Lmao the woman’s face at like 4:43! She’s just like what are you doing? Hahaha Thanks for the tips and tricks Maddie !
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I know, the look on her face made me lol 😂
Every time I watch your food shopping videos I realize how much more food costs in the states. Even when you’ve done organic food shops, it’s been vastly cheaper there than it is here. It seems like we pay twice as much over here. Though it also varies state to state.
For example, you were standing near those vegan meat alternatives and the shelf tag read £1.25. That’s $1.47 in US currency. A product like that in the US would likely run between $3.00 to $8.00 depending where you live and shop.
Yes, exactly!! We usually never have that type of selection of vegan meats either at Aldi’s.
@@MsIdgie1 I feel like the amount of food they got (for just under £25/$29) would cost around $50 to $100 in the US.
@@KiraHelenRose yes, at least $50. Our vegan meats and cheese is so much pricier! I wonder how much they pay for Violife. It’s usually $4-6 here.
@@MsIdgie1 Depends but around £2-3.50p
Here’s an idea for paying for the essentials such as oil. When your shopping comes under the amount you budgeted, you save the remainder, which in your shopping today was 35p, and use it when you’ve accumulated enough to purchase the essentials.
*Cries in Canadian*. My partner and I do a very similar food shop every week. Usually we get some sparkling water and maybe a few more snacks. It costs us around $100.
Can you even get out of the store without spending $100 now? It’s ridiculous how much profit they are making and then say they are freezing prices for our benefit. They freeze their supplier max prices around this time every year apparently. Aren’t we thankful to pay $10 for a block of butter?
It's so awful! I'm buying so much less fresh fruit and veg because it's so expensive. It's infuriating.
Cost of living has gotten out of control in Boston - I was in Target the other day and it was $2.29 for a SINGLE apple (approx 1.95 in pounds sterling!) - I can't wait to get home to get as much produce in my system as poss!!
Great to do a cost of living update.
Aldi stopped selling dried lentils. They used to but I've not seen for months.
Aldi have never sold tofu - but Lidl have recently started selling a massive block of organic tofu for £1.99! (It's in the bit with the hummus, plant burgers etc)
Ooh good to know
I find this interesting because where I live in the US aldi does sell tofu.
@@mckaylaschulke I think it varies by location. Some of the Aldi locations near me have tofu while others don't. I'm also US based.
the US aldi does have tofu usually although it’s often flavored already like teriyaki or bbq flavored
I've seen Clearspring silken tofu a few times in the middle aisle at Aldi, and stocked up!
another tip:
when comparing prices don't only compare price per kilo but also price per 100 calories for goods that aren't the same.
for example when deciding between pasta or rice.
I love seeing grocery hauls from other countries. Groceries in the UK seem much cheaper than in New Zealand. For example one aubergine is often $5-$6 (nzd) a cucumber $4 and in the winter tomatoes were $19 per kg.
😱 do you have regional alternatives?
I have seen so many people recently saying that M&S is actually quite affordable with some of their basic ranges so would be really curious to see a video there! Looking forward to seeing the next instalment when you cook up all the food you just bought :)
Don't reply!!! SCAMMERS..😠😠😠
I just saw that M&S chopped tomatoes are 55p so cheaper than some of the budget supermarkets
Surprisingly waitrose seems to have the absolute best range of dried legumes, for the lowest price anywhere i can find. They do bags of 500g for £1.20. We usually go once every couple of months and fill a trolley with dried beans and lentils. The 10 bean mix is our favorite.
Being French but having lived in the UK and Rep of Ireland for years, I am always amazed by the vegan options in grocery stores there. We really don't have that in France or not as much, you guys are so lucky
That’s so true, in France we are always a bit behind so there are less vegan options in stores and it is so much more expensive. But now I live in the US and have learnt that the US is even more expensive 🫠
I think Aldi UK is even cheaper than in Germany! Can't get over the lady judging you in the background when you interrogated the tomatoes LOL. Great video, also loved the follow-up video with the recipes!
Gosh I just read so many comments about the costs of living and it is so scary!
That being said, thank you Maddie for keeping it real and doing these kinds of videos. I’ve been finding it hard to watch other influencer’s videos that do hauls or shopping as if nothing is going on? I’m not judging them I’m sure we don’t always get the full picture but I do like that you actually address these things and remain creative and share your journey with us. It’s super helpful and down to earth! I do love the fun content though but I just wanted to say thank you for always keeping it balanced for your different audiences ❤
Homemade Burmese tofu has been my solution so far to the lack of tofu sold in Aldi! It's worked wonderfully! :)
fyi, protein is assembled/created by our bodies, based on the amino acids in the food, which is why beans and rice (brown) is a perfect food combination.
