Just give 2024 a year or 2 to mature, and nobody will be debating which looks better. It's good to remember that 2020 in week 1 (or even year 1) was nothing like the 2020 we know and love today.
100%. I actually have been pretty disappointed - it looks more 'gamey' in many cases, and oversharpened. somehow the colors in this video make it look better in 2024 but in reality, in a lot of lighting conditions, I think 2020 wins.
When flying cruise level (like FL340) MSFS2020 looks way better in my opinion. For some reason the ground texture resolution in 2024 seems to be very blurry. The LOD seems to be decreased as well in 2024. There is a big thread in the MSFS2024 Forum online. A lot of people have these issues right now…
I’ve read some the same, not sure if true but I heard with the world data loads on the server in first week they dialled back the ground textures from height and May introduced them back overtime as things stabilise - we see, then also some areas have better look than others in 24. However clouds & lighting are better in 24 - also Jorge said that being able to download & store aircraft locally instead of streamed was meant to be in for launch but didn’t make it - (like a lot of things didn’t) the whole thing was rushed to meet a date some exec picked I’m sure. But nothing we can do about it now - it’s always a shame when a loved project is rushed out - and then we have wait but with so much ambition and world size I guess always likely - we have see which each month brings

Fs2024 has waaayyy to many trees, Cambridge (uk) for example, taking off out of Marshall's airport looks like the city has been built in a forest. @grahamdougherty actually since writing this post performance has improved slightly, I use TAA and its abit better than when fs2024 was released. But still nowhere near fs2020 performance. I dont like how fs2024 has awful clarity in vr compared to 2020. I'm getting 80fps with the quest 3 in fs2020, very smooth, about 55 to 65 fps in fs2024 and stuttery, 55 to 65 fps might sound good but it's not good in vr, My specs are watercooled intel 14900k, rtx 4090, 32gig ram, ssd drive. it takes quite a long time to get vr setup if you have never used vr before but its incredible, I cant play on a monitor anymore, it's just not the same.

Lots of nauance, like flying over the Hearst mansion and seeing a highly detialed model. Iceland looks fantastic. As many bugs as it has, I can't to back to 2020.
Honestly 2024 isn't much of a visual upgrade from 2020 from what I can see. Using both sims at ultra settings, I found that in some parts 2024 looks better and in some places 2020 looks better. The only real improvement in visuals is at night to be honest. 2024's night environment is definitely an upgrade compared to 2020. Even though 2024 has seasons, I've found Rex AccuSeason doing a better job at portraying seasons than 2024...Ouch. All my opinions though and I know a lot of others will disagree. To each their own.
the guy in the video compared prepared scenery, not autogen. So the video is useless. Watch videos when they show autogen lands and there's literally no difference at all. For me, it’s a plane simulator first and most of the planes and avionics are broken in some way. Not happy. I can’t believe much testing was done here as the issues are too obvious.
The inibuilds aircraft are excellent? All the avionics in the default aircraft are vastly improved. Fenix is also available in 2024? I think you’re just being pointlessly negative. A big problem for the areas I like to fly in 2020 is the wonky white balance of the terrain texture. Some places vegetation looks blue gree and other places warm greem. Stone mountains look warm grey and not neutral anywhere. It's still there in 2024 from what I can see here. Overall much better though.
There's no doubt certain areas look a lot better (from what I've seen in videos), but some of the countryside visuals seem a bit to bright green and the brown shades seem a bit weird. There were similar issues in 2020 where colours were off, so I tweaked my GPU settings to my liking, and I'm sure the same could be done with 2024. Still to me the number one concern is my Internet speed, and I'm not going to jump until I'm happy that will be sufficient, either through optimisations or being able to locally store various sim features and/or aircraft.
I think I am one of the few who actually love 2024 at the moment. yes, there are bugs o plenty...but so was 2020 when it was launched. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I fly helis and the low and slow feels and looks so much better.
