As a Voli main one of the things that I appreciate the most is that his in game model is freaking huge, Im serious he has the biggest champ model, excluding cho after he chomped some people. So building the mythic item that gives sizes is sooo cool for me who likes the big chonks
I love that that item also gives increased size, it's a really nice touch

his model darkening his shorter and less detailed lower body while focussing alot on his upper body help accentuate his size

Fun fact: Volibear have two CANON looks, Classic and Thousand Pierced Bear. First one is form that shows strength of Freljord's nature, while the second one, more eldritch, shows form of terror of battle. Volibear is Spirit God (like Anivia, Ornn (who are his siblings - there also few more like Boar and Sister of Seals) and also Janna and Kindred) and thus his form can change based on what is image of him in minds of his followers. Very similar thing happenes with Kindred (as Spirit Blossom skin is Ionian form of Kindred) and Fiddlesticks who is Ur-Demon, the strongest of all demons (Spectral, Risen, Pumpkinhead, Fiddle Me Timbers).
The Rune Guard skin shows him in the armor his brother Ornn made for him, too!
spirit blossom skins are not canon looks for characters, they are all ionian gods who are separate from the champ but are added as skins for them based on who fits the god.
for example, spirit blossom yasuo and yone are just as canon as kindred, which is to say they arent

Hell yeah! He's one of the most fair champions IMO. Even if you get shit on by AD Sion, it feels fair. You can see his abilities coming from a mile away, and hear him ulting even if he's not in your lane. If Sion can hit you/land his full combo, it's entirely your fault.

Sion is the perfect tank by design. Two well telegraphed abilities with long cast times that are very strong when fully casted.
@@ahubb21 sion players have to use misdirection/suprise to land their damaging abilities on the offensive, making him a more defensive tank, who zones off enemies, splits the fight down the middle, and can engage with his r to scatter the other team

I suck so I can't say much, but how do you, as a melee auto attacker like Jax, contest voli in lane or even step up to take cs, if the bear can stat check you with autos alone by virtue of his passive?

My favorite part of Volibear how his gameplay reflects his lore so much.
He rejects weapons and man-made creations to instead tear with tooth and claw. That's his Q and W. Not only are they literally tooth (W) and claw (Q), but they are treated as more or less treated as basic attacks, which are as raw and "wild" as it gets. They're also resets, so when he gets on top of you, he rips you apart with autos, Qs, and Ws, just like a wild bear might do: fast and wild.
And then outside of that, you get his godly powers with passive, E, and R. Also with his R, it embodies what Volibear becomes when his followers worship him. He becomes more massive and wreathed in lightning.
Truly a perfectly designed champion.
Volibear is perfectly designed and all but it doesn't seem that way when volibear stuns your tower for 10 years as he beat you up

To be honest I feel like all 3 of the Freljord gods are perfectly designed (after the buffs, nerfs and reworks). Ornn is perfect, Voli is, even Anivia.
Too true. Anivia just needs an updated character model, but her kit is awesome and fits embodies the essence of a Freljord character!

Are you kidding, her skill ceilling is on the floor and is supereasy to use and not hard to master at all. Especially her enigma, she isn't perfectly designed at all her kit is broken and is either losing 0/8/2 or carrying with 9/2/6
Voli ulting into his E just as it appears onto an enemy is terrifying to experience if you’re the enemy getting e ulted onto and extremely satisfying if you’re the Voli. Even if you don’t win the fight, you feel unstoppably terrifying in those first few seconds of fighting, which is a feeling not even fiddle R gets you at times. It feels like being a jackal diving onto an enemy and ravishing them before they can even respond, amazing design

When you pointed out that Volibear's q is Udyr's bearstance, I could hear the Necrit videos echoing in my mind
as an adc main i can tell you that i have some... personal issues with the title here...

