      I haven't read her lore, but I just had nothing against her, because I assumed everyone from Pilltower and Zaun is bat shit insane. There's literally a rat with a trenchcoat, giant hairball with a wrench and laser guns, anarchist with a minigun whoose abilities sound like sexual innuendos "GET EXCITED", a goo version of sandman, Hulk, steampunk sniper, pink hair girl with power fists and a Orcs Must Die ripoff. I think narratively Sett kits serve his purpose in Ionia, his whole character is about not fiting in (not being accepted in Ionia as a son of an enemy Noxian, not being accepted by humans/vastyas as halfbreed between). So his kit does not fit the Ionian ideal of spirituality and fluidity but borrows the Noxian ideals of power and aggression, things that Ionia do not know or crave before the Noxian invasion.

Sett's backstory and playstyle is unique enough to counterbalance the Jo Jo references, even if his shield still needs to be nerfed. His addition builds the world, involving magic vs spirituality, Noxus, Ionia, Human and Vastayan relationships, not to mention the black market and extension of fighting pits (in Ionia of all places), neatly tying back to Draven/ Riven and that pre-established world history. Sett may not be the most original champ aesthetically, until you look at him from a story perspective (as well as realize just how much of his "coat" is actually fur). He looks and plays like an anime pretty boy cuz references, but he's so much more than that when you do any research into who he is as a character/ champion.

    Having looked more into Samira's background at the behest of several comments, I stand corrected in my assessment of her background and inclusion as a Noxian. While from a backstory stance my perspective has shifted, I still stand by my points about her overloaded kit in gameplay. Sett as well, I had him listed as a champion that felt inserted awkwardly into the game, but his background as a half noxian half Ionian makes a lot of sense in the grand scheme of things. And yes, Kled has a gun, though it's not really his main weapon of choice so much as it is just (as the name implies) a pocket pistol. Just wanted to apologize for my myopic stance on it at the time of making the video. I'll be sure to be more thorough next time!

      Well Kai'sa is kassadins daughter which is a big lore drop for the void when that happened and zoe is big point in darkins aatrox lore with a bunch of targon and all the other champs also had big story points they all have made the only move forward. ONLY one that has never made a big story point or move the story forward is seraphine she had next to 0 lore and they kinda got forced to put her out for the next song / skin line. Over priced stuff and many other things that werent ok which was called out at the time and shut down mostly just a weird cash grab looking situation . Which the only champ id say fits for this entire video is seraphine the rest dont really fit since so much lore came out of all of comics to that were really good and showed more of the world advanced the story a ton and showed way more of the characters personality's what there doing now present day all that and you get 0 of that with seraphine. Yummi master might currently be the one helping with the ruined king and over half of these characters in this video have been know in the lore like samira just we never got any hard info on them tell they just got released tell later . Kayn lores mixes with zed ,shen, kayn , jhin to much lore to explain all these champs but you might want to look into all of them and there comics so you can see why they are all here same since most of these have more then 4 to 6 storys in the lore and advancing the story and world.

    To me the biggest problem with new champions is that they want to be everything. Usually champions excel at one thing and u could class them into 1 category, however a lot of recent champions go to much into other classes and that makes them very hard to balance. Take Aphelios for example, both an utility marksmen and a hypercarry marksmen, add some healing too, something that was a big no no in a marksmen kit. Then take a look at Yummi, usually enchanters have 1 big drawback, being easy to kill if they dont position right or if they get flanked, but Yummi doesnt need to think about that.

    At this point, Riot should really stop creating new champions for a while, it's too overcrowded and they are getting really weird and overloaded. They should, instead, rework all the champions that actually need it in order to bring them to the same standards new champions have. You know, better models, better skills, that sort of thing. Stoping champion creation will make for better reworks too, and they could also source some of these people for the skin team, since they are still creative oriented developers and can really boost the skin quality of ideas and such. With more people working on more skins, Riot makes more money, that they can divert into more skins and the rework efforts, possibly other things in the company too.
    Riot doesn't make as much money with champions as they do with skins, so it makes much more sense to update older champions in order to make their playerbase bigger, allow new skins to be produced and be easier to accomodate to those characters, and most importantly, whenever a new champion does show up, it will be a more refined champion, and probably have the benefit of hype with it.

    • @sinasona1229
      @sinasona1229 3 года назад +15

      I really like that idea but a lot I mean ALOT of people would hate it because there is nothing new to the game and we dont want another Akali or Aatrox in our hands. (old mains getting sad that their champ is gone and they have to deal up with the new ones) Irelia is one that changed 70% of her old kit but the new one is like an upgraded version of the old one that's why we did not hear (GIVE US OUR MAIN BACK) at all.