Well, with 2020 version I have around 70 mods. It makes very realistic for normal flights ( airport to airport). No need for the terrible streaming issues for the airport to show up in ultra settings. I. only use FAA in the settings to get perfect sharpness of the flight instruments. And I have "modified" the Nvidia driver to my liking: the fps went up 3x and still looks great. 30fps to 90fps! Yes, 2024 version is nice to "walk around" with and look at the nature! Amazing fast to get started with 2024 version, perhaps around 15 min to buy, download and install and go for a "walk". I got the steam version.
There was a significant improvement in the Grand Canyon in 2024, while other mountain ranges remained largely unchanged. If Microsoft Flight Simulator can make the mountains around the world as delicate as Google Earth, then I think there will be many, many people buying Microsoft Flight Simulator software. thank you!
@@peterregan8691 Yes it replaces all Asobo default textures. But if you use like me the pro (payware) version you'll have very high resolution textures. In pro version you can set the altitude (VFR flight) where it will not replace asobo textures. (under 3000' for me)

The Bing maps draw both games down in many places. Especially since Bing has this weird blue-green grass. Would be nice if the games could color correct for that, and put vegetation in a color palette that can appear in the regional biome.
Thanks for this video. Some striking differences between the two sims. Presumably you are running your system in the UK (?without a VPN). Are the early problems with server load that caused problems rendering scenery etc now a thing of the past? I want to download and run the sim but don't want the frustration of running into lots of teething issues. Thanks again.
Ive gone back to cloud gaming MSFS 2020, less space taken on SSD, a lot less bugs, no weird light blue squares and triangles in the air when u pause the game, no annoying blue brackets floating midair telling you where to go, no weird incidents when taking off/landing a cessna. And best of all deleting 2024 has given me enough room for Indy in a few weeks! Maybe once they sort it out and i get bored of Indiana il give 24 another go! To be fair ive not noticed much difference on 24 vs 20 apart from the fact that the graphics load in in 2020.... 😂
Wow. You seriously had the stones to put WOW in the video title and the first thing you show us is the same melted terrain but masked with a lot of trees.
I think you must be ill if you think 2024 looks worse than 2020. MSFS 2024 does have photogrammetry issues at the moment but once they are sorted we’ll be away! It’s evident MSFS has brought you to this hobby and if you come from what we had in the past you wouldn’t moan at single bit
@@TheGadgetbadger And I think you can't read if you think I think it looks worse. Plus you're completely wrong. I've been a flight simmer for 35 years, getting heavily into FSX.
@@swoop1352 my apologies, so why does that terrain annoy you? MSFS 2024 atmospheric and flight model are a good bit better and the world (when it streams correctly) looks a good bit better than 2020 and leagues in fact universes better than anything else on the market
If you had produced this video without the labels and let viewers cast votes, how many of them would they have guessed right?. It would be interesting to fly over the 13,000 ft Mauna Loa crater on the island of Hawaii. In 2020 it is densely forested despite the fact that there are no trees on Hawaii above 8,000 ft.
Microsoft put a lot of work into the Grand Canyon then invited streamer influencers to a promo wowing them buying positivity. I'm not sold on 2024 and the more I see of it it's current incarnation the less likely I am to buy in. MS doesn't give a shit for the hard core simmers. They see MSFS as a game and for every simmer who declines moving they will get many new people to play. It's a business and they are targeting the market place.
Yeah, just had a quick look. Madeira approach should look like a suburban area. This looks like a forest. It looks good don't get me wrong, but it is everywhere this green assault.
Only thing stopping me taking the leap into 24 is remapping all my hardware (even though it should be easy for me as I use Spadnxt), I just CBA at the moment. But dang it looks good.
Tried FS2024 again today and it was back to post apocalyptic scenery due to lack of server bandwidth (and messages to that effect). I know I can only get 76Mbps where I live but that was sufficient for streaming at 4K Full Ultra during the Tech Alpha and on the 2 (out of many) occasions it has streamed well since launch. Thin Client is a dreadful idea, and I say that as someone who has retired from the industry. Offline downloads can't come soon enough.