Love watching your budget food shops!🥰
I love this series! Super useful.
Really enjoyed this, would love to see your meals for the week . Thank you ❤
Yeah!!!!! So happy to see you and this video!

I love these videos! Please keep making them!
YAYYYYY I looove this series so much !! So happy 😃😃😃🌻
I was literally just re-watching your last grocery shop yesterday and thinking a new one would be really useful!! Thank you brilliant video!
Please do another one 😍 I love this series
Wow, £0.58 on the head of lettuce!!! -- last week here in Ontario, Canada, a head of lettuce even smaller than this one was $6 CAD, which is roughly £3.83!
That is nuts!!!!
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Once finished a video about what basics are good to build up for the pantry might be really awesome :-)
I watched the older videos of this series and I loved it please keep this up ❤️💗!!
i really enjoyed the series the last time you did it! glad it’s back :)
Haven't been on yt for a while and chuffed too see the return of this series! Also you are absolutely glowing!!! ❤️
I really enjoy watching grocery shopping vlogs :)

Amazing video!! Comes at the perfect time! X
Love love love these videos ❤
Love ur videos always 💝
Really enjoyed your previous series so seeing an update is so interesting- you put in so much work to these videos. Honestly can't believe the price of some things these days. Can't wait to see the next video :)
Amazing tips very helpful and thank you budget meal ideas thanks 😊
That lady behind you in the tinned tomato section realised she shouldve been checking the ingredients for sure
Thanks i love this concept
try repotting herbs in multiple containers, some don’t like being cramped in the nursery pot. you can root some herbs in water by taking a cutting, if you need more
Thank you so much for bringing the series back! I hope you do Lidl next because that is the shop I buy most of my groceries from. I life in Germany and some of the things you have in the UK aren’t available over here. And your cooking is different from ours. But your videos give a lot of ideas. Thank you!
Thank you! So helpful.
New subscriber from the USA. Amazed at the difference in food prices but a reminder that I need to check out my local ALDIs to compare prices to the other stores we go to! You really got so much at a great price!
Also you can regrow spring onions, just pop the root in a jar of water and it'll regrow for a long time if you change the water every week or so ☺
I am forever fascinated by these videos. That amount of food could be around $150 where I live, even being careful like in this video. It’s very inspiring to see ways to be more and more budget conscious! Thanks for the video! 💛🧡❤️♥️
Great video Madeleine, I struggle with Aldi because they often don't have a lot things as you found. I look forward to seeing what you make.
When you did these vlogs yrs ago, it's what made me join your channel. So glad I did. yeah aldi have never sold tofu. Thier freezer section is really good, when they can be bothered.
Re-subscribed thanks to this! LOVE this series!
Thank You so much for this video.
It has helped me plan better and feel more in control of my shopping habits as a vegan . I will probably have to get Tofu in another shop near by .
Keep up the videos !
I love them 💚💫
Your make up looks absolutely insane! What have you done differently? ITS STUNNING! 😍🤩
Never found tofu at Aldi unfortunately and they seemed to have stopped selling both dry green and red lentils. I don’t think they usually sell bread flour either - often do have it on the specials aisle but very difficult to plan for! Love these videos - looking forward to seeing what you cook this week!
Yes same here I’ve never seen firm Tofu in Aldi they should defo get this sorted. Occasionally they have silken tofu in a Tetra pack in Jan x
Yay! This is exactly what I need
I am really looking forward to this group of videos. I live in the US with a family of seven and we are whole food plant based, we shop at Aldi, Lidl, and another local grocery store. I really enjoy shopping for 2-3 weeks at a time. Its a bit crazy in the amount because of our size family but we have a stocked home. We have learned what lasts and what needs to be used up. Please do share the recipes and all. I am curious about snacks and all the little bits. This would be nice to see a 4-6 week trail of this. I have noticed that we have learned a lot when we try something like this for a month or more. Thanks so much for your time and ideas!!!
Even cheaper for packaged grains, rice, produce is Asian markets/shops.
And a great chance to try new foods. And the choice of flours is the best.
