As someone mentioned below, there are three types of love in this medley - romantic love for I See the Light, parental love for You'll Be In My Heart, and self love for Go the Distance. So beautiful.
How did you get so lucky that your editor is also a music theory genius?!?
He was a member of The Acousticats who were on the 4th season of the Sing-Off. You should find the "behind the scenes" video of this- Kirsten and Jeremy have a hard time singing because their jaws are constantly dropping at what Voctave does.
FYI No they aren't together. Kristen called off the wedding shortly before the scheduled date. She is expecting her first child with her new boyfriend.
HOLY SHIT WTF HE DOOOOOO
Excited, brain-melted Mortius has gotta be my fav one lol. Hope you keep reacting to more Voctave, definitely worth it!
“It is seven syllables” hold 6 fingers… brain melt
@@gravestroys8290 I'm waiting for Mortius to put on an oxygen mask...
I sooooo agree about their two part harmony in “this bond between us can’t be broken”…gets me every time!❤️
Your face at 24:54, was also my face at this part! The whole song gave me goosebumps!
Mortius, you are darling and delightful.💜 I adore your reactions.
My parents also withheld movies, movie parts and sad endings from me. Now I have my sister preview movies for me; she tells me when to go get popcorn.🍿
Thanks for the fantastic reactions & thanks to Mason for the fun editing. 💛
Jamey Ray arranges in the same style as Derric Johnson, and I’m a complete sucker for all of it. So beautiful. Seeing their charts blew my mind!
Mortius was fully experiencing the lack of working memory we who have ADHD deal with in this video
I'm still here with brain-melted Mortius! And much thanks to Mason for the save there. You are greatly appreciated as an editor! Either way, best of luck to you Mortius as you are going through all of this. Just know that you are still loved, even as you are loopy as all-get-out. And yes, I am equally baffled at Go The Distance's presence in this medley.
You should react to Voctave singing music from “The Prince of Egypt”
Jamey Ray mentioned somewhere that the love Medley is three types of love: At last I see the Light is romantic love, You'll be in my Heart is familial love and Go the Distance is self love.
Love your reactions and my 10 yo son thinks all your Voctave reactions are hilarious 😂. Thank you for content that is fun for my son to watch with me (he loves listening to music and just started trombone this year so he started saying the beats along with you when you were counting).
Keep it up!
As a fun one my son suggests the Disney 90s TV Medley.
I still suggest the Prince of Egypt Medley or the Disney Heroes and Villans medley (no video though) You will love it.
Always love watching your Voctave reactions! Thank you so much. 👍
Any time we get some Voctave is a good time. Love their work.
I only know that i loved this medley from the beginning. Voctave vocalists are the instruments ... nothing more is needed. You explained why it sounds so soothing and entertaining, both. Thank you.
I love vocatave and they are without a doubt my favorite musical group. I also enjoyed you bringing up the time signatures. When I was young learned how to play the violin and was even in a youth string orchestra. I've probably listened to this song a dozen times and never even paid attention to that, very cool catch.\
Please please PLEASE react to the prince of egypt medley by Voctave. It hit me in ways that I never knew music could. It has some of the most beautiful harmonies I have heard. I've had it on repeat for DAYS
Had to be comment number 75, especially after seeing this was uploaded the day before my birthday! I love voctave as a whole, and totally haven’t rewatched multiples of both them and voice play lol. I’m so glad I found your channel!
Voctave - This is My Wish/Let There be Peace on Earth and Someone Like You (from Jekyll and Hyde). The former is my favorite from them I think, despite it featuring a soloist.
Yes Someone Like You is in my top 5 favs from Voctave! Jody McBrayer sings in one of my favorite groups as well and it was so fun to hear him in this version with Voctave.
I absolutely love Voctave. I think I got carpet burns on my chin from hitting it so.many times. Kirstin and Jeremy are so awesome together. This cover will break you for sure
This is awesome analysis, really appreciate your detail, this is like 400 level
Yes in that one place in the second song Voctave is singing triplets opposed to Kirsten singing on the beat.
Yes please more Voctave
Do you guys like my Pokémon poster
Mason, you are an amazing editor and have only added to my enjoyment of Mortius. Keep up the amazing work!
@Magixmason1000 so, Pokémon and Music theory. Please tell us more about yourself. And how did you and Mortius connect? 😊
Always here for more Voctave, they’re so gorgeous. Have you seen ‘oh come all ye faithful’ with EJ Cardona? It’s just…stunning.
