Idk I still believe that the new "Aatrox" should be a different champion. he fits a darkin pretty fine and play very differently from old Aatrox. After the "mini rework" of old Aatrox I believe he was in a pretty decent state, he could jungle top and mid fine and was viable across all levels of play. The rework wasn't awful until they gutted the rework to be worse than he was just pre-rework.
totally agree, in addtition, lore wise, there should be at least 10 or more darkin lurking around somewhere as they are the fallen ascended of shurima and there were tons of those. so a release of a cool, spell based darkin wouldve been good at that time.
he was overtune, the only reason because people was salty was because they didnt nerf him before the rework
@@sierraamaya now that akshan can revive more than 2 people with one kill i want to see their excuse to not give aatrox his revive when ulted after killing at least one enemy

I would say that the Sion and Poppy rework kept close to their original play styles. Sion can still stun you and burst you build AD( and less successfully AP,they could buff that). And Poppy is still a Champion that focuses on locking down and damaging a single enemy, the difference is that she knocks other champions away instead of becoming immune to others damages.
I mean, not really though. By that extension you can say that Aatrox is still a draintank who turns into a raidboss by pressing R and knockups with his Q.
Poppy could be played as a skirmisher/diver that negated your entire team while you picked one character to kill, whereas now she's a warden that acts to protect their team or knock away a priority target at best. Her current lockdown is pretty laughable to what it used to be, many other champs do what she does infinitely better, and definitely not a vanguard.
Sion could either play as a drain tank skirmisher that facetanked your entire team while dealing a lot of auto damage or as a hit and run caster. Now he plays more of as a tank or as someone who sits in bushes waiting to hit a Q to maybe hit big damage because of the long cast time and clunkiness of his kit, something that was not nearly as present as before.
Both of those champions have definitely had their roles, playstyles, and identity completely taken away from them, even more than Aatrox. But like Vars said their playstyles were so degenerate that anything was better than what they used to be.
@@crysoarl7344 Sion was never a tank pre rework,he was extremely squishy. A full AD Sion is a hit and run caster and his passive is really similar to the old Sion.
Poppy has way more lockdown now,and you could use your ult and W to isolate a target.
@@joaopedrocruz6432 I said Sion was a drain tank, not a tank.
Poppy used to get 10 seconds to kill an ADC with her ult. Her lock down now is as limited as E Qing a wall, which she used to have.
And it's literally undeniable that these champs are completely different to what they used to be. Aatrox was definitely not the first champion who's kit and play style was taken away from him.
@@crysoarl7344 Drain tanks are still tanks ( and the only one was old Swain). Old Poppy could only stun( which is little lockdown), the new Poppy can throw the rest of a team away to focus down a target,or prevent life saving dashes and has the same stun.
Aatrox was also my first main in season 5, and continued to main him all the way until the rework, so I feel your pain brother, I miss him everyday smh
Never thought I’d see someone going to bat for the Aatrox rework so hard in a video before
I would really appreciate you making a retrospect on Mordekaiser, I think it would really fit the series and the drake in ultimate Spellbook made me nostalgic.
New aatrox fans: starts casting first q. Enemy team sees that he is cc'd and kills him
Oldtrox enjoyers: dives into 5 people and begins draintanking 600hp every 2 hits while shredding everyone. Dies, comes back to finish the job and pushes nexus without minions.
Also old aatrox: Tries to dash and gets CC'd before it happens.