I would wait longer unless you simply cannot wait and have nothing else - but maybe unlike other game studios we know just like 29 this will be worked on always as 20 had constant world and sim updates - as standard practice
It's actually really good too that we can use add ons for city scapes, which I think are some of the poorest areas in the sim. Orbx does some beautiful ones for Sydney, Dubai, Seattle and Singapore (to name a few.) Fenix A320 series and the Cow DA42 are also solid planes, now flyable in MSFS2024. I've had wonderful performance in VR so far
How many times we have to compare Msfs 2020 with 2024 using the Gran Canyon????? Why don't you all make video comparing them with standard cities.... African area for example or Eastern area?
I have already uninstalled 2020. I did that after the first flight. Couldn't really point to a single reason why it was just that the world seemd a bit uninteresting and "missing" something. That night shot with the lights over the city and the ground stuff I think was it. 2020 and it's planes just don't hit like they used to. Bring on the 2024 bugs!
Comparing the grand canyon doesn't seem quite fair since it was a specialized area in 2024. And for me personally 24 doesn't look better then 2020, most of the time the ground is a blurry mess. It has its moments for sure but it just isn't consistent yet.
So 2020 showed buildings which I presume were based on some reality that they existed then 2024 completely wipes them out with trees. Something terribly wrong here.
Most have had a few wows even on my crappy 970 flying over my local area I was wow - I with you on bugs, UI, career is a bug fest and designed for kids atm, but as 20 had world and sim updates I look forward to those for 24 - only 1 patch since launch isn’t good enough though but I think they. Got caught out
I have to put it in medium in 2024 vs high/ultra in 2020. The prop visuals are not as good in 2024. Try landing a 152 at night with your landing lights on. (Can't see through the prop) On my computer, ground textures disappear around the plane and as you move forward the bare patches move with you. Totally not what I see in your video. Taxiway blue lights are visible miles away and not realistic. I will give it more time.
Are you unwell? Clouds are much more realistic in 2024, we actually have correct cloud types now, they are vastly more realistic. And Aircraft!? Are you insane????? The included aircraft in 2024 are vastly better than the default 2020. Developers are already porting their aircraft. Stuff like this takes time
Everything in msfs 2024 is scammed due to low graphics, experiences, and focusing on airplane except for all the transportation as well from msfs 2020.
Here we go, the typical youtuber that buys an unfinished game day 1, trying to convince himself that he didn’t spend money on an useless thing, now, if we are actually being serious, the flight model isn’t improved at all, lots of bugs, and let’s not forget, the cloud! The biggest joke in the comedy show, stretched textures? Ok fine you are gonna deal with pixelated textures that are gonna bother you even more, the fps are shit, even on a 4070, and I still don’t know how people glaze the Microsoft team, they are a bunch of 40-60 year olds that never flew planes in their lives, if I’m gonna be honest, buy sims that are made by actual pilots (X-Plane) or sims that are made by actual aircraft manufacturers (p3d) I doubt that you are gonna get your ppl in a sandbox game.
that's a bad comparision. You are comparing prepared scenery. You should compare autogen scenery and that in fact is not different at all. So you can delete this video since it's useless.
@@Rowan66109 as you can see, the Edinburgh looks really dope in 2020 and it's autogen, they added wheat or whathever the field is having and that's the only difference there. I was literally referring to all other examples in the video except edinburgh

I dont know. For some reason when I play on xbox , 2020 looks better. 2024 the map is still outdated, blurry and missing bridges. And the whole streaming thing is not that great. I've flown mostly in SE Asia and i can tell you in 24 they have much better details in terms of photogrammetry and landscape.
Yep, in the UK and no longer using a vpn. Much more stable now!
Thanks for this info. Perhaps it's time for me to dip my toe in the water!
@@marronnier17 They claim their servers are now working at 99.999% reliability if that's any reassurance.
But yes, close up wow, 5:15 the difference is stunning with these higher DEMs
Wow. You seriously had the stones to put WOW in the video title and the first thing you show us is the same melted terrain but masked with a lot of trees.
WOW
🤣🤣🤣 so true
Even with the many flaws, 2024 IS graphically much better! Grand Canyon is just amazing.
Maybe you should talk about addons that use the google maps or apple plan for the scenery.
Tks for the video btw, n°1 in FS2024!