Also, there’s a very cute little video of the BTS rehearsal of Jeremy and Kirsten losing it the first time Kate hits one of those incredible high notes. It’s only like 3 minutes but very sweet
Edit: yay mason!!
This is one of my Favorite Octave Medley's also Mason thanks for explaining the measure thingy (I don't know music terminology) 😂
YES!!!! to Eric Whitacre's 'Water Night', I performed that song in choir. It would've been great if I had you as a music teacher.
It just goes to show, it’s difficult to brain around Voctave
Kirstin and Jeremy were dating when this was filmed, but they split in October 2017....She is now with a filmmaker by the name of Ben Hausdorff and they are expecting a child together.....
So happy to see this pop up. Kudos to your fans for the explanations. Mason rocks!
I loved your reaction as it was the closest to mine when viewing this masterful performance. I’m so glad someone appreciated the genius of Jamey Ray’s arrangements. As he says… he writes for the specific legendary voices in the group. Their blend comes from years of work in the Voices of Liberty at Disneyworld where they perform acoustically. If you ever get to see them live in Orlando, it is an experience you’ll never forget!
At Last I See the Light and You'll Be in my Heart and Go the Distance were all written in 4/4 time, which is important when choosing how to compile songs into medley. However, Voctave's background subdivisions throughout the Phil Collins piece seem to have shifted to 4 (eighth-note)triplets and 4 eighth notes. For ease, I agree it would be best notated in 3/4, with the melody flowing across bars as needed. I don't think we caught their time-keep (I'm so bad with names) conducting in 4 during this song, so I can't be certain if they just practiced the phrasing independent of the beat of have actually changed time to 3/4 (minus Kirsten and Jeremy, who did not remain together much longer past this video, but are both now happy, married and raising families).
Yes!! I've been waiting for this reaction/ analysis! Voctave is amazing. This is definitely one of my all time favorites!!
To my ear, that second part is just common time (4/4), with the background vocalists on eighth notes with a two measure syncopated cycle. There's no weird layering of time signatures or anything, and it's surprisingly simple once you pick it up, but they're doing some interesting accenting and emphasis that makes it sound the way it does. Specifically, it's ONE and two AND three and FOUR and one AND two and THREE and FOUR and... etc. The syncopated emphasis is really cool, but fundamentally it's just eighth notes in common time.
yes, I have the sheet music for this. He was completely fooled by just a syncopated eighth note pattern with an extra rest here and there but it is 4/4 all the way. In fact, the only time signature changes are in the few measures of transition to the third song (6/4, 4/4, 2/4 and back to 4/4 for the rest of the song)
OMGOSH Mason made my 22 years of trying to read music much more understandable... I played Cello for 22 years and never really grasped how to read music. Time signatures always messed with me. I had to learn by ear just to play Twinkle Twinkle att 4 years old
Voctave is awesome! My inner Choir Geek always LOVES your reactions!
I think the musical theory term for the rhythmic illusion of combining duple and triple meters while really staying in 4/4 time is "hemiola". See mention of 'America' from "Westside Story" in the comments below.
Such an adorable reaction
This was probably the best reaction video I have ever stumbled across. I love Voctave and this medley and your reaction is amazing 😂
This was so much fun to watch! THANK YOU!
Beautiful sound and I love your enthusiasm. Thank you for the reaction. The occasional Voctave is always a treat.
That was so much fun, thank you Mortius and Mason...
I'd love to hear them do "sleep" or "fly" that he did. Both are originally done with virtual choir's. If you haven't checked that out I highly recommend it.
Also, God do I wish I'd had you as a music teacher when I was coming up. With your passion for music I think you might have been able to inspire me
to continue with my musical career.
First time watch. Absolutely awesome reaction video
Please do more voctave! Some of my favorites are their Disney Heroes and Villians Medley, which showcases the men, Show Yourself from Frozen 2, My Funny Valentine, and their Prince of Egypt Medley.
I think it's not just that the songs are written featuring the theme of love, but that they are sung because the songs are loved! Thank you for the reaction, and kudos to Mason for the analysis. :)
That's a Major 2nd Harmonic interval?
I think...? I'm doing this without tech support.
Kirsten holds the same note for half the phrase while Jeremy uses the 2nd, 3rd and octave unison to sing "this bond between us" melody.
In You'll Be in My Heart, Kirstin is singing in a straight 4/4 time signature while the background is also singing in 4/4 but they're rhythm are hemiolas where it's 3+3+2+2, similar to the song America from West Side Story.