    • @xxOnigiri99
      @xxOnigiri99 3 года назад +13

      @@sinasona1229 I agree, but I also think most of the champions that run that risk are already reworked in that way. Riot should really just update slightly the champions that need it after concluding all reworks (like udyr, shyvana etc).
      The idea that the game won't feel fresh if we don't have nothing new is odd to me, because we have a lot of champions that people can try out (if not already) and riot can spice it with rotations modes, tweaks to items and all. Not having new champions would finally let a meta set down for more than a patch or two, and even then they still can change numbers to avoid champions breaking the game.
      I think they should grab some old champions and give them new passives that are more inline with recent champions. We don't need essays as passives, but there champions that could use some more help. For instance, Nasus passive could be moved to his Q, and he could get a new one to either help his stacking gameplay or fighting potential (more movespeed, for instance). Stuff like that

      Thats the problem with LOL nowadays...if they're gonna make a new character then how bout use that character as a swap skin--instead of a separate new champion....! take for example Seraphine could just be a character costume swap for Sona instead. (like Christie Monteiro and Eddy Gordo used to be) and now adding up more champions would only overshadow the rest of the cast that some people grew attached to like they weren't been there by the community.

    • @grosslittlegoblin1358

      Which lead to Azir, when he came out it had so much bugs they had to pull him until they fixed the copious amount of bugs.
      After that they slowed down on champions.
      We would really need that slow down again.

    Do yourself a favor: just don't count Sera when talking about Region continuity. The heads of Riot saw how popular kda was and demanded the creative teams find a way to force a popstar rather than a bard with a kda release skin into. That's literally why she exists. The problem with the new champions is that they usually have mechanics that remove their own counterplay and some of them straight up make some older champions obsolete.
    Like (no accurate number) 90% of champs released nowadays has some form of immunity, Yone can actually completely negate Malzahar R with his R (maybe even Q?), we have windwalls, shrouds, champion overtakings that make you immune etc.
    Usually you would think that you counter mobility with cc, but when mobility has the tools to remove its own counterplay that feels dumb and it is a problem imo. And Riot has pretty much thrown out the rule book when it comes to new champions, that's their problem.

    One of the biggest dropped projects by RIOT was one that I really loved: the Darkin. In less than a year, we had Kayn released (7.12.17), Varus' lore update (11.30.17), and Aatrox's rework (6.21.18). Riot was following the storyline about them needing to find the 4th of 5 Darkin, located somewhere in Shurima.
    Then, nothing.
    There have been no updates on the storyline, no news articles, no decent AskRiot posts. Nothing. Only a mention of the Darkin in Vlad's new lore but nothing to progress or flesh out the story.
    If Riot wants to add a great champ to the story line, there is so much set up already done and a great theme that Riot initially set up as the base story line at the beginning of the game.

    She also kind of borrows abilities from other champions but has a different playstyle and twist to it so it doesnt feel copy pasted into her kit.
    her q is a darius q but is meant for kiteing.
    her ult borrows zoe's sleep mechanic in a simple way.
    her e is like the global ultimate with limitation.

    I main Aphelios, he's honestly one of my all time favorite champions not only in league, but dare I say in the entire moba genre. I love that he forces you to adapt to what you are given, as you have to play around your weapon rotation and combos you can pull out. I even made a manual for lots of different weapon rotations you can do, and it got some praise on r/ApheliosMains (someone even claiming that my document was revolutionary). His lore isn't that bad, and there's something oddly satisfying about Aphelios being mute - maybe because I'm autistic myself, so we both share some form of disability.

      True, though being mute is a self-imposed disadvantage for Aphelios. He either drinks poison and loses the ability to feel pain and gets to talk to his sister or loses out on all the advantages of the poison even though the pain is excruciating. I love him though! I don’t know why you don’t think the stage can be considered a gadget that gives piltover/zaun it’s identity. • @proxi315

      Exactly. She legit looks like she came right out of the star guardian universe. And considering (if I remember correctly) she initially lived in zaun, she could be such a good addition to the roster.
      She would actually have some character development, overcoming poverty, trying not to hate pilties despite how easy it is zo blame them for the hard life of zaunites, and an endless amount of other options, instead of "oh no her ears hurt, here's a dead soul to help it and now go try to heal the world for no reason whatsoever"

    While I agree with you on most points, I would like to point out that Zoe does fit in the lore with Targon, and how Bard finally got a actual aspect. Zoe's ability's also fit with Bard. Her gameplay is ass tho. Also Ornn fits into the Frejord's lord because he is one of the three demigods. Everything else I agree with.