Also oldtrox: somehow misses the Q knockup and dies because of it xD
Also new aatrox: Tries to cc with W but enemy just walks out of it.
Also new aatrox: 0.25 second knock up Q that roots yourself in place so adc can just stand still and auto you to death
@@TheLastAatroxMain Also new Aatrox: W doesn't activate the pull zone despite damaging enemy
Bruder, nice dass du jetzt hochgeladen hast, sitz grad sowieos auf Schüssel
On aoe autohits: You forgot old Kayle. Her E gave her autohits range and an aoe explosion which would deal double damage if she would crit with the auto attack. This could be combined with Tiamat for more Aoe Damage because kayle would still count as a Melee champion. (There is a youtube video of this called "Siv HD's Critamat Kayle Guide")
Oi and don't don disrespect my old Sion. The champ was so fun to play.
For future retrospective the only other champions that are a must, are Morde and Yoric... so there you go 2 more vids for use to enjoy watching 😉
Great video, finally someone who appreciates the new aatrox :)
I feel like his Q couldve just been a triple auto attack empower with similar hitboxes and people would've been fine with it. He just went from a champ that autos for his damage to an ability spammer, that's the only big change.
I really enjoyed the old Aathrox, and honestly I kinda hate playing, playing with and playing against the new one. He just feels so clunky and weird to play, and the people you meet who play him are one-tricks that will run you down regardless of what you pick against him. And there's no auto attack boi that feels quite like he used to. I'd love to see a duelist/skirmisher centered around his old W, with everything else being optional.
love the touhou music throughout the video
I mained Aatrox before his change. His kit was very unique and fun. It worked very well if you were able to put hours into the champ. He was not very broken. He was simple and very easy to beat but was not unable to be steamrolled. I miss the old aatrox. The new one does not have any remnants of the old character and it is dissappointing. Also they could have at least kept him left handed. That wouldve been a nice detail.
I miss old aatrox, nothing quite feels like he did, with that all or nothing playstyle. Samira almost scratches that itch, even shares the DMC references but its not the same. Riot jag killed him. "Fight and be remembered, or die and be forgotten." I wont forget him :(
Honestly old Aatrox just needed a VU and maybe swap out the old revive passive for something else. The current Aatrox could've easily been the 4th darkin, thus existing as their own separate champ.
I still think you should make a video about wether Riot is recycling champion abilities. Yone E plays alot like Zed R and Akshan ult is Caitlyn+Lucian.
I mostly miss his old personality and voice lines. It makes sense to have an angry sword wielding darkin tho, but still, he sounded sofisticated and noble.
Imo, the Aatrox and mordekaiser reworks completely stripped league of two really niche playstyles, and even though they had problems, they got changes that mostly fixed that by the end, and I hate that I can never play those champs anymore because they just got removed and replaced with something completely different. I don’t hate new Morde or new Aatrox, but they simply over did them to an extreme extent.
I think it’s so silly in Aatrox’ case that they changed the champ so much, that the people who used to main him, no longer wanted to, simply because he’s like 6 times harder to play, and gets completely countered by someone taking ignite toplane.
Also Morde needs a revert. Plays like nothing similar to his old design, not as drastic as Aatrox, but he still doesent play the same at all. I played both Morde and Aatrox, but much more of the former and I'd give so much to be able to play him again.
?????
Btw, before s7 his e scaled with ap, he could be a mage and was able to one shot adc with e+ultimate
Nice video aatrox is one of the best champs 😎