Hi Maddie, so excited this series is coming back!! I love it! Can I request a video where you look into buying surplus? I get most of my food via Olio and Too Good to Go (also Lidl £1.50 boxes sometimes and there is a surplus supermarket near me in Notts so I'm very lucky!) and it's not only really reduced my food bill, it's also a really good way to shop ethically and rescue produce that would otherwise gp to waste. (I'm also vegan like you by the way!) I don't know if Olio and TGTG are big near where you are (sadly it can sometimes be a bit of a lottery to get good produce) but might be worth a try!
Great video Madeleine!
Nearest shops for me are Lidl and Tesco. If you are on the budget, Lidl have a veg and fruit box 'reduced but still fresh' for £1.50. You can find different fruits and vegetables in really good condition, if you won't use everything you can freeze them. The staff usually put them by the cashier early in the morning. I recently got two in different times, and was really happy with them.
Can I just say, I shop at Aldi regular and that shop you've just done Madeleine is blooming brilliant. Ever thought about becoming a personal shopper for us poor. 🤣. 🥰🥰🐾
I'm actually SHOCKED at the prices of these things! It seems so much more affordable than here in the US. I don't have an Aldi anywhere near me at all but I've NEVER seen a store sell "WONKY" vegs either! I think that awesome and I'd go for these all the time if the price was right!
I really enjoyed this video! Getting to see the selection and cost of things was very eye opening!
Thanks for sharing!
Good budget meal is roasted aubergine with a black eyed bean in chopped tomato sauce on top. Pair with rice works perfect. 😊 great video!!
You are by far the best vegan food channel.
I like the video is very nice and inspiring for shop in supermarkets.. Thanks for your content and recipes 🌱😋🌱😋🌱
Hi,
😊
I really appreciate this video.
Thank you for the ideas. Waiting for the next one...
That was really cheap... Probably here will be almost the double...
Love from Portugal
Im just starting to try eat more plants and your videos are really helping! Amazing when i looked at this video and we go to the same aldi!
Another awesome budget video Madeleine. The nearest store to me is a Lidl and I have done a weekly shop for £13.88. I don't have to buy brown onions because I have some left that I grew myself. I also don't need leeks for the same reason. I have never found tofu in Lidl & Aldi but do find lentils in Lidl. Love 🥰 the video and love 💕 Madeleine.
So pleased 😌 to see your budget series back. I think 🤔 it would be great to see a gluten free one also avoiding white starch foods which cause mega bloat xxx one of your first ever watchers x amazing to see the grow in your channel xxx
thanks for this video, waiting for recipes in the next video
Aldi in the US does sell tofu. They typically have plain extra firm tofu and occasionally marinated tofu. At least at my Aldi. And in the US, one of the cheapest possible veggies you can get at Aldi is cabbage. They are also selling butternut, spaghetti, and acorn squash for very cheap right now.
Loved this video!! New subscriber 😄
This is really great, some great advice! I have a tip though, as a baker I can tell you that buying the cheapest carb options (pasta, bread, noodles, etc) they have used the worst quality flour to make those products, hence why they can sell them so cheaply. It's a far greater option to buy a bag of decent quality flour (maybe £2-£3, not wholegrain unless you know what you're doing with it) that will last a couple of weeks and can be used to make these things in batches. ALDI and Lidl notoriously use low quality ingredients for anything that isn't fresh produce, so I try to make it myself whenever I can!
It's tricky. People don't know what they're doing, and it costs to use energy etc. If people fuck up the recipe they've wasted their time and money then. But I'd love a recipe If you had one. It's just a thought
Coriander tip: you can sow them in several pots from August onwards and they can survive the autumn outside, even mild winter in green house if you only harvest leaves. You can also sow them in spring if it’s a slow to bolt variety, or you can enjoy coriander flowers or green seeds.
Here in Spain they have both regular and smoked tofu as well as dried and cooked lentils (in jar), all from the GutBio
brand.
I’ve missed these videos so much! Will plead guilty that I unsubscribed a while back once I realised they weren’t much of s thing anymore and then I found your TikTok showing what you got in this shop and im subscribed again. I spend ages looking for well done, U.K. based veggie/vegan budget shop videos and I’m having to rewatch content from ages ago 🤣 please keep this as a semi regular thing 🥰
Off topic, but you look amazing! Thank you for such a real video
Hey! Madeleine your vlogs are too too too relaxing and I really love your vlogs so so so much you inspired me so so so much and I wish you reach 600K Subscribers very very soon!💫☺️💕
I’m in the US and often during the pandemic the vegan sections were constantly out of or low on foods that use to be consistently stocked (meat and dairy alternatives).