    • @LordArchanon
      @LordArchanon 3 года назад +9

      "explained in the lore" and "fits in the lore" aren't the same things. Yes, Zoe is an Aspect and is really X hundred years old and just showed up and all that, sure, that's what the lore is. But then you look at the actual character Zoe and the impression is '13 year old girl on a sugar high with an aesthetic from Lite-Brite'. The lore exists, the lore is written around the character and not integrated into the character.
      That said, take this with a grain of salt, Targon's lore rework is actually what made me quit the game because I hate it so much so I ain't exactly unbiased here.

    • @logical_chaos
      @logical_chaos 3 года назад +5

      I agree. Zoe fits just fine in my opinion, as much as people (and I) find her annoying. The idea that there's an Aspect of Twilight goes with Leona and Diana imo, and with her voice lines about change and heralding changes fit well. I actually actively like the idea that in the "in between" time of twilight there's crazy stuff that can be going on (represented by her spell stealing) since that's a common motif in folklore of a few cultures and is in various media. It makes sense to me that she'd be very chaotic.
      Also, unlike the other commenter, I don't think they shoehorned her in at all. Expanding on the universe while utilizing what's already there works imo, and that's what they did with Zoe just by filling in Twilight alongside Dawn/Day and Night. It didn't seem out of place at all, just expanded but still based on what's already established.
      I also feel like I should mention that her and Aurelion Sol go well together, too, though I know he's debated as well.
      (And no, I don't play Zoe and she annoys the heck out of me in game, but I think the general idea is neat.)

      I have to disagree. While I do think Sett works as the type of rebel such a society can create (hes akin to the Yakuza, for a comparison), I think the other two are flawed. Samira screams Bildgewater, not Noxus. The story her character, her model, and personality tells is more like what you'd expect from Bildgewater mercenary who knows they are badass. The only reason I know shes from Noxus is because I read her lore, and that's an issue. While I disagree with the "champions should always reflect their region" idea, I do think they should at least show signs that stand out that they have traits from that region. Samira fails to do that imho.
      Kai'sa makes no sense lore wise. Kassadin and Malzahar has established that entering the Void means you as re not the same coming out. While her "suit" is her change, it doesnt actually seem to corrupt her on the surface and, dare I say, looks just like typical fantasy clothing. If they showed simple lines that went in her skin, or her eyes being corrupt with energy, her skin tone being off and unnatural, or anything like that, her visual design would make sense. But to be honest, she was made hot because hot sales. sadly.
      Neeko also gets a pass. She represents a whole new faction and frankly, she does so successfully so far.

    I agree with a lot of these statements, but I gotta disagree on Samira, Neeko, and Sett. Other people have commented about Neeko and Samira, but Sett I feel is Ok in the game’s lore. He represents the dark side of Ionia, the fighting pits, which happened as a result of Noxus invasion. He wants to grow higher in the world to maybe confront his father about why he left the family. He’s half vastayan and half human which means he has a balance of both sides, Human’s dark nature and Vastayans wish for peace. Yeah, maybe he isn’t the BEST contender in story wise, but I think Sett is at least better than some characters like Seraphine. They need more champions like Ezreal. He's practically a perfect champion because he has a relatively low skill floor and a high skill ceiling. I think giving every champion a high skill ceiling is completely fine, and probably even good for the game, but making a large amount of new champions with high skill floors isn't. Not to say they shouldn't be made at all, but, like you said, not everyone wants every new champ for their role require so much learning and memorization to even play somewhat correctly. This last year, we have had a good mix of both low and high skill floor champions; Sett, Volibear, and Seraphine had low skill floors, Fiddlesticks, Lillia, and Rell had medium skill floors, and Yone and Samira had high skill floors. Of course, we also have Viego, who is seeming to be another medium-ish skill floor champion. As for the lore segment, I do not actually mind having champions from certain regions be different from the thematics of that region, as long as the thematics of the new champion itself are well crafted, and I do not think they even really break the boundaries of the themes they make for each region, but more or less just stretch them to be more inclusive under a larger net theme. Samira still has a bit of ruthlessness and a lust for power (specifically just to show it off), but also included bits of roguishness and general badassery. I agreed with most of what you said, but I do not blame Riot for making champs that might seem unorthodox for their region. They most likely just want to keep the game fresh by making champs as unique as possible, even if it means breaking a few rules. Except for Seraphine, she is something completely different.

