  • Let's discuss one of the best weight loss drugs just introduced in the market, Wegovy. You will learn whether Wegovy (semaglutide) is a good weight loss option for you or not. How much weight loss you obtain etc. and more.
Wegovy is the newest weight loss drug that is here to help individuals with obesity. It is being manufactured by Novo Nordisk, one of the most notable Danish pharmaceutical companies. This weight loss drug specifically aims to assist in chronic weight management of adults with obesity or overweight individuals with weight-related comorbidities like hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. This medication helps hasten the weight loss accompanied by the proper diet and physical activity. In a way, Wegovy is similar to Ozempic and Rybelsus but also different.
The active ingredient in Wegovy is semaglutide. Same ingredient used in Ozempic and Rybelsus. This weight-loss medicine is a known GLP-1 agonist, and its mechanism of action centers on mimicking GLP-1, a hormone produced in the body. Approximately, Wegovy has a 94% similarity with GLP-1.
Wegovy acts on several sites in the body, and one of the main targets is the pancreas. Wegovy induces the pancreas to release increased insulin levels to help improve the glucose uptake in the body.
Wegovy also acts on the receptors in the brain, specifically the hypothalamus and brainstem. This action leads to suppression of appetite that will cause you to eat a lesser amount of food than usual. This hormone also acts on the gastrointestinal tract by decreasing acid secretion and slowing food movement during digestion.
The weight loss resulting from the intake of Wegovy is by the mechanism of reducing the hunger felt by the user and increasing the sensation of fullness. Therefore, users tend to eat lesser amounts of foods and reduce their calorie intake. Of course, for this weight loss drug to be effective, the user should also follow proper physical activity and diet.
What Can Wegovy Do in Chronic Weight Management?
After the FDA's approval of this weight loss drug, the management of obesity has been changed. The use of Wegovy opens up a new avenue for improved techniques and strategies in dealing with obesity and other overweight conditions.

Started WeGovy a week ago. I've already lost 10 pounds. I am morbidly obese, I weighed in at 366 at my physical and it was the highest I ever saw on a scale, I knew I had to do something. My doctor recommended WeGovy, I was skeptical at first, but after my insurance covered it, I just knew I had to do it. My second dose is on Thursday, so far my only side effect has been headaches. I definitely feel fuller. The way I put it, I'm mentally hungry, but not physically hungry. I don't have to eat, or feel like I have to eat. In fact, I have to make sure I eat during the day. Let's hope this continues!

I started taking Wegovy about 8 months ago. So far, I've lost 35 pounds and will continue until I lose another 20. I cut back on carbs and eat massive amounts of fruit. (Snacking was my enemy.) I also bike about three times a week but not too strenuously. My blood pressure has dropped. My back no longer bothers me. I can bend over and clip my toe nails (no longer do I have to raise my foot to do this.) I can also pick up two of my grandkids at the same time. In my case, it has been a combination of Wegovy and willpower.

Started semaglutide January 16 2023. Felt the effects of the shot .25 within the first couple of hours. Super in tune with my body. My sugar cravings have virtually disappeared. At almost 50, the last six years had been rough physically. I weighed in at 194.8 that first day. This morning I weighed in at 190.4. The side effects I've seen have been overall minimal. I do believe it correlates with what you eat and how much. The goal is eating whole foods as much as possible as I know this is when my body functions best. I've been to the gym a few times for 35 -45 minutes each. The only other time I've felt this good is 20 yrs ago when I went vegan cold turkey. That lasted three years. The weight fell off from 225 to 150 in 6 months. Once I reintroduced processed sugar and high carbs, I was always yo yoing or over exercising. By fall of 2020 i was back up to 216. This is an opportunity to jumpstart my weight loss, but ultimately in order to live whatever time I have left on earth healthier and slimmer, its up to my choices each day.
April 7 2024...15 months later. Grateful that I was able to lose the weight with the assistance of this drug. My body has sustained a weight of 157 - 160. It was slow and steady. In the past, I would have tried to force it to go lower but I realize this is where my body wants to be naturally. It's NOT a miracle drug but it definitely helps with cravings, and the feeling of not being in the diet mentality. I am no longer obsessed with exercise. I walk 15-25 miles a week with some weight training a couple of times a week. I don't eat clean, instead I eat. Some days its processed foods, other days, protein and veggies or fruit. I still practice intermittent fasting. I spent my 30' and earlier to mid 40s obsessed with what I ate. At almost 51 I realize it was damaging to my mental and emotional health. Life is truly a journey:)