As someone who mains Sion, I am curious to see which of the three video types he will appear in.
Also a sion main. It will be this or why no one plays. Sion isnt mained by many, and his mains are split between ad, bruiser, and assasin builds, but he is consistent and rarely needs riot to change hum
I mean, I have only seen Sion getting hate when the inting Sion build was at full power
He's not just a bear, HE IS THE STORM. Honestly playing him makes my spirit animal inside me go wild. The outplay potencial, the versatility to build literally any item, the animations and character itself. Old Voli was fun, and I have been main Voli for a while, but new Voli is just incredible
He feels really badass to play
As a Volibear Main I really love this video! I picked him up when I was a beginner at league and i still play him today! As a top and jgl player i can flex him in both my roles. I really love his complete kit. Its like a tool box with answers for every enemy and situation. His builds are really versatile too, you can play ap volibear and nuke enemies with e and ult or play bruiser volibear with massive damage or the classic unkillable tank build. But the most important thing: Hes a frickin giant bear how cool is that?
I remember throughout my life I’ve pictured the most badass thing I can think of and Volibear just fits that idea perfectly. A badass bear with braids, runes and badass human features who also wields lightning?!
all of the "old bad kits" that league has were all the ones they directly lifted from og dota, voli included(ursa warrior iirc), as they slowly phase them out they add that riot polish and design that theyve perfected throughout the years
I think ornn would be so good for this series in my view he's the perfect balance of skillful gameplay with brittle and ability management and not too hard for beginners to learn how he works
Ornn and balance don't go well together.
His damage is way too high to fit into this series. I think out of all tanks he actually does the most. Not to mention that he has cc on all 4 of his abilities.

Great video! Volibear has got to be my favorite character. His model and animations are eye candy, his voice acting gets me fired up for a fight, and his gameplay loop delivers on fulfilling the satisfaction of playing a mystic warrior character. (Also his lore is really good, too.) Volibear gets me excited to play more games.

I would really love to see Ufyr refereing alll the Freiljordian Gods as stances in his rework, and to be as perfectly designed as Voli
I wonder if you can make one for Shen. On the surface level, his kit looks overloaded (at least for me.) But the community said he is one of the best design champion.
I kinda disagree even if he loses lane he's still impactful with that shield and if he wins lane he can all in you if you touch a minion and counters a lot of champions with that W plus a very low CD passive shield

He is a Ninja that supposed to be an assassin but instead be a tank, perfect
He's a bit overloaded right now tbh, I love how Riot finally gave his Ult bonus HP scaling, but he is too safe in lane most of the time due to insane passive shield.
I don't feel Shen is that well designed actually. His R being global utility leaves his kit with an impossible dilemma: either he can hold his own in lane just with QWE and be overpowered as hell (current situation) or he can't and be completely useless. And to compund this problem his Q deals %max HP damage giving him free scaling all game long (maybe changing that for flat damage would be a good solution... would still make him oppressive as hell early but at least he'd fall off considerably and have his late game performance rely on proper R usage).
I like this more in-depth kit comparison, I used to play old voli a lot.

I kinda miss Volibear's flip though, such a fun ability, it had decent outplay potential too. It was funny just flipping enemies into tower but I understand that everyone has their own opinions and might not agree with my opinion

I remember the times that you one shoting people with q + e 3 autoattacks and w . That missing health percentage damage was busted but it had a long cooldown.
That’s one of the reasons i love playing singed, just play some good music, pop predator, ult, ghost, press q and go fast, and if they catch up to you just fling them and run in the opposite direction

More trouble than it was worth. And was really gimping his power budget for something he didn't need. I miss it sometimes, but i'm way happier with the new volibear. I feel like I'm doing more in combat than just auto attacking
Shen: perfectly designed
His e dash works with his q, spirit blade, to let you get the strong q
His w and e also work well with his ult, when you come out of it you can w to protect your ally and e to take the fire away from them
He also has built in weaknesses, specifically with his ult. Since you have no waveclear other than autos, you have to think ahead of time to when you might ult and fix the wave accordingly.
Overall very well designed imo, I’m sure people can come up with other reasons as well. -Shen main
Agree but i wish he has a different ult
if I could change 1 thing about shen is that whoever he ults gets a small amount of damage mitigation im talking like 15%-20%-25% scaling in that order with each point put into it most people I've ulted as Shen just end up dying because I'm trying to save the ADC but of course a assassin jumps on them and kills them before my ult finishes.