She even has a voice line where she goes "Born in Shumira, raised in Noxus, maybe ill die in Demacia" showing that she's fairly well traveled. I think her having the guns despite not being from Piltover makes sense

    Rell and Sylas both represent the negative aspects that come from their region, while Demacia discriminates against mages and wishes to suppress them Noxus wants to exploit their power for military advantage.
    Samira and Rell are in direct contrast to each other as Rell basically had her life ruined by the cutthroat society and pursuits of power that Noxus creates as she was trained to be a weapon from childhood, while Samira was able to use that same system as a way to provide for her family by being a soldier and later on a mercenary.
    Something that connects them is that Leblanc is watching both of them from the shadows.

    She's the aspect of things like chaos, twilight, and foretelling. She's giggly and annoying because she's literally chaos. The Aspects are usually just prissy uptight people (think Taric, he's kinda full of himself). While Zoe is definitely full of herself, she brings this unusual wholesomeness to leagues otherwise dark story, while also having some demons herself (Fiddlesticks key and the hidden details that she accidentally kills mortals a lot)
    Her sleep kinda feels in character for her too, at least to me. She's the type of person to prank a sleeping person by doodling on their face. Of course she'd wanna make someone go to sleep to give her an advantage!

    I disagree complex champions are hard to use or understand. Its about how that complexity is implemented sett, jhin, kled, all have long passives and abilities, yet you can understand what they are about after seeing someone playing them just once because most of the complexity is numeric, or does not significantly affect you understanding. Samira and especially aphelios on the other hand, are hard to understand because you can watch many games with them and still not completely grasp what they do. Even then, Samira is still pretty undestandable.

    For me, the only problem with Seraphine is that her clothes doesn't scream plitover/zaun. The stage does make her look stiff and all, but it is part of her lore. If you've read it, her platform doesn't only amplify her songs but is a form of transportation from plitover to zaun & vice versa, in order for her to perform in both cities. In game, we can see that her stage is also a form of transportation and where all her abilities come out, which basically ties her lore and gameplay. Just like Ezreal's gauntlet or Caitlyn's rifle, we can say that it is her weapon, a hextech powered stage that amplifies sounds.

    You hit the nail on the head on how I feel about league since about season 5 ish. I don't care at all about the lore in multiplayer games, but all the rest pretty much perfectly encapsulates how I feel about it. One aspect I think you brushed over is the counterplay aspect. There are several of the newer champs and reworks where there is no inherent weakness whatsoever in their kits. The counterplay to these champions is simply to be better at the game than they are. This is a really stark contrast to the design of olden league, where almost all champion kits have clearly defined weaknesses you can exploit. Early days of league was more like a strategy game, while league the past few years have transitioned into more a quake 3 type of gameplay. Outplay is replacing counterplay at an accelerating rate, and champions without outplay tools become more and more obsolete.

    The fundamental issue is not knowing what to do against a champ; Older champions are easier to understand in the sense that they have clear strong & weak moments. A lot of the new & complex champions don't feel like they do (even though they obviously do). When Ezreal blinks in you know you have a few seconds to all-in him rather than reflexively backing away.

    I really enjoy the simple but complex kits in the game. Stuff like oriana's multipurpose ball, tahm kench's eating stacks, ezreals's e blink, all of these make really fun things to base their kits around. Thats not to say complex kits don't have their place in the game, if done right they can be really fun to play with like lee sin. But the more abilities you add, the harder it is to balance the champion. Azir is probably a perfecf example, his kit is just overloaded, being able to poke, stay safe, have one of the best movement abilities in the game, and a game changing ult in team fights is just too much to put on one champion. It can make it feel like he has no counterplay or that he has an answer for everything you do. Thats something that I think they've mostly avoided since then, but samira and akali continue to question whether or not they actually learned.