I loved Aatrox first version and despise new one - but not because of gameplay. As a character and lore enjoyer, it hurts that Aatrox turned from, yeah, somewhat edgy but still imposing dark figure, standing in the distance, being the very concept of War - into a screaming raging like Tyler1 maniac-psychopath who just don't feel like anything threatening.
They really need to bring the revive back

The old version was where you landed W then your Q would auto target right? That sounds kinda OP ngl

i remember old urgot being one of the wackiest but secretly op motherfuckers in the game. wish i remember what he did other than the Q spam lmao
@@croatiancowboy if I remember it correctly, the Q was that projectile, the W was a shield, the E was another projectile that made the Q always hit the target for a brief period, and the R switched places. I really believe it was a solid champion, the only problem is that he was build like a adc since the E had a lot of range and allowed him to inflict a lot of damage with his Q from a huge distance, so of course he was build as an adc, wich made his ult useless out of the lane phase.
Can't wait. I used to hate the rework but it's great actually. However, this will never justify how Oldtrox got deleted.
Hard agree, new "Aatrox" isn't bad, He just isn't the same champ. They could've been two entirely different champs and both been in the game.

To this day i still miss my Lord and savior, 6v4 Mordekaiser.
Rito really disappoint me when they broke their promise on "keeping one ability." They kill his identity as the champion that have the best Pet in the whole game. Make your enemy to your pet is the best thing.
Now he just an AP Darius but worse Q but with arguably better Camille's Ult.
I hate what they did to him loved every version besides this most recent braindead ghostless version it sucks his ult was the whole point and the new one is so ininspired boring as ass compared to using their own adc to get a penta. Viego is more boring old morde.
He now is just a strange mixture between sion riven darius tryndamere camille and swain before he actually was a warlord who killed gods cause he was bored of being dead
Man really miss the juggernaut update mord was my favorite champion in the game the new one is boring nothing unique about him zero identity whatsoever
Keeping his revive whilst removing other factors like dmg or sustain could've helped. I dunno but both old and new revives were the signature gag of that champion. (anivia revive is different we all know that)
then nobody picks him, there are tanks than can acomplish the same with less effort.
Old GA was called by the player by the name of the aatrox revive it was so signature

i already want to say I like the premise of the idea, especially if you end up covering Gangplank...
GP was a champion i played support that was broken in a way nobody else ever thought imaginable, with frozen gauntlet and zekes herald, i was making the cc heavy meta supports at the time (thresh, morganna and anni) look USELESS, i face tanked their damage and CC, i out healed and out damaged them, ALL the while giving my ADC (draven) +40 AD & +10% life steal, had the rework and zekes getting deleted not happened, I legit would have made support GP META.
I was also building shurelyas for bonus movement, using ult to slow entire enemy teams down, out running supports like thresh running mobi's, that was such a funny time. my duo partner at the time still says he misses my support gangplank the best support he EVER had. & we ran many duo strats bot lane that still work to this day, GP + Yuumi with our own twist (we just make Garen too tanky to burst and buy everfrost on Yuumi so enemies cant chase or escape), we ran twitch lulu, we ran Yi & Taric botlane. Zilean and Trynd, but still he wishes for old GP with Zekes Herald over any of that.

The main trick to playing old Aatrox, was knowing WHEN to swap between Blood Price and Blood Pierce. As Pierce's HP lifesteal/heal was doubled when under 1/2 HP, so knowing when the make the change.
Also he was a Jungler, at least I ran him as one and he was amazing, as he was one of the VERY few that after getting a little bit of attackspeed on his first back, he could walk to dragon and solo it, very few could solo dragon early in the game (Vi could back then too).
remember D-Blade jungle start? good ol times
As a main of both new and old Aatrox, I have to admit that his current W is a joke. His old E would be simple, but a far better spell, I mean imo his W is easily the worst spell in the game with 26 seconds cd lvl 1, being skilled last, easily avoided and only cc´s a single target.
didnt it use to chain everyone in its radius?
I still think his old blood well in combination with his w was one of the coolest mechanics in the game. fairly intuitive, adaptable to playstyle and current situation and most importantly an insanely high skill ceiling without 43 dashes.
The worst ability in the game? I mean, I can definitely understand it not being a good ability by any means, but "easily the worst spell in the game"? Guess opinions exist for a reason haha.

Let's be clear. Its total BS that Aatrox had to lose most all his healing and his revive mechanic from the rework. If you can't make the rework balanced just revert it. Look at the champs since he was reworked. No he was not overloaded they were lazy at balancing a very good unique champ. As an original Aatrox player I didn't mind the rework, it wasn't great but i knew it wouldn't be everything i wanted. Then they gutted everything that made him Aatrox. I too feel the pain of losing a main to a rework. For me it was Swain, they completely erased his old identity and his gameplay changed drastically. Yes he fulfills the same role and yes he still has similar themes but he is just not the same anymore. I think Galio is in the same boat but to a lesser extent.
Well, tbh I never really cared for the old Aatrox, I might have seen him a dozen of times max in the year I played before his rework... so in my eyes it is a very successful rework.
I picture the old as forgettable, and boring, while the new one can make plays and clutch fights like TheShy did against G2 in semi-finals of worlds.
I've never understood the criticism on his rework...
It's not the same champion, the original is a duelist while the new one is a juggernaut sort of fighter, they didn't keep it's identity despite having a really good one, because sion's and urgot's rework were also changing a lot but those 2 didn't really have an identity per say. That's why it's such a bad rework, because those are supposed to give someone a more updated kit while still being the same, and in this case that didn't happen.
I started playing him when they made those changes to make him more viable until rework. Little did I know I was gonna have so much fun playing him. When they reworked him, I wasn't really amused with how much they chaged his identity, but I still played with him, just not as much. When they removed his revive it was the last straw, there was no point in playing a champ that didn't remind me at all the one I started playing with.
I feel like people who only play the new one won't understand this. He only has the "I heal a lot" build now, while before he could go multiple builds depending on how you wanted to play that game. He really felt like a blade master then
yes i feel the exact same, i loved his champ and his lore before rework. But the revive being taken away even AFTER the rework was the last straw for me.

