  • We have talked about weight-loss medications a great deal - the ins and the outs, what to expect and all the potential side effects. However, one question that keeps coming up, and I have yet to address, is how does one go about getting on one of these medications?!
Let’s see what the standard process is, and its potential obstacles.
⚠️ Are you on weight-loss medication? How was your experience getting access to it? Are you still trying to obtain medication? What obstacles are you facing?

The problem I have is not getting the Rx for Ozempic, the problem is buying it! It is so expensive. I have a prescription but have not been able to buy it.

My family doctor wasn’t at all helpful when I asked about weight loss medication. I’ve been struggling with obesity for about 30 years. I found that I was able to get Contrave online through their website after a doctor renewed my information. Hopefully it’ll work for me .

I’m on Ozempic but need to go up in dose. My doc prescribed Wegovy. The price tag is $4000/month because the insurance excludes it. Saxenda would be $1500/month. So, I’m left with lower dose of Ozempic. I’m at a plateau. This sucks.

My physician just tells me to eat less and exercise more...but the dietician said I have one of the healthiest diets he's ever seen, and I often work over 12 hour long shifts on my feet, so I'm too tired to workout outside work. In addition, my brother, father, AND grandfather are clinically obese, so my family has a history of male obesity. Still, my doctor insists my over 300lbs body weight is "due to not being active enough".

Thank you for this video. Do you happen to know if being on steroid inhalers would be an excluding factor for using this drug? I was in the ICU for 3 weeks with covid pneumonia, ARDS, and Sepsis last September and now have long covid. The fatigue and joint pain have been making it VERY hard to exercise and I’m packing on the pounds!

It should be no issue but talk to your doctor.

The problem is, most insurances aren’t covering Ozempic now unless you are diabetic. That just became an issue on January 1 of this year, at least with my insurance company. It’s pretty sad that an insurance company would not be willing to be proactive, than reactive! So annoying!

Yes our medical system is broken!

What’s annoying is that insurance companies control what your doctor can prescribe you. One day you will wish they didn’t have that much power over your treatment.

I honestly don't have enough experience with either from a clinical perspective. From the data perspective they are similar.

Phentermine is good for curbing your appetite, giving energy and helping with water intake because it causes dry mouth. It doesn't necessarily help you lose weight by itself

Fat shaming-a weight loss doctor had me on 600 calories a day. I was gaining weight. She said I was not counting all my calories/I was lying. She weight loss was nothing more than calories in/out.

You are lying if you think you're gaining weight on 600 calories a day. That's less than what a baby eats. You need to stop being delusional and count everything that goes into your mouth. It's why you became obese in the first place.

You were prediabetic, that is scary enough. Once you reach the weight you want you can stop taking it. If you are diabetic you have to take it for life!

Most people gain the weight back. It is recommended for life for both those with diabetes or obesity as they are both chronic diseases.