    • @herbs4135
      @herbs4135 3 года назад

      It’s funny, because as an Azir main he has so much utility and there are so many options he has one of the most enjoyable kits ive ever played, but he has been nerfed so hard numerically to account for this that he’s extremely weak for the first 20 minutes of a game. Recent champs are honestly more overloaded from a purely “how much they do” perspective. Viego has a dash, cc, invisibility, untargetability, a blink, an execute, mana regen, stats buff in smoke, etc, and then there’s his bloody passive. Honestly, it makes Azir’s kit seem almost simple. Azir has no cc, a long dash that has to be used extremely carefully because it has a 20 second cool down with no back up options, and a passive that is generally only up 1-3 times per game. Azir is certainly busted in the right hands but I literally went 26 5 9 in my 3rd ever game of Yasuo and similarly well on Viego. They can do so much and their stats are fine, and I’m beginning to not see the point in investing another 40 hours in Azir when he’s more difficult for worse stats

    I think, the problem is not about the champions being too overloaded. The problem is that they don't bring anything new. Every new champion has abilities and mechanics that already exist in League of Legends. Let's look at champions that were released years ago, like Pyke, Rek'Sai, Aurelion Sol, Ivern, Illaoi, Kai'sa, Zoe and etc. Every single one of them brings something new to the game, so they have their PERSONALITY and UNIQUENESS , with no "stolen" abilities from other champions.
    And now look to new champions like Seraphine, Yone, Samira, Lilia etc, no-one brings anything new to the game. They didn't add any new mechanics or playstyle.

    Actually, I think you have a good point about champion design. Not every single player has a super-brain because it has limitation of how much it can process and think. And the one thing that urges me is that Riot seem to shy away from the casual-friendly aspects of the game, to a more competitive (if not toxic) environment which makes the game incredibly unforgiving if you didn't pull of a great wombo-combo for example.
    I also agree that most of the recent champions who don't fit into the world of Runeterra (looking at you Seraphine), were created out of real-world influences like Yuumi (because of cat memes), Set (because he looks like a Jojo character) and Samira (because she DEFINITELY looks like a Devil May Cry character). I would be fine with these unique designs, if it they have some significance to the world of Runeterra. Sett as a pit-fighter underneath the Ionian undergrounds, why not. Yuumi who's a magical cat from Bandle City, okay. Samira for being a daredevilish noxian militarist who's blood-origin is from Shurima, we can go with that. But then we have Seraphine who is a straight rip-off of Sona, has a lore that tells nothing about her association with Piltover's steampunk innovation and Zaun's creativity for survival, has a design that looks eerily too similar a Star Guardian skin who performs Pop-music.
    I think Riot really needs to adress these issues as soon as possible, instead of leaving them as an afterthought.

    Gameplay should always be first and lore and aesthetics second. As a huge Runeterra lore fan, I know how much a good story can not only elevate a champion but also the universe they inhabit. But I cannot agree with the philosophy to design a champion around a region.
    Another thing, stories that don't fit your mold of the region aren't inherently bad. It can explore aspects of the region that you previously never knew it had, expanding the world. Take Sett, one of your examples. His existence open up such a huge can of worms for Ionia that was never explored previously. Not only do we have the Navori Brotherhood and the Order of Shadow that spawned from the war, but there now is also a bustling criminal underworld. It shows that some Ionians are adopting Noxus culture, keeping the barbaric fighting pit that once belonged to the enemy, demonstrating that Ionia isn't all spiritual and enlightened as we once thought.

    "why do you think games like Minecraft, Mario, and Pokemon are so popular?"
    Yeha, about the pokemon part...

      ???? the only reason why it's not as popular now is because they basically remade the same game like 16 times

      @@xavmarz755 they are not only lazy, also lame and manipulative. Saying that they sacrificed the National dex for quality textures and animations was a blatant lie.

      @@rodrigokuszek I think it's rather presumptuous of you to go on telling others that they're lazy or whatnot. Incompetent? Maybe. But to call someone lazy? That's rather uncalled for. Imagine how it'd feel if you worked on one of your favourite game franchises, and not only could you not fit in all the features because of deadlines/investors and whatnot, but also they called you lazy. That'd hurt me to be honest. I feel like that's rather rude of you.

      @@thewitchcoven well i'm pretty sure their employees are not lazy, they do be crunched. But their philosophy make it seem that way. They are re-using old assets from sun and moon and they have the audacity to lie in front of us. Everything is from scratch they said

      @@rodrigokuszek imagine you NEED to created a game in a year span because there is so much money coming from goodies, cards, anime show that you’re basically forced to release content on a just-in-time basis. I’ve been pretty disappointed by the last 2 generations of Pokemon, but considering the fact that Game Freaks still works just like a small company (Despite producing the biggest franchise ever), I understand they use these kind of tricks to gain time (this lie part tho is clearly unprofessional and a big letdown)

    This may be a stretch but, is it me, or is there a heavy correlation between "e-girl" champs and champs that just dont fit? (yuumi, seraphine, zoe?) the overly cutesy ones..