Well, I have a bit of a weird experience concerning this guy, since i never got to play his old version (and a lot of other pre rework champs, only started playing mid S10). Aatrox was my main for a while, but I dropped him in favor of Yone since I preferred Yone's more basic attack heavy and overall speedier kit. I feel like I wouldve really liked old Aatrox, but now I'll never get to know if I liked him better back then.
Better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all........ I miss the OG Aatrox.
New Aatrox, a great champion, that didn't HAVE to be Aatrox :/

@Ata Karayou're damn right
First you surprised using Fire Emblem music on a LoL video, then talking about competitive Pokémon and Smash and now you use Touhou Project music??? I didn't know you knew that game that's amazing!
Also incredible video is so interesting to look back at the past of this champion because i have pretty much forgot of what he used to be haha
when i heard the touhou music i was like "yo hol' up" and then i was hyped
I just miss the old aatrox's gameplay. There isn't that many melee champions focused on basic attacks that actually work.
I really wish they would bring his old kit back as a completely new champion. That's all i cared about, the kit!
What old aatrox? there're 2 phases of old Aatrox.
@@N12015 yeah that's why i ask what phase of old aatrox? The pre-mini rework old Aatrox or the post-mini rework old Aatrox? Wow now that i typed this out, it's so fucking long.
@@brokendaylight1089 The latest one.
All i want is his old w. It was so interresting to have a toggle between healing and damage, and i cant think of any other champ that has something similar
A new champ with gameplay similar to Old!Aatrox would be super cool. Like, really cool. I feel like it could also be reminiscent of his old lore. Make him a new demon like Tahm and Evelyn, who shows up on the battlefield to lead troops to victory, only to turn on them when they realize the atrocities they've committed. Hire me for lore riot.
Won't say anything except that old aatrox looked cooler.
I personally liked his old theme better the kind of angelic demon of death and carnage vs the imprisoned madman.
my man aatrox getting the love he deserves
I don't remember ability order of the old Aatrox, so I will go by what his abilities did.
Yes, old Aatrox could have reworked into competitive and loyal to his old kit champion. Here is how:
1) His passive should store both HP he use for his abilities and HP he loses due to damage from enemy champions. It should not decay over time, but instead get be used as additional resource for his active abilities. In addition, his resource bar maximum values should depend on your maximum HP, thus allowing you to benefit more from building him more tanky;
2) 3rd attack damage: make it AOE, hitting all enemies around your target;
3) His laser, if used with above a certain amount of his resource bar, should become faster and cause an explosion if it hits an enemy champion. This explosion would deal a little bit of addition damage and slow all enemies hit;
4) His jump, if used with above a certain amount of his resource bar, should have increased knock up radius;
5) His R should have become a dash and then cause you to transform. Also, if your passive resurrection triggers while your R is active, then at the end of it you should regain your full resource bar.
To compensate for these changes, his abilities would have their values readjusted. However, these changes would have allowed him to keep his old kit and would also make him into a solid counter-pick against certain champions. Also, it would have opened him a few new built patches instead of simply always going full life-steal.
If newtrox was a new darkin and they kept oldtrox, with maybe a mini rework but keeping his identity as a drain tanking autoattack based death machine, it would all be alright, now the only thing even remotely similar to oldtrox would be drain tank trundle and onhit warwick top
He actually got a mini rework that fixed most of his problems, like a month before rito decided to fully delete him from the game. It was a pretty much "fuck you" move from devs to Aatrox's players, because they got their champ made viable, only to lose him completely few weeks later in favor of clunkier Riven on steroids.
@@mattphyx yeah that added a lot of salt into the wound
“With his ultimate, Aatrox can do 2000 damage with a full q rotation” Goodluck trying to land skills that have a long windup and small hitbox on players that have a brain.
that is the point, high risk high reward, it wouldn't be fair if it wasn't easy to dodge
@@skkadoot9533 That is the point? Get out of here with that bullshit. The point is there's TOO many champs that don't have this amount of counterplay and are simply better. Riven, Camille, Irelia, Garen, Morderkaiser, Darius, and too many others top laners are much easier to play doing the same amount of damage.
@@skkadoot9533 Like I said decent players that have the brains will dump you. If you're gonna main aatrox go play Riven instead.
@@Duran762 are you actually nuts?! the problem there isnt aatrox at all, its all those champs that doesnt have counterplay or are simply overpowered, its like if you were in boxing fight you use the reglamentary gloves but everyone else is using brass knuckles, the rest obviusly has it easier but not for that you are wrong in this case you and aatrox would be the only ones doing it the way it should be