Also the Volibear teaser in howling abyss (ARAM map) was amazing and terrifying for the first few times at least.
The art design aspect with Voli is some of the best too. His voice over, animations, the SFX on his ult as he’s coming in to dunk you.
3:41 This is the most Dota fight I've ever seen in League. It lasts an eternity, starting exact mid, running throughout top-side jungle, and ending right next to red team's Nexus.
Anytime I play Dota 2 with tanks and healers on both teams, the fights will start around Radiant's Safe Lane and end somewhere at Dire's Off Lane LMAO

Why prowlers voli? Just do it, go pta, run to a squishy enemy with the q movespeed, prowlers onto them for the inmediate stun, then auto w and finally ult them, q auto w procs pta which increases damage dealt with ult
Items: since prowlers mythic passive gives lethelity, buying just prowlers and maybe youmuu/sanguine blade is enough, and then either go bruiser items, like steraks cleaver and the likes, or go on-hit items like blade of the ruined king, wits end etc

As a vanguard support main, I love seeing volibear doing exactly what I do except being twice as tanky, doing ten times more damage and having sustain.
He has a low ban rate because there are things that people lean more into, like Sett who's been ruining games since its coding was put on the game

Amazing video and an amazing champion. In my opinion best rework riot has ever done. Simple champion with some depth on every spell. Fidle despite being great rework is kinda defficult to master i mean champion without ult feels clunky. Volibear really embodies spirit of top lane. Wish there was more fair champions like him.
I'm only a month into playing league, I come from smite. Voli is legit my favorite jungle in the game. Good ability to build so many items. Outplaying tower campy laners. He's just so fun
Alr has anyone seen voli build a rift maker for sustain, nashers for auto speed, horizon for e, and death cap to top it off? The bear already has good hp, armor, and mr growth. So he’s just tanks with rift, sustained dmg from rift while also getting heals off his passive since rift gives Omni-vamp. Then the other items make him like a burst champ. So he’s like a walk time bomb that can’t be killed. So yes I agree the big bear is balanced in all ways

I'd really like to know people's opinion on rek'sai design. I feel like she's perfectly designed when it comes to champion identity. I may not be too good with her but I can still just hardfarm all game and still have fun just because of how her burrowing and tunnel mechanic feels!
Haven’t played her enough to talk about design from a balancing and fairness standpoint but as a visual design she feels amazing to play

As a Volibear Main, I couldn't be happier with this Video.
He's been my favorite Champ since release (Hence the Name), and I was so happy with his rework.
I think the best thing about new Voli is just how versatile he is. It's the same exact reason why I love Gangplank, GP can build Shieldbow, Sunderer, Duskblade, Prowlers, etc... Voli is the same, he can build Sunfire, Frostfire, Sunderer, Riftmaker, Chemtank, etc... and unlike GP where you have to stay on track with your build (If building crit, should probs keep building crit unless you need something else), Voli can just mash things together. I can build full tank then buy a Zhoynas and Banshees as well to gain some damage while still getting resistances. He has so many options, a hybrid champ, a brusier, a full tank, full AP.
Also, it's a fairly well known thing at this point, but people, go play AP Voli, it's so fun. Take Hail of Blades and late game, if you even touch the ADC or other squishies, they're just gone, you can do Night Harvester or Riftmaker, and you need Nashors. Ult has a 250% AP ratio, E scales really well, and his passive, on top of nashors, you do like 200-300 magic damage on hit late game (And each stack, up to 5 stacks, gives roughly 22-25% attack speed each), easily clearing waves, poking enemies with it before fights, etc...