2:07 do think they need to tune the Tree revolution down a bit. It is almost like agriculture has been eradicated from existence.
But dang it looks good.
yup me too!
I cant wait. Im gonna get msfs 2024 in a week
Don’t, get p3d
I would wait longer unless you simply cannot wait and have nothing else - but maybe unlike other game studios we know just like 29 this will be worked on always as 20 had constant world and sim updates - as standard practice
Why dont you show some cities ?
Partner is getting me a xbox x for Christmas and can't make my mind up to get 2020 or 2024 due to the problems
4:24 202020
It's actually really good too that we can use add ons for city scapes, which I think are some of the poorest areas in the sim. Orbx does some beautiful ones for Sydney, Dubai, Seattle and Singapore (to name a few.) Fenix A320 series and the Cow DA42 are also solid planes, now flyable in MSFS2024. I've had wonderful performance in VR so far
At this time I didn't see any kind of seasons in MsFs 2024, maybe I'm wrong but this is not obvious for now, maybe later ?
How many times we have to compare Msfs 2020 with 2024 using the Gran Canyon????? Why don't you all make video comparing them with standard cities.... African area for example or Eastern area?
At least eight more times
1:30 too many damn trees. Come on. It's ridiculous.
At 30k feet do I care how trees look
Yes would be great if my textures weren’t an unrendered blocky mess
The Grand Canyon honestly looks way better in 2024
yes because it has been prepared like some other sceneries, autogen scenery is no different from 2020.
runways still too clean. i know runways are well maintained, but safe levels or erosion and age marks are expected
So 2020 showed buildings which I presume were based on some reality that they existed then 2024 completely wipes them out with trees. Something terribly wrong here.
1:24 2020 looks better
Better colors, trees
Aren't some areas in 2024 'hand crafted'? From what I've seen, 2024 is only better where there's been human attention.
There really is no wow.. need to show ALL the bugs people are getting how almost 70% just on steam "do not recommend".
(Can't see through the prop)
On my computer, ground textures disappear around the plane and as you move forward the bare patches move with you. Totally not what I see in your video.
Taxiway blue lights are visible miles away and not realistic.
I will give it more time.
MSFS 2027 fix the controller issues !!!!!!!! It's a Nightmare
Fly more GA and u will notice the difference a lot more...
sometimes it's too lush
Am I taking crazy pills? 2020 looks better. 2024 looks like Far Cry terrain engine, way too green.
The nature areas look far better than 2020. But the cities looks horrible.
Me watching this knowing I only have FSX 😭
You can got 2024 with game pass
@@AVO3331🥲
Tbh I’m seriously contemplating a return to FSX or a switch to P3D, you’re not missing much 😅
@@michaeldob3874why? Care to justify?
@@TheGadgetbadgerp3d is better, it has loads of payware addons and all of them are good, not like the shit that’s in msfs2020/24
Ground detail better on 2024, clouds and aircraft much better on 2020.
Are you unwell? Clouds are much more realistic in 2024, we actually have correct cloud types now, they are vastly more realistic. And Aircraft!? Are you insane????? The included aircraft in 2024 are vastly better than the default 2020. Developers are already porting their aircraft. Stuff like this takes time
Clouds are basically the same with the addition of cirrus clouds, but the aircraft are definitely better in 2024
2024 is the worst with 2020 running much smother and addons kills 2024
So the ground textures on a random field near Edinburgh is prepared?
@@Rowan66109 as you can see, the Edinburgh looks really dope in 2020 and it's autogen, they added wheat or whathever the field is having and that's the only difference there. I was literally referring to all other examples in the video except edinburgh
2024 is awful. It's a downgrade (for now).
2024 looks way better, it has issues but it looks way more realistic. Anyone who disagrees is either a) blind b) 14 years old with a 2060 and just jumping on the bandwagon.
true 🥔💻. 😂😂😂
I dont know. For some reason when I play on xbox , 2020 looks better. 2024 the map is still outdated, blurry and missing bridges. And the whole streaming thing is not that great. Planes pop in airports on the ground as your flying by. Tress are growing on roads and in places where they dont belong. It's not a huge upgrade graphically.