"im talking yorick levels off irrelevant" ouch
just like in the event
E-boy vs bunch of influencers
The truth is Riot doesn't give a sheet about Yorick because Riot can see the stats of the player base and skin lines, and they see that Yorick isn't very popular, in both picks and skin purchases, Riot loves dat money.
Maybe they should completely change him like they did Aatrox.............. make his shovel bigger, his muscles bigger, give him 3 knock ups on his q, remove the maiden of the mist and just make him go big instead, since you know their whole story is irrelevant.
While that is fun to say i dont think aatrox was that irrelevant.
Why i think that is because at some point riot removed mana pots from the game. To compensate they gave almost every champ that has mana, more base mana and more mana regen as compensation. Every champ...except yorick who was already a mana hungry champ.
I used to main Aatrox when I was playing this game, he still remains my favourite champion. From one hand I miss the old Aatrox because I putted a lot of effort to learn him and it was quite satisfying, when he got reworked I still liked him darkin blade felt so good to land but imho riot slowly destroied him removing the revive passive and nerfing him to the ground (rn in s11 I don't know if he's good again or not maybe someone can tell me). It's ironic that when he was finally good (the mini rework) they changed him completely, I know it was for the better because old Aatrox was not much healty for the game but still I think the day he got the VGU a part of the champion was lost.
P.S thanks for making a video about Aatrox, it's the champion I like the most hands down in all the game
Well he was busted when Goredrinker was busted, so not exactly strong because of himself but rather that there was an item that made him a god before they nerfed it hard.
I’m glad u have a more balanced take on the new Aatrox. Like I feel for those who one tricked the old version but spam auto attacking melee champions is not an interesting or better design than the current version of the champ
When the Sett video is coming?
Soon!
Aatrox s7 was consistent in every battle. dive into the enemy and just press R, you got full passive instantly and got the atk speed + revive.
Bring back old Aatrox!
You always mention old, large reworks, but never mention Galio: the largest rework of his time. Perhaps a discussion on Galio? I mained the old Galio, and hated the new one for ages, but I understand the new one is more diverse and approachable.
Keep up the good work, I always love your videos. Been watching for a while ❤️
tbh, i had absolutely forgotten that galio had been reworked, the old one feels like it was from anywhere else except league
at lest old galio was fun, new one is literally like alistar, but alistar is at lest somewhat fun to play, the only thing on old galio that needed change was his visuals
I hated the old galio ngl and just love the new one. Love his personality, love his playstyle (for the kid that says it's like alistar: play ali then galio, they have legit nothing in common, saying this as an alistar main) but i do think he needs some love cause he's in a terrible spot atm.
old galio was the most anti mage champion you could get, new one is literally a tank offering cc for team and protecting them, old one was kinda like old ap nunu, offering some poke and strong in defense cause of his ulti, i never liked new galio mainly cause of his R
Old Galio W was so fun. And kiting all day with Q then E was also so fun. New Galio is great (now that I've found a fun build), but they are worlds apart. This is another example of changing someone so much they could have both been in the game. I miss having a TRUE anti-carry/anti-mage. But maybe that was no fun for other people.
New Galio build - Rockebelt, Horizon Focus, Abyssal Mask. Belt towards them for MS boost, Start with full W, then Q E AA. The latter 2 items give you 10 and 15% boosted damage (25% is HUGE) after hard CC. I have 1-shot a Gwen and an Irelia from a bush, both from full HP (Irelia typed "3K HP BTW!''). Last items can depend greatly: Lich, Dcap, Thornmail, ZH, Banshees, and boots I prefer Lucidity if I can deal with their team. Runes - Aftershock, Shield Bash, Second Wind (for lane phase), Revitalize (to boost the Second Wind healing and giving bigger passive shield meaning more damage from shield bash), Sudden Impact and Ultimate Hunter.
I love both aatrox’s so much but I think I like the new one more. Few things are more satisfying than landing a multi-man 3rd q in ult to deal half their health and healing to full with it and goredrinker
