  • Our own testing guru Kris Keefer was invited out to the GOAT Farm in Georgia last week to get a first look at the new 2023 Yamaha YZ450F. Keefer, fellow tester Dallas Dunn, and former 125 Supercross champion Travis Preston break down everything about the new machine from the feeling of the chassis and engine to the improved rider triangle and much more.

57 Horsepower. Let that sink in. Typically, dirt goes by the rule of three. Say you've got an old XR that puts out 20ish HP. The pucker factor would be like riding a 60hp street bike. Now take these new 450's. 57 HP, on the DIRT, is insane. Just flat out bananas. It's just like a litre bike for the dirt. To really get the most out of it, you gotta be Tomac level of good.
I'm not John McGuiness, doesn't stop me from trying to get everything I can out of my Fireblade.
This bad boy is my next purchase.

Keefer and Dallas great video. Something that I think would be helpful for future videos would be to give the year of the bike you're referencing. And maybe any mods on that bike. Dallas talked about his Honda, but we (or at least I) don't know if he rides an '08, '12, '19, '21, or '22. Which I think all of those were groups of significant changes. Thanks again!

Thanks for the detailed review! The 2022 YZ450FX is a great machine and the maps can tune it to where you need it to be. I am sure the 2023 is better in a few ways but the 2022 with the FMF full TI exhaust and GYTR airbox is amazing. Even using the loamy map it's far above anything else stock from the 2022/23 lineup...

So the YZ450 is a front steer bike? I thought historically it’s been a rear steer bike and was hard to turn.

I personally really don't like the 'soft' curvy looks of the new plastics. The general shape of the bike is great but it just reminds me of an 05-06 4 stroke, the way its styled.