Didn’t think about him as a champion in this serie but his kit (beside the q that I don’t see the link with his characters) is kinda well designed. One I could totally see here is Tahm kench such a good design but a bad champ

His Q is literally him coming up and slapping someone, are you saying if a giant bear sprinted up and slapped someone they wouldn’t be stunned?

I wanted to point out that the reason Volibear works so well, reason that you did not mention here, is that the function of Volibear as a Catch/Tower Diver (Through Q and R) is mostly separated from his tools that cement it as a Juggernaut (Through P and W). It allows him to perform his function, even against team that would not favor him.

"Volibear is the best towerdiver" and then you have the volibear I met a few days ago that ulted right outside the towerrange and then walking into tower (and dying because of course your jungle ints your lane) instead of ulting the tower. Oh and he did this not once but twice...

i build volibear ap and i see a good amount of ppl doing it too. Ofc, not full ap, but i go with riftmaker into nashors and he does INSANE dps with lethal tempo. After that i go 3 tanks items, usually force of nature and deadsman plate for the chasing potential and hullbreaker for splitpushing or gargoyle/sterak for team fighting.
I would love a "Perfectly" Designed series about 200 years champions
The only thing about Voli I don't like design wise is his not very limited chain lightning passive. It makes laning against him very punishing if you're not a major lane bully.
I would like to see Voli's passive chain between a maximum of 3 or reduce the max range between targets.
i loved the old volibear because it was just so fun to run around flipping enemies, got it to mastery 7 playing support (the passive was a godly bait). After the rework tho, ut just doesn't feel nice anymore, the lack of displacements meana that you have to really choose who and when to hold your q for if the enemy team has things like katarina etc

I think the only problem with Voli’s rework is the inclusion of static shive in his passive. If SS had survived the Season 11 item rework, it wouldn’t be as annoying to deal with, as that would allow the opposing Laner to put pressure on him during lanning phase. But thanks to the removal of it, Voli’s passive now insured that he has constant unchallenged pressure on wave clear. This is because now you either respect the passive and loose out on CS, or you ignore it, taking a substantial amount of chip damage, leaving him for an easy all in.
You forgot to mention that Voli is unstoppable during his R cast, so it gives him some outplay potential and more ways to interact with his opponent than just walking towards him like other jaggernauts

Voli is definitely one of the more enjoyable juggernauts to play, for me personally, his kit makes him a lot more appealing to some of the other juggernauts. The combination of well casted Es and the heal from the second and the bites afterwards really allows him to turn some of the worst situations around. He is definitely a super stat check champ but he always has a pretty good shot into almost anyone. Against fighters and tanks, the W does an amazing job. Against more nimble opponents, the Q helps him quite a bit and the E can be used for zoning. Most importantly, Voli’s diving potential is just out of this world. For a long time I would always worry that the Kayle or Nasus that I shutdown in lane would still scale into a monster because maybe I made a few mistakes in team fights which gave them breathing room or my team just does not want to end the game. After learning and becoming good at Voli, all of these issues are no longer present. I know for sure when I have R if I play smart enough I can dive no matter what. Voli is just super good at beating people’s faces in without having to worry about them coming back. Just overall a super solid and fun champ, but probably the same can’t be said from people playing against him.
Nothing more satisfying than running away when ur low HP and ur abilities are on cool down and the enemy thinks he’ll kill you but then you turn around, heal with W and stun them while shielding yourself for long enough to get another W heal
Strongest build i've discovered for voli was nashors, ionians, one item of bami's cinder, sterak and tank Items like thornmail, deadmans, spirit, things like that. It makes you tanky, fast autoattacking dmg dealer

I jungled a game as him not long after his rework. The enemy To tried to invade me level 2. He didn't expect me to take E at level 2 instead of Q, so I was able to get a good deal of damage and a nice shield off for a kill.
Anivia, Volibear and ornn are sibling... papa god has had some VERY drunk nights, and I thought LOKI was a bizarre father (and mother but for the love of god don't look into that).
