Body cam video shows fatal police-involved shooting in Ohio hospital

- Officers conducting a routine pat-down of a man in a hospital emergency room in suburban Columbus, Ohio found a gun in his waistband, spurring a struggle over the weapon and a standoff that ended in officers killing him, according to police body camera footage released Wednesday.
Officers had been searching Miles Jackson, a Black man, at the hospital Monday in preparation for a custody exchange over warrants he had out for his arrest. Jackson began to struggle with the two officers after one of them felt the gun, video showed.
One of the officers used a stun gun on Jackson after they fell to the floor, while the other attempted to pull Jackson's hands away from his waistband. A shot can then be heard in the video, apparently from the gun in Jackson's waistband.
The officer who stunned Jackson took cover outside of the room. The other officer appeared to return fire at Jackson once before taking cover behind a hospital bed, video showed.
Officers shouted for minutes at Jackson, 27, to raise his hands and put them on his head. An officer eventually used a stun gun for a second time on Jackson, who was on his side on the hospital room floor. Another shot can be heard in the video before officers opened fire.

I agree, & you can't see anything over the bed while the suspect & cop were in the floor. Even the body cam if the female officer in the hallway doesn't completely show it all.
With all the police in the hallway why didn't any of their body cams show what was happening on the floor in front of them because the body cam of the cop didn't show anything.

A second officer noticed it during a second pat down and the firearm somehow went off..... Well if I recall correctly, this is a cut from a much longer video. I believe that in the original video, the gunfire lasts a little longer and they tell him multiple times to drop the gun prior to shooting him. It sort of defeats the purpose of having body cameras when it’s becoming more and more obvious that they will censor and edit the video to portray what they want it to. This shooting was justified but it could have been avoided by following proper protocol.

The end of the video where the suspect is seen pointing the gun at officers is being portrayed differently at CBS news. Here's an excerpt that fails to clarify later what actually happened..."At one point in the video, Jackson tells officers that he "dropped it" and says he's scared to move because he doesn't want to get shot."

OK one of the news reports told the audience that the same two officers pad him lightly but did not go through the whole body search. It might be a violation of sort. But given that officers pad down people so often, it is destined that sometimes they just skip some routines. And this time they did not do proper search and a man with a gun was admitted to ER, putting many at risk.

I’m not defending the cops but he was actually in the wrong. He should’ve gave the officers his hand but he choose not to which made it more difficult he should’ve just listen and gave the officers his hand so they can continue to search him. If he would’ve listen he would’ve never got tased or shot and he made himself seem like he was carrying a weapon when he didn’t show his other hand. This was all his fault.

I need to see all the police body cams in all angles. They only showed a small portion of the cam of one police in the hall way and that showed him holding one hand up. The majority of the video shows the angle of the officer where The bed is blocking the view of the man so we couldn’t see if he was complying or not from that angle. From what the man was saying he was scared to move. I couldn’t tell if the man open fire first or not... If you going to release one video release them all..

This was a justified shooting if a criminal who refused to put both of his hands up..at one point the criminal seems to argue he can’t move his arm .but he could have moved his body

Clean shooting, yes! Also could have been prevented. This isn’t the full video. In the original video the guy was searched by officers before being transported by ambulance. A proper search by officers would have prevented this incident.
I am not disputing what you said, but there are several types of clips that allow the weapon to rest beside your groin. Most officers don’t feel comfortable grabbing some guys junk so it difficult to discover the weapon or contraband. Years ago a female partner, gave me a sign and asked me to finish the body search of a subject. He had wrapped contraband around his groin to imitate his body parts. Long story short I discovered it and before the comedians comment, yes it was very uncomfortable for me to do a search that thorough. But yes it does happen

No one can argue with the cops self defense in this case. They were very nice to him when they were getting him to go with paramedics to the hospital and asked him to put both his hands over his head many times.

It looked like the final gunshot before the full on gunfire killing the suspect came from the officer’s gun that was still in the room. Don’t really care because the guy purposely didn’t comply trying to get hold of the weapon so he needed to be put down. Case closed.

How many of those bullets came from Miles' gun?? Could he really have been shooting at the cops with the hand he was laying on while he's bleeding out? Why would he even have bothered to put his one hand up? It seems like he tried to get the gun out of his pocket in an attempt to surrender it and it accidentally fired from a combination of him being incredibly high and the officer pushing/pulling on his arms or from being tased and having his muscles tense up. I know as a sober person it doesn't make sense to reach for a gun when the police are telling you to freeze but honestly none of this guy's actions the whole encounter made sense. Despite his stupor he didn't seem very confrontational or violent, just confused/bad judgement from being so high. I don't think it took that many cops firing at him once he was already on the ground, they never gave him a chance to respond. It's hard to see most of what's happening from this video though. IDK why they didn't have him handcuffed to the gurney the whole time(regardless of weapons he could have easily fell being that intoxicated) or not check his pockets before bringing him in the ambulance? Their judgement seems nearly as off as the intoxicated person.