No one really speaks about this drug like this so I appreciate it. I’d love it if you looked at the studies regarding inflammation and semaglutide that are in trial right now. I have not had much change in appetite. But I have had severe gastric pain for years from autoimmune gastritis (diagnosed via biopsy) and no drugs have helped but after being on wegovy for months I no longer have intestinal pain and a recent endoscopy came back with less inflammation. I went off it for 5 weeks and it returned by week 4. Same with the skin ulcer like rashes which are gone. I have also been able to eat more while on prednisone and not gain. I was down below 1000 calories a day not to gain and having severe gastric issues. I have been able to sustain a 1.800 a day diet Whole Foods like I was before and have lost 80lbs since July. I had fast loss which I just attribute to major water retention loss as I’m no longer swollen while taking prednisone. But I only lose 1 sometimes 2lbs a week of fat. I couldn’t care less if I stopped losing because I’ve been pain free and feel ok.

I finally committed to asking to get an insurance PA for this today. I’m 43 and have been jumping between 240-320lbs for over a decade. I went though fad diets, went through big cycles where I could make fitness and diet management a cornerstone of my daily routine. But job and home demands increased spiking up to 335 and the best I’ve been able to do was to slowly loose about 1-2 lbs a month for the last 6 months. Plus the weight is compounding joint damage issues, sleep issues, back issues, blood pressure problems, etc. so my hope if that with my normal routine seeing a slow loss, this will help accelerate my loss and hopefully create that feedback cycle of more energy and overall wellness when you have less weight on your body. I’m hesitant on doing gastric surgery, and no one in 700 miles does any of the more modern procedures like the gastric balloon or the like.
Hopefully it works well and helps me superboost the work I am doing.

Took Saxsenda for about a month, lost 14lbs during that time. Now started Wegovy in it’s place since it’s widely available. Hope to keep going down. 6’1” Male 346lbs at Saxsenda start 332lbs at end and beginning Wegovy. No hunger from Saxsenda, and didn’t have side effects outside of anxiousness about taking meds which has always been a thing for me I just don’t like them.

I started Wegovy in June '22. I have lost 66 of 221 pounds. That's right! I am type 2 diabetic. But my sugars have been phenomenal for the past 3 months or so. My dad told me that I looked like I did in college (I am 55 yo female). I have experienced vomiting and nausea as my only side effects. My recommendation is to pair your weight loss journey with something like Noom or Calibrate so that you are learning healthy new lessons in eating, and taking care of your mental health and some of the underlying reasons you might have been a weight gainer. The amount of progress you see with your own eyes is amazing and will help jump start you into wanting to change so that you can successfully keep the weight off after you stop the medication. (I am a regular person, with no medical credentials whatsoever.)

Head hurts and spinning. And I have been sleeping alot . Chicken broth Gatorade and ensure. I couldn't keep done either. On day 7 today I'm finely starting to keep some ensure and electrolytes down. I am a diabetic on Ozempic. The medical effects were excellent from the start, even before reaching the full dosis of 1 mg. Weight loss, Hb1ac went down from 7,5 to 6. Lots of nausea, though.
After six months on 1 mg, the side effects became pretty bad. It started with foully burping and nausea, a few hours later vomiting (no matter if I did eat or not) and then for two days diarrhea of the sort that I needed to have a toilet within easy reach - no shopping, no church, nothing. And such a cycle started every four or five days... A lowering of the dose did improve the debilitating diarrhea, but it is a guesstimate to inject about 0,8 mg - that keeps the side effects to normal burping and evening nausea.
I take it, because it is really effective against diabetes, but I would hesitate to recommend it roundly. It is definitely a potent drug with side effects that can prevent a normal life, even though they are not actually dangerous.
