i am watching these videos as a student living in amsterdam, and honestly i thought the prices would be more or less similar but i am actually amazed at how much cheaper uk grocery store prices are!! they seem to be much closer to prices in spain (where i'm originally from) - amsterdam is becoming more and more expensive, it's crazy. thank you for your videos, they're great inspiration - and love the actual effort you put into making veganism accessible and show how it can be affordable :)
A tip I would suggest is do the scan as you shop if your supermarket has the option. That way you know how much it will cost before you get to the check out and can take stuff off of you need to without feeling awkward at the tills! Thank you Maddie I love these videos!
Huge avocado tip: M&S often have big bags of ripen at home avocados (6+) for £2! I always buy in advance and they ripen pretty quickly but last ages when ripe
Your recipes throughout Veganuary have been inspiring! Sometimes reduced veg and herbs go black and mushy if we don't use them quickly so I have learned that taking them out of the packaging and putting them into brown paper bags in the fridge makes them last much longer and reduces food waste. Last year I bought 200 brown paper bags on amazon and paid less than £5.00 and still have loads left. Love your creativity with food, some of your recipes have been tried and tested and have gone down a treat here. 😋
I love this series so much. I watch from New Zealand and I appreciate how you rotate around so many different shopping options for the budget food series as even though I can’t exactly replicate, I still get a really good board range of ideas I can make work with the limited options we have here. Keep doing these! Can’t wait for the next vid
I really appreciate the effort she puts in choosing a lot of vegetables in a budget vid. All too often this kind of videos have just the usual suspects: onion, potatoes, carrots and the optional bag of spinach. Her shopping was a feast for the eyes and the perfect example of budget and nutritious. Thank you Madeleine! ❤
This proves that good meals can be made on a budget. I really think some - not all - but some people just don’t know how to budget or cook from scratch and that’s why they’re struggling to survive .
I love this series! Always good to pinch pennies but also great to try to reduce food wastage. I always end up buying too much and then throwing stuff out when it goes bad before I can use it.
You can regrow your bunch of green onions a few times after cutting off most of the green parts. Just put the white bulbous root ends in a bit of water in a glass or other container thay will hold them upright and put them in a window. Mine are on the windowsill in my kitchen. I change the water daily. The green parts will regrow within days.
Love your content Maddie. At Tesco the special offers used to be available to everyone. The price was automatically cheaper at the till. Now with clubcard prices the special offers are only available when you use your clubcard. Also if you cut the green part off of your spring onions and pop the root part in a glass of water, they'll grow new spring onions. Just sit it on the windowsill and change the water every day 😃
I just commented on the regrowing of the green onions myself, then read you comment! I only learned of this tip this year. Wish I knew of it years ago.
Thanks for the great January content on your channel Maddie and Alex it’s nice to see that like everyone else you’re back at work and haven’t gone awol as some yt tend to do. The meals have been awesome and there are a few on my list to try over the coming weeks. 👍

everyone in the comments saying how cheap food is in the uk meanwhile im here thinking about how much groceries have gone up in the past year or so living here😭
Me too, it really does depend on what you buy and what happens to be on offer at a time. If you have special dietary requirements it can be an absolute nightmare!
I was actually thinking the opposite! Nearly everything appeared to be wrapped except a handful of items. Coming from Australia where you buy most items unwrapped and place in reusable bags. That way you select the amount you want/need rather than have food wastage too.
Very jealous of how cheap food is in the UK! I live in New Zealand and I was curious how much this shop would cost me here so I put everything into the grocer app and at Paknsave (our most budget supermarket) this shop would cost $121 NZD which is equivalent to £63.50. Also live in NZ and makes me sad how much more expensive it is here, even at paknsave. Think I'm getting pretty basic stuff at the supermarket then it costs heaps :')
Same here in Australia, that would have cost a lot more than the equivalent for what she paid, especially with all of that lovely fresh produce. Fruit and veg prices are sky high here at the moment!!

So easy to be Vegan in Liverpool, we have tescos and asdas. My weekly shopping is like £20 since going wfpb + Vegan, and I'm a tall guy so I eat a lot of food. My favourite shop for groceries is aldi by far, it's not so good for the processed Vegan things but its great for produce. Works well for wfpb Vegans.
Thank you for all of your ideas , I love them. Been vegetarian for 20 years. Where I am living in the United States it's extremely hard to find good produce you're around.
I wish my local stores had more veg on offer. I’ve noticed that America tends to throw out produce instead of put them on offer, I’ve hardly ever seen items that low price for veg here.
Wow!!! My husband spent 15€ today on only: fresh tomatoes, avocados, grapes, mandarins and bananas... And that wasn't even from our most expensive local shop!
OMG vegetables are so cheap in the UK !! Tons of them are cheaper that 1£, I am stunned. It is more expensive in France and there is a whole sea to cross to get those veggies to the UK ...

