and CRF but from what I hear about each bike its telling me the Yamaha would be better for me, I just love how the Honda looks and it would go well with my CR500. But the YZ450f would also go well paired with my YZ250 once rebuilt thanks to my moms bf deciding to jimmy rig it when I told him I would pay for it to be fixed correctly. Still my fault also for taking the bike out.

The 2023 is better looking than last year's model, but the reverse cylinder has always looked odd to me. Plus it creates problems with the width, the airbox, etc. I understand the theory behind mass centralization--especially rotational mass--but I've never heard anyone claim it handles so much better than the traditional layout. Still seems gimmicky.

I still ride a 2018 yz 450 and you got to know how to set it up, so you have to put a yamalink on the rear first to get rid of that stinkbug attitude then you have to raise the forks 7mm use race tech gold valves for the shock and forks use titanium motor mounts and run a 14/53 final drive and then you have a bike that will turn like a Suzuki with straight line stability and you can run around the track all day in 3rd gear. With. the negligible weight savings, I am afraid you now are going to see Yamahas breaking down like a KTM. They should have just went with a chromoly steel frame and cut probably 10 to 12 lbs instead of weakening the engine and tranny. Thats about the only thing I would say that's good about a KTM is the steel frame

I’m gonna have to gripe about this version. Lost 5 pounds still no hydro clutch . What was it, 3 yrs ago where y’all said only serious bikes have electric start and hydro clutch but now it seems yamaha doesn’t want hydro. I get to spend another 400 to make it hydro? Why not just get the gas gas, ktm or husky. Change my mind!!

Many riders including Tomac prefer cable clutch.