Old aatrox was way more fun playing even though he had more problems
Old Aatrox was my main since release and the entire fiasco is just traumatically sad. His current state is a hundred times better than the abomination that was originally released 3 years ago as he is at least a real draintank instead of a scuffed assassin hybrid, but as a rework it still fails to what a rework is supposed to do
Cool pfp
You played the old aatrox as a assassin????? what
@@koroxo1152 He had disgusting amount of free AD in his kit, 2 dashes and an on demand revive, so everyone played him with Electrocute and Ghostblade on both top and mid. Do people really dont remember a strat that tore up SoloQ 3 years ago?
Aatrox was released right after I started playing. He wasnt my main and I wasnt the best at playing him, but I always enjoyed the old version and it will forever keep a place in my heart. The new version feels much different but it isn't bad, just another playstyle.
I actually got my mom into playing league of legends by introducing her to old aatrox! He was her favorite champion, because he healed all the time and had a free revive, but still jumped in and did damage (her words not mine). She was so upset when he got reworked, but had mostly moved on to playing mages by then. Good video man.
I miss old Urgot, I really liked his physical caster playstyle with the target lock grenade who make you deal with stealth champion with ease. Rip overweight spider
"The only champs who can inflict a lot of AOE damage through AAs are ad-carries with Runaan's" - also Kayle.
Heh, maybe it's being cheeky but I'm glad someone's said it
Remember akshan has a revive proc while Aatrox was removed due to being "OP".-_-
People don’t realize how different the rework made him compared to other reworks. (Besides yorick that is). Literally none of his abilities stayed the same, and his play style completely changed.
Poppy still has short range %hp damage Q (just became aoe skill shot), W still a movement speed buff (just gained an aura with an effect), E is still the exact same, R is the most different but in a healthy way and if used properly can still isolate a target. Her passive was completely changed but in a good way as it was boring and hard to notice before, though very op.
Pantheon still has a stacking passive (just offensive instead of defensive, ranged damage Q with crit on low health (just aoe skill shot), W is exactly the same, E kind of took the old E and passive and mashed them together, R is for all intents and purposes exactly the same.
I could go on and on, but the point is that they all kept most of their abilities and identities intact, even though in some cases the design goals didn’t match the identities in practice, Poppy was a good example, you could look at her design and see she was designed to be a tanky single target lock down champ, but her damage scaling and the interactions with her passive and ult just allowed her to build full damage and 1 shot while still being pretty tanky. That could have been solved with balance changes easily, or they just add some unique parts to her kit and she still plays relatively the same (e into wall and q the enemy).
Old Aatrox wan't good before it's rework, Riot just overbuff him and because they knew that in some months they would rework him didn't nerf him back. The people that remember the "prime" of Aatrox when he was good don't remember that he simply was op after years of been forgotten.
Finaly someone who dares speak the thruth.
90% of the people bitching for a revert are abusers of his mini rework who never picked OG Aatrox
@@zertyf7427 Right? almost nobody played old Aatrox because he was unappealing and shit. New Aatrox was a much needed change and step in the right direction.
Finally some people with fucking common sense, how is it so rare finding people like you nowadays.
As a champion in game, visuals, voice and Lore new Aatrox is a masterpiece
Pffftt.
Tbh I would’ve liked if they kept his bloodthirsty passive. If the champion used health to cast abilities, well thats perfect. It would synergies even better with his healing now. Also, the three auto attacks, the choose if you heal or do damage was a really good concept I think, and i would’ve like it to be applied on his passive. Maybe something like every 3rd auto attack you deal a whole lot of damage but loose health, but to balance it a bit more the increase e's passive healing. Or they could also have made him heal on every third auto attack, idk. I'm saying this but he was my first main when I started, and I started after his rework, so of course my opinion would be influenced by this. Whatever, y’all have a great day!

