  • Drugs like Metformin, Ozempic and Semaglutide have been around for the prescribed use toward diabetic patients. It is not a matter of "good" and "evil" but a misinformed and misdirected selling point toward our fat loss consumer culture. Relevant articles are pinned in the comment section.
    If you need or want help losing weight my app is called Dōse and can be tried for free on dose.fit

    I was recently offered Semiglutide by my endocrinologist as I balance aging, adding hormones, and weight gain. I decided to focus on diet and exercise. I’m concerned about the drugs. And this was very helpful to listen to. Thanks!

      Yeah. Living with a disability, I'm grateful for what my body can still do, but I am also very aware of what it can't.
      It sucks being told again and again, "well, science says you cannot lose weight and build muscle mass without high-impact cardio exercise" when high-impact cardio exercise leaves me bedridden and unable to even sit up unassisted for days afterwards; every doctor and specialist I've ever seen has made it very clear high-impact cardio is the worst thing for me. I love to run, but I don't love my joints locking and crumpling and sending me facefirst into the ground.
      I do what I can when I can, but I honestly don't know if being "fit" is a realistic goal.

    This was so intriguing! I was on metformin for 2 years after a new Dr. thought it was worth a try. I have never been a gym rat but have always been active and have 5 kids to chase after. In the last 2 years I have noticed myself feeling significantly weaker. When walking upstairs in my home or even picking up my toddler I have noticed muscle fatigue, there is a lot more strain to do simple things. When I brought it up to my Dr. he wasn’t concerned and thought it was most likely due to my age (29 and 30 at the time) and to increase exercise, which I did, and felt it only made that fatigue feeling worse and the recovery after a good workout taking several days. I took myself off metformin a few months ago and am starting to focus on strength training. Would love to see more of this type of content from you in the future! So good, thank you!

    • @Rachel-fi4sc
      @Rachel-fi4sc Год назад +1

      29 and 30 is not an age that you should be noticing symptoms like that! Your doctor needs to open his damned ears and listen to his patients.

    Great presentation. As a former med student and someone overweight and fighting to lose weight despite hashimoto's thyroiditis, your explanation on why I lose weight but doesn't build muscles are on point and your info is very precise and concise. I wish I had this explanation back when I was diagnosed.
    Nice.

    Not sure if this has been mentioned in previous comments already but what advice do you have for someone in their mid 50s on metformin?… my aunt is on metformin for pre diabetes and doing really well with weight loss and A1C but now I’m concerned about the muscle loss you brought up. I’m definitely going to do my own research but would love to hear any advice you may have

    Would OTC fat burners like Zantrex, RedLine, etc. have the same problems/effects? Or Pre-workout powders?

    • @ThorenBradley
      @ThorenBradley  Год назад +3

      No. Those are based in stimulants. Caffeine, and other similar derivatives...they can decrease appetite....and in some ways increase metabolism. But the stimulants effect on the body should be noted...and considered. On the other hand...Preworkout is a very generally used term used to describe powders you would drink before a workout. But they contain a wide array of ingredients with different purposes. Too vast to cover in a comment.

    We'll know if you get on testosterone. Your hair will start to thin... On your head. Your body hair will go crazy growing! My husband experience, at 35-36yr old, having a definate need for it. He had beautiful thick hair! It was his "thang" but i would not trade the difference it made in his personality, sex drive, body changes, for all the hair in the world. He turned into a different man. It made me become a different wife, that i was never able to experience previously. I know he can heal himself naturally so it will come back naturally.. but he hasn't been ready to put the discipline in diet/lifestyle to do it. Which would be the best choice. He's 6'4 did weigh 265lbs. He went to 215-225lbs. Still 6'4". No fat, all 100% muscle🤤🥴
