    Until I see you again......
When someone dies everyone always says what a great person they were, how much they are going to be missed and yada yada yada.
The Columbus area lost one of the BEST men I have ever known. James Wilke was not only a GREAT all around guy, he was a GREAT family man and he was AMAZINGLY strong in his faith and God.
It is no surprise to anyone that knew James that when he got the phone call to assist emergency responders in rescuing a complete stranger from flood waters his answer would be yes.
James got on his tractor like he has 100’s if not 1,000’s of times before and he headed down the road. This time would end differently though, he would never return home.
With the guidance of emergency responders James drove his tractor over the Shell Creek bridge on the Monestary Road and the bridge gave out. James and the tractor went down into the flood water below.
James’ body was recovered later in the afternoon along the creek bed close to their home. Those who know James know it was his way of telling his wife, family and friends goodbye and that he is “home”.
Not all HEROES wear capes or uniforms. I know a TRUE HERO who wore a T-shirt, blue jeans, work boots and drove a John Deer Tractor.

Spencer Slezewski That is very true it’s to bad. I saw something in the news that a farmer said he had 700 pigs and he had only been able to get 14 back. That’s 2%! It’s all his money just lost.

    • @chipwinningham5515
      @chipwinningham5515 5 лет назад

I will be happy to give the like, but PLEASE don't tie the prayer count to the like count. If people are busy or simply miss this post, the people are still in need of as many prayers that we can send their way! Everyday those families are going to discover a "new" catastrophe and it is one more thing to put on the list of what they lost. PLEASE, PLEASE keep a close eye on each other as this is a mental mountain that when you get to the top of the first one, all you can see is more mountains that are ever greater than the one you just climbed. If you get a feeling that something is amiss with a friend, don't call them out just find any reason you can to make sure they are not alone. Accidents seem to go up in times like these because everyone is doing a plethora of things that would not need done usually. It's very easy to understand how something tragic could take place as it may have been the only time he/she ever completed a task like that one. I say this out of experience as I lost a close family member and it looked truly like an accident. I began to question whether it was an accident at all when I began to clean up in the house. Every financial document that he was responsible for was spread all over the computer room and most were stamped "past due" or last chance before we will have no choice but to come and repossess the tractor and other equipment listed below. Seeing all of this made me sick, so I know he had to be a mess. He never said a word, never let me see how bad it was. That night his wife found him in the barn with his John Deere tractors and a can of wax the tractor never looked better! When the phone rang I knew it was her before I answered phone, then it was my turn to be a mess.

I’ve been making strips in the fall for beans on some really heavy soils to try and make the transition a bit easier... hope it works out for ya....I’ve been going to more track machines and larger tires on equipment over the last few years and that has helped as well

    2. Round up soaks into Midwest and rises in CA as fodder for lawsuits
    3. Coddle your beans with a Draper
    4. Corn makes a better beer. Miller Lite! Amen!
    5. Foot of snow (melting) in MN signals spring
    6. Support your fellow American in IA, NE, and MO. Don’t wait for them to ask because they won’t.

Hey Zach, for what it's worth, I've done some aerial videos with explanations of some of the flooded communities. It should give some scale of the flood with a few before/after shots on one of the vids. There's 4 videos. I should say, the first one was done before I realized the scale of the situation so it is a little more lighthearted. We have seen floods before. It wasn't until our tiny town was isolated away from groceries and gas that we began to grasp the scale.

It’s great to hear that you’re trying no till. I currently strip till corn and no till drill soybeans with pretty good success. I think a spring striptill system would work great for you especially since youre planting 30” inch row beans. You could band your p/k with a low disturbance applicator for corn and beans in the fall and run a dawn pluribus ahead of the planter in the spring. You could apply n for corn with that pass too.

Thanks for your thoughts, I have some ground down by the Offut runway which is currently under 10/12' of water. Luckily I happen to move a couple pieces of equipment off that property last fall so all I have is the flooded farm ground. I'm very lucky compared to my neighbors who have lost almost everything. They only had about an hour to get out. One neighbor got most of his large equipment out but a lot he could not.
I'm still hoping to get something planted late this spring but we will have to see what mess we have when the water recedes. We still have to get the snow melt from up North down the Missouri, we might get flooded again. Two years ago we had a tornado, people were just getting rebuilt from that when this hit.

Good vid Zac, as for your idea on a fan mail focused series or such I would say it's a good idea and I believe it lines up well with what your intentions were when you started this but if I may I would just give you a word of caution against over exerting yourself with it because while it is a good idea as you've learned on the backside it could add a whole lot of work on top of what you already do and burn you out faster.
You're doing well so far and I hope it keeps going.

I delivered this morning 17 big bags with seeded potatoes from West Edmonton Alberta Canada to Long Prairie Minnesota. They will start seeding potatoes in one month. But in 2012 they were seeding already.

Those 40ft flexi headers are fantastic. You probably won't even miss the old combine.

It’s a real shame that all of those farms and farm families up there have lost so much. I’m glad that you and farm focused decided to help out with the clothing sales. Being from South Carolina, we never get that kind of weather down here and I really don’t know what we would do if we got that much snow.

Our are of the Carolina's have been hit hard the past few years with hurricanes and flooding but nothing like the scale going on in the Midwest right now. There are many great groups like farm focused helping those that are effected. Many of us have a spare $20 we can put towards a shirt or some canned goods in our cupboards or clothes we don't wear in our closets. Every little bit helps.