It’s incredibly comforting and very inspiring for those times where you just need something cheap and nourishing.
Loved this! I have a video idea- organic vegan food on a budget? I eat completely organic but am also have a strict budget, so this would be really helpful. It may also inspire different types of recipes as there is sometimes quite a limited selection of organic food, and many things are not in stock. Would be interesting to see what sort of meals you could create! 😀
Another great video. I love just going along shopping with you both. Really great on a budget, but I like the idea of you getting stuff from the vegan section that might be a little more indulgent or convenient and then reviewing them! 😁
Thank you for letting me live through you and your grocery store videos. 😅 I’m in Columbus, Ohio, USA and the stores in my area have been out of basics like half&half, carrots, eggs for MONTHS now. 😢 Produce sections are all sad and either rotten or just empty.

I really appreciate the effort you put into these recipes, can't wait to see the recipes! with these current prices I'm sure this stuff would cost over 40 euros for me here :( but I know this is just a guide (and this isn't a complain to you!)
Oh i love these videos ❤ super looking forward to the meals you‘re gonna cook. But I would appreciate if you would just shop the regular stuff, not the reduced ones, cause it really makes a difference 🙃 thank you, very excited for the recipes!
When I lived in the UK particularly Tesco always had a well stocked reduced section - Sainsbury's too later in the evening. I don't think using the reduced items is a problem for those living in the UK. Here in Germany it's not so easy.
I enjoy these shopping videos, even tho they leave me...gobsmacked as you guys say. The prices are so reasonable compared to here in the states, everyone here are complaining about food prices. I really like the series and everything, I am just amazed how much plastic there is in UK shops! 😦In Poland you could buy many of those greens loose, you would then just take the amount you need and you can pack it in your own bag, which means less waste and also less plastic. I just wonder why there is such a huge difference. Anyways, thanks for your content and greeting from PL! :)
Can’t believe you got all that for such a low price. Here in Canada it’s been so expensive. I mostly just buy frozen veggies now & stock up when there’s a sale. We’ve had to cut back on alot of our favourites & switched to store brands.
Yay always loved these budget videos especially with increasing costs now been looking forward to this new series. Thank you Olivia also think you were glowing and have great skin in this video, if you’re doing anything different would really love an updated routine or perhaps cheap diy facial and hair routine ideas if you have any? Cause your hair looks so healthy. And love your cardigan too 💓
Why is the fun vegan food section at my Tesco so tiny yours looks amazing- a video would be great, as part of budgeting I have been switching from takeaways to ready meals (first world problem I know….) so reviews would be cool 😊
Really helpful tips for getting bang out of your buck! Good job that Alex was helping with shopping, as Maddy, you were possibly feeling a bit self-conscious and flustered by talking while being filmed…. I would be the same! You did a really FANTASTIC job, anyway!
I’m always shocked at the packaging in the produce sections at other grocery stores around the world. I’m in the US and I shop at Winco and you can get almost any produce item not in plastic packaging. So it’s kind of a culture shock to see all the plastic!😂

Can’t believe you got all that for such a low price. Here in Canada it’s been so expensive. I mostly just buy frozen veggies now & stock up when there’s a sale. We’ve had to cut back on alot of our favourites & switched to store brands.
We are in Nova Scotia, I agree, would be easily $200 or more for this grocery shop.
Will definitely put it on my list!
Beautiful video. I am from Greece. I am not vegan, but I like your video.😊
@Ms_MadeleineOlivia Thank you very much. What exactly do you want. My name and my address in Greek.
Thanks for another great video 😀🌱👌
Really helpful tips for getting bang out of your buck! Good job that Alex was helping with shopping, as Maddy, you were possibly feeling a bit self-conscious and flustered by talking while being filmed…. I would be the same! You did a really FANTASTIC job, anyway!
I’m always shocked at the packaging in the produce sections at other grocery stores around the world. I’m in the US and I shop at Winco and you can get almost any produce item not in plastic packaging. So it’s kind of a culture shock to see all the plastic!😂
It’s to prolong its shelf life in order to stop food waste.
I love this vlog ❤️ in Greece vegan food is very expensive hehe
Tesco is my fav go to shop. So much to choose from for plant based foods ^_^
This looks amazing! Can't wait to see the meals. Do you have a shopping list for the shop?
Great video!
It’s so interesting to see UK prices. This would be at least $100 where I live in Canada.
I'm a vegetarian but some time I do love to eat plant based food
This haul looks DELicious. Cannot wait to see all the recipes 😍😍😍
fabulous video vibes❤
Thank you very much and that was very helpful and more this video 😊
You look lovely in red! ♥️