I was an old Aatrox main who still has not found a suitable replacement after all this time. I don't play other duelists like Jax or Fiora because I feel like they feel a ton more BS to play against than old Aatrox, and I think he was the most "fair" and "respectable" duelist of them all. I agree with your assessment that we can't ignore the fact that old Poppy, Yorick, Sion and Urgot got completely replaced as well, but I think the distinction to be made is that they had such old kits that they were designed in an era of early league with less thought put into kit design as a whole, and more throwing things at a wall and seeing what stuck. Whereas Aatrox was created in season 3, where Riot had established a fundamental vision for the game and designs which is why I personally believe the Aatrox rework replacing the champion is more of a slap to the face than other reworks like Sion and Poppy.
They coul keeo old aa and bring manaless spellcastwe juggernaut but they instead used this new champion under the name of rework to completly remove en existing chammpion out of the game
Rest in peace old AA may your onhit lifesteal carry legacy be remembered
And the saddest thing here is that...it didn't have to be this way... Altough the old Aatrox had sort of become a meme for how bad he was, his kit wasn't unsalvageable at all. This is how I would have handled it: keep his GA-like passive, but make it so that it completely consumes all of his secondary bar resource, upon reanimating. And this bar gets filled by doing damage with auto-attacks (more from the empowered ones) and now acts like Shyvana's rage, never going down if not doing damage, only being consumed when used by the passive. And the value of this bar will determine how much of his health Aatrox has when reanimating, from a minimum of 20%, when the bar's empty, to a maximum of 50% when it's full. When it's full, Aatrox would visually harden his his exo-skeleton, gaining flat bonuses in both armor and MR, which he would lose upon the bar being consumed. And the bar would have different colors depending on state: gray, if the revive passive is on CD, red, if the revive passive is off of CD, but the bar is incomplete and golden when it's full and the revive passive is off of CD. His Q would remain the same Dark Flight (cause free-target blink abilities are awesome and the one he has now is beyond pityful), but now the damage circle is made up of two concentric zones: the inner, smaller one causes a knock-up to targets, while the outer, bigger one just a slow (or maybe bigger damage, to make you choose between raw damage and hard CC). On his W would come the biggest change, since him having to choose between bonus damage and healing on his aa was the biggest, stupidest flaw in his design. Now, instead of a toggle ability, it would be an ability with both a passive and an active. The passive would be similar to Xin Zhao's actual passive (bonus damage and healing every third aa), only slightly stronger in damage and the healing being a percentage of the damage dealt (life-steal starting at 4% at level 1 of the ability and ending at 20% at level 5) and the active would be a temporary buff that makes all of his aa during the period be empowered and actually even slightly stronger. His E would still be a skill-shot that slows, but now it's in an actual straight line (instead of the weird triangular path it used to have), a stab with his sword in a chosen direction, similar to Viego's Q. And if he hits at least one enemy champion, he also gains some bonus attack speed. Now, the ultimate would be the best part: he still becomes a scary raid -boss, getting a bigger model, gaining range, movement speed, ignoring unit collision, losing his ability to crit (he wouldn't build crit anyway, since he should build bruiser with an accent on health), but instead gaining a huge AD bonus (12%, 24%, 50% of his total AD). His aa animation also changes, cause his sword is now a whip. His healing on his W also increases by 50% (meaning 20% life-steal now becomes 30%, this does not scale with the life-steal he has from items, as that would be way too much). And the icing on the cake: if he uses his ultimate while his Blood Well bar is full, he consumes it all (but ONLY if it's full, if it isn't, he doens't consume any of it) and increases his maximum health by 30% (like with Nasus and Renekton when they uses their ultimates), while still retaining his armor and MR bonuses, but only as long as the ultimate is active. Of course, this will guarantee that when his revive passive gets triggered, he will only have 20% of his maximum health. This will make him think about whether he wants to keep this bar until he gets "killed' intiially and make his second chance not (basically) worthless or if he wants to make his ultimate even scarier, but basically forgo his second lease on life.
THANK YOU FOR THIS! As an Aatrox main for a very long time since release, I love the old one but the new Aatrox is much better for me. More skill impressions than just doing auto attacks. Playing the old Aatrox is so clunky as you said for every champ can counter him.

I would have been okay with Aatrox never having his self-revive again. It would have been sad, but I'd be okay with it. Then Akshan came with his potential to revive allies. Now I have a problem.