It started to get better during end of 2O21 but once inflation hit, “supply chain” news stories etc it rapidly dropped back down. Now being almost out of everything vegan has become a new normal. Shopping has turned into a “let’s see what they have” adventure farther then choosing/ deciding which vegan brand you like best.
The budget supermarkets have really upped their vegan game. I get a lot of bits at both Aldi & Lidl. Made me laugh at 07.14 that they have a specially made 'do not stand on the glass topped freezer' warning picture!
In my country. both Lidl and Aldi (which is called Hofer here) sell tofu. And Lidl also has seitan. Aldi's one is a local product, though.
Love these budget videos. My local aldi hasn't stocked any bread flour for many months. Shame because it was less than half price of tesco one. Love to see what meals you make with this shop
Great video!
Some large supermarkets recycle soft plastics like the packaging for the veg/crisps/bread. It tells you on the packet if you can, my local tesco has a massive bin for it at the entrance of the store. Obviously best to avoid it but if it isn't possible it is an option.
Try and find your local international shop. You can get like 1 litre of dried lentils for about a quid. And huge quantities of herbs and spices. So much cheaper that way.
I just noticed how many subscribers you have! I really like your outfit in this video. I just bought a red roll neck today from a chazzer. Will pair it with a denim jacket now.:)
Well done with your Aldi Food shop. I’m not vegan myself however I didn’t realise how much variety for vegan food there is. £12 for food shop is very impressive.
Hi Madeleine! I really enjoyed following you around in the grocery store, thanks for the tips! Do you ever buy in bulk? Or get dry beans instead of canned?
In Germany we have Tofu at Aldi Nord but Aldi is kinda different here 😅
I’d like to see a video buying exactly what you want and really quality items.
Really like the video and glad you commented that Aldi don’t sell loose vegetables and everything is in plastic 😊
So many people saying Aldi have never sold tofu but i’ve 100% bought it from there before, it was in January so i think that’s the only time they do it, my aldi still does lentils… maybe it depends where you are or what stock they had??
Love these videos I watch the old ones all the time! ❤
I can only wish that our prices in America was low as your prices there! Absolutely loving this video haul for your groceries and we have an Aldi, I have one a few blocks from my house, but the prices aren’t nowhere near that low lol thank you so much for doing these types of videos. They really do help. I have a prepper pantry downstairs, so I’m pulling off my shelves to help lower my grocery bill here in America. Can’t wait to move back to Europe in the future. 5:19
our milk every week here in New Zealand comes to $20 (they are about $3.50-$4 each!)
This was great, lovely healthy variety of food and many good staple items as well.
I noticed someone else mention it below but here in South Australia we do have tofu along with a small selection of dried red split lentils, dried soup mix peas etc at our Aldi's , so am grateful for that. The blocks of tofu are the firm kind for around $3 for a decent sized block and always cook up well.
I don't think you needed to worry about not having enough protein for the week either with all the different tinned beans that you got, and actually even the potatoes contain protein as well, so you should have been covered fine for that. You do definitely have a much better selection of meat free products at the Aldi's you have over there in the UK though compared to the minimal amount we have to choose from in Australia!
One thing I wanted to add is over on Frugal Fit Mom's channel who is in the US, she has a very well known basic recipe for artisan bread which is a very simple and easy to make no knead bread, and this actually only requires 4 ingredients but is made just with plain flour which makes it very affordable as you don't need the more expensive bread flour to make it, so that's a really handy recipe to have up your sleeve! I know Alex is extremely skilled at making bread but thought this information might be useful for someone else who wants a super easy and simple fool proof way to make it with just plain flour.
Very much looking forward to your further videos to see what meals you make, you're always very inspirational! Thanks :)
For lentils noodles seasonings tofu shop at different ethnic stores
Great variety and prices
My local Aldi in NW London sells cauldron regular tofu 🤞🏾it becomes more common nation wide
Quite a nice haul
thankyouuu for these!!! trying show my parents that being vegan during the cost of living crisis is not too hard
oh man all of that at Aldi in Australia would be double the price! Looks like they have such a great array of vegan options though, cool to see a different countries offerings 😍
