Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

But they'll gladly take it nevertheless and rant and rage when people in the cities get benefits. Healthcare, roads education, housing? Who needs that? Trump and the Republican party just bribed the crap out of the farm States. It's why 3 million more votes in urban America didn't count. As one who respects the hell out of the work farmers do, I resent the hell out of how the rest of the country suffers for Trump's moronic trade wars, but farmers get bribed.
Maybe, instead of preaching to America how valuable farmers are to America, maybe you should wake up and see how valuable the cities and urban America is to farmers.

That being said it’s educational to get the perspective of someone who is being directly affected by this administrations’ policies. @@herbyverstink , Will Stivers makes a great point, we have too much of this partisan political crap. This is not Democrat or Republican issue, this is an extremist issue with both sides. Zack, also makes some great points. Tariffs don't work long term. As a negotiation tool, yes they work, but long term or rather the longer they go on they hurt us, Americans in general. Unfortunately like Zack said, China has been playing dirty for decades. The issue there is Democrats and Republicans have ignored the issue because it has benefited a few areas, companies and individuals and now it is a real threat to our national security. So, don't fall in to the trap of oh, it's ALL Democrats or ALL Republicans, because that simply is not the case, it's the extremists on both sides. I agree with some of Trumps assertions, some, but others not so much. That is his problem, he acts like if people don't back him on everything they are traitors or unAmerican. I am tired of people making everything a political party issue and taking a position that everything a particular party does is great, that simply is not true. I respect Will and Zack for being moderate and willing to talk and be honest. We need to get back to working out our differences rather than yelling and screaming at each other and not really doing anything. Just saying. It's my opinion and you can disagree. Again personally I agree with Will and Zack and I don't think being middle of the road is a bad thing even though it seems to piss off a lot of people.( I voted for Trump, but I won't be voting for him again. Despite the fact I agree with him that we have had our head in the sand on a few areas, he doesn't have the temperament to be President to put it professionally. We need someone who isn't bat shit crazy to put it bluntly. Someone who can debate the issues, change people's minds and be open to changing their position as well if the facts so warrant it and willing to put Americans first. Maybe they do already but if not they need to start! I have absolutely no problem with supporting farmers at all! We need to do what ever it takes to do that! 😊👍👍

Excellent explanation regarding trade, government intervention & the business of farming Zack... Plus you deliver better weather forecasting than our local weather-caster's around here... We're planting silage corn & grain corn for export... Nobody is planting soybeans... Temp's in the 50's at night & upper '60's during the day...Steady showers expected throughout the week... The weather you get, we get 2-days later in Central New York...only a bit warmer...

Your political views shouldn’t make anyone like you or dislike you in any way shape or form. You are correct China plays dirty and they need to be called out on it. Unfortunately for you and a lot of other farmers you are the ones who are gonna take on the chin the worst. Most folks don’t realize just how tight the margins of finance are in farming and how incredible volatile farming is as a business. Ultimately a more balanced trade will be good for our country but for ever action comes an equal and opposite reaction. Hang in there this to shall pass. Keep up the great videos.

A littel background first: I'm european (so maybe I've got a bit of an outside perspective on the whole thing, I don't know) currently studying economics at university and I'm writing a paper on chinese economy including the current trade situation with the US.
I'll make it short. First of all, the theft of intellectual property by chinese enterpises. That's a big problem, worldwide, has been for years, but it's slowly getting a bit better.
The trade deficit and the tariffs are enormously comlicated and big topics. The deficit is somewhat homemade with many companies setting up shop in China (and other asian markets) to produce there, because it's cheaper. Well leave that in place for a couple of years and it will and has spiraled out of control to the point where we currently are. Again, worldwide problem, not just for US. The tariffs... well the tariffs. There's pros and cons here. China has huge amounts of resources like steel, aluminum and rare earth. Some of that stuff is really hard to source elswhere so putting tariffs on that achieves nothing but making things more expensive for US consumers. Tariffs on agricultural products just made china buy them from diffrent markets like South America or Africa (where they're just buying the farmland alltogether). I could go on (15 pages into my paper currently). Sure, China has been playing dirty in the past and will continue to do so in the future, but what we should not forget is, that they haven't been open to foreign trade for that long (they started to slowly open up in the early 80s) and that they are still a communist (one party regime) country with a 5-year-plan based economy that is at times a little slow to respond to outside influences. And of course they retaliatet with tariffs on their own what else were they supposed to do?
A global alliance or help from the WTO to resolve the situations (because most of them aren't exclusively US problems) would have been a little wiser, but what do I know. I guess it's a bit too late for that anyways, considering the slowly smouldering thing that might escalate into a US-EU trade war...
Sometimes the tool needed in global trade negotiations is a pair needlenose-pliers to apply a little pressure until things loosen up, but the man currently running your country routinely uses a hammer and a crowbar. This used to work and maybe still does, but sometimes a little more finesse is needed. (No offense to anyone supporting him, but an outsiders view on him is just not very flattering at times)
(also, unrelated, but there are broad similarities to the economic situation in china in the early 19th century. A country feels like it imports to much out of china and exports too little into china tries to resolve the situation to come out on top. In the early 1800s it was GB that wanted to export more into china and started trading them opium by the shipload until the chinese economy was crippled and many of their people opium addicted. China wanted to do somehting and long story short the opium wars happend and china had to give up Hong Kong to GB and opoen 5 port cities for outside trade)
Also on that political middle comment. I feel you. Sometimes both sides hate you, that's just how it is.
Loving your content and hoping the weather changes to your advantage soon.
    Cheers,
    Jakob
Edit: Also supply chains. Never underestimate how fragile some supply chains are. A little bit of additional cost at the very beginnig of your supply chain (raw materials or small partial products) and it might trickle down the whole chain and either break it or cause a massive price increas at the end (imagine a whip, a very small flick at the base makes the end of a very long whip go quite fast)

      Mostly agree
      Apart from China's natural resources
Most of them are sourced else where
A much percentage come from Australia ( my home)
South America and Russia are big payers as well
The traffis on farming produce between the US and China were pushing Aus grain prices off the chart
Great for me as a farmer
But the more traffis they add the more it starts filtering down to us as a major provider of raw material,s of every kind from steel and lithium to wheat and milk
They're trying to only presure China but itssending dangerous ripples throughout the world economy

    • @timesthree5757
      @timesthree5757 4 года назад +1

Unfortunately the bearing has rusted their for so long a hammer is the only tool needed at this time.. Fact is it a trade war. It is going to hurt before it gets better. Other Presidents have been ignoring the prob. I'm just glad something is doing something. Doing something, to me, is still a lot better than doing nothing.

I've been amazed to actually watch someone operate a planter this year! Here in E. Central IN it's hard to just mow the grass it has been so wet. No thought of getting fert. or spray on anything. Even the Amish couldn't get their early plowing completed for the rain and it hasn't stopped. If it stopped raining today, it would still be the first week of June before anyone could start planting. And rain is in the forecast almost every day for the next week - maybe longer. Just a few years ago the same thing happened but it was drying up by now and planters rolled the beginning of June. I think it will be later this year. Maybe we should be considering cranberry bogs or rice!

Fbn, cool rain good for planted crop not good for wet empty fields. Love the 80's reference to The Govenator. Got some corn 🌽 last year not treated with pesticides, from a farm. And we were warned about worms (none). But came home 150 miles and found caterpillar on outside leaf. Corn was the best I ever had.