I was looking forward to this reaction lol
Love your reaction to this. Side note though, and I mean this in a very nice way, but has anyone ever told you that you sound a little like Dan Povenmire (One of the creators of Phineas and Ferb and Doofensmirts in the show)? Just thought I’d ask because in some places I can really hear it.
Love your Voctave reactions. Please consider to audio song they perform. Prince of Egypt Medley and Being Alive featuring David Phelps. You will be even more amazed than usual. Voctave numbers may be low because most people don't understand the intricacies of A Capella music. You can explain and educate them about that and hopefully help people appreciate how great they are. Thank you for all you have taught me a seasoned Barbershop Baritone singer.
Best video ever
More Voctave! You will love Prince of Egypt.
I love their rendition of Someone Like You (from Jekyll and Hyde) featuring Jody McBrayer it makes me tear up every time, hope you react to it at some point if you haven't already?
I have to second this. McBrayer is incredible in that and Voctave as always unbelievable!
Obviously, your musical theory has been replaced by moving theory. Here's hoping you find a place soon, otherwise you will be staying in the state of confusion. Any reaction by you and Mason's interjections, are hilarious. Thanks.
I'm not really into Voctave (I've tried but I struggle for some reason) but I love watching you react to anything, Mortius. You're amazing. This was absolutely fabulous AND actually stopped me watching a recent Patreon-only release from our favourite Bass...just to watch your joy...
Sending love, luck and light to you 💗
This medley reminds me SO MUCH of another Disney medley you have to check out, Mortius. It's called Animazement, and it's Rachel Potter, Jamey Ray, and EJ Cardona singing three of my all-time favorite Disney songs (one of which is also included in this Voctave medley). PLEASE check it out, it may just break you. ruclips.net/video/_TuPkbyPOBw/видео.html
Mortius is very cute. ❤
I wonder if you caught it, at the very end Kate jumps from C#6 to F#6 :o I never realized that was a real note happening until I watched a video showing her vocal range. Great reaction! More voctave! :D
The easiest way to pronounce Kristen's last name is like this:
Mel-duh-nah-doe. I hope that helps. 😉
Nope its Mahl-doe-nah-do
Kirsten
@@fischmi2 no its Kirstin
You should react to voctaves oh come all ye faithful
After Bass Gang releases their next cover with Jonathan Young, you should listen to some of his solo work, or collabs with Caleb. I recommend "What Could Have Been" for solo, though it does feature a guitarist, and either "The Plagues" or "Deliver Us" for the collab (both from Prince of Egypt, might have gotten the names wrong).
I recommend Disney medley 2 cover exit with suhyun
Thank you for the help Mason. I agree with Mason, I think he broken.
Nice review of someone none stop talking.
Lol… 123 123 12, it’s still counted in 4 as all eighth notes. The harmony you were questioning was simply traveling thirds.
Except no one I know would ever actually count it as “ONE two three FOUR one two THREE four” because that’s a super weird place to have to emphasize. “ONE two three ONE two three ONE two” is how any conductor I’ve ever worked with would count that, because that’s what actually makes sense to the ear and to the emphasis
@@officialmortius lol … feel free to count it however you like. I have the score and Jamie wrote it in four (1/4 note = 98) and that’s how I would conduct it. It’s actually written as a 2 bar phrase that comes out to 123 123 123 123 12 12 with the 1 for the men and the 2 & 3 as the lady’s response.
Take a look at Voiceplay queen in 5 mins
It's pretty cool
To me it sounded like Kristen was in 4/4 and background was doing cut time
Do a reaction to Voctave's You will be found, Someone like you or This is my wish/let there be peace on Earth
13:30 Mason!?
Me!?
Mason is amazing!
You are so fun when you are mentally played-out! Good luck with the relocation! Moving, sucks rocks, but being homeless is loads worse. (Been there, done that twice, NOT going back.). The best thing about moving is new memories in new spaces. Big hugs to your family. PS: Your editor is exceptional.
You are too (what do the young kids say?) extra, with this video review for me.
I enjoyed your meltdown, but the time sig stays in 4 :p just that some accents in the ostinato fall on the offbeat.
Voctave breaks lots of people. No shame.
Get the sheet music from the Voctave page. The whole time signature thing you got bent on was 4/4 the whole way. Just eighth notes in a pattern with added eighth rests to give that rhythm. Just 4/4.
Sei molto simpatico e complimenti per la tua reazione al video, un saluto dall' Italia 😊
