All three songs are live songs--romantic love, selfless love, and self-love (get your minds out of the gutter, if you went there); all are essential facets of love, although each are expressed differently.
Yes, Jamey Ray (the arranger of the songs for Voctave) has mentioned that he wanted to show three different types of love, romantic love, familial love and self love.
It would be the thrill of a lifetime to be in that room with them. That said, imagine the added thrill that Jamey Ray must get as he hears his fabulous arrangement come to life with these unparalleled voices. Jamie is the tenor in the wine red shirt who writes all of their arrangements. Brilliant!
It is a love medley because Kirsten and Jeremy were engaged to be married at one point, but they never got married. I love the faces they give each other not only because of their love but because of their reactions to Voctave being so fabulous!
At the end, you two are correct. This was the first time Kirstin & Jeremy met Voctave. Some backstory Jamey gave some different interview videos, is that Kirstin is the one who actually reached out them him first. She heard his work (before they were Voctave), was very impressed and wanted to sing a love song (at the time, her & Jeremy were engaged, but they later called it off. Still friends from what I hear). So Jamey wrote this arrangement, and they all sang it, which is the video you watched. And ever since, PTX & Voctave have been friends, inviting the others to shows whenever their schedules allow time for it! Once in a blue moon, they publicly chat on live vids, or social media too. *EDIT: Almost forgot. Jeremy was actually the one who came up with the group name "Voctave". Jamey originally was going to name the group "8VA" (which i think means an octave up or down if I remember correctly). But then Jeremy suggested Voctave, as mix of vocal and octave. Since then, the name stuck. Which is funny because V in roman-numeral mean 5. And the group as a whole can cover 5 octaves!
Both Kirstin and Jeremy start smiling because of how big those notes that Kate's hitting are. So there you are you're watching the video I was going to point you to. You have to remember these two Kirsten and Jeremy, are used to singing around big voices. What they aren't around is a voice like Kate Lott's. I grew up with a voice just like that in my home. My mother was a classically trained Soprano who could hit those notes. Let me tell you if you aren't ready for them they trigger your startle reflex pretty good. Guess how she would wake me up as a teenager so I could make school on time?
@@TouchyReactions Yeah it was like having cold water thrown in you face. I know because I've had both done to me. At least with my mom there wasn't any clean up to be done. I miss her and the talks about music and singers we used to have.
I recently watched an interview with Jamey Ray and he said that before this song, they were just a bunch of recording artists that Jamey had hired. Jermey told him that they needed a name so that once the video came out, folks could find them. So this was their first official Voctave recording. Jermey also helped Jamey come up with their name at the same time. Very interesting interview. Saw one with Tiffany where she talked about Kristin contacting Jamey asking him to write something she could sing with her then boyfriend. So glad you watched the practice video. I loved their reaction to Kate. Just goes to show exactly how impressive she is.
This was actually recorded prior to Voctave officially forming... and there's just 8 singers rather than the current 11 --- in fact, it was Jeremy who suggested the name.
Voctave was officially a group at this point. It started with 9 members (everyone you see in this video plus Kurt). Chrystal and Karl were added just a tad later, then Aaron and Drew replaced Tony and JC in spring of 2021. Kurt said during one of his IG Live videos that he was present for the audio recording of this song but couldn't make it to the video shoot because of a conflicting Broadway audition.
Yes wow! I first heard this about 7-8 years ago. I was working in a call center and kept coming back to this song on Spotify. Kate's high soprano blew me away and I had to listen again and again. The sustained note at the end gave me chills.
I can't believe Kirstie held that last note so long. I counted 16 beats. Also, at the time of recording this, Kirstie and Michael were dating or possibly engaged. They did break up prior to marriage.
First, I commend both of you for your ability to hear the details in the vocals. I am so glad you are now hooked on Voctave so I can watch every one of your reactions to Voctave. Can I recommend; Disney's Park Medley, the Great Movie Medley, O Holy Night, Mary Did You Know, Where are you Christmas, Somewhere, Someday, All is Well... You are some of the few to recognize the "awe" of Kristin and Jeremy as they appreciate the experience of being in that room with such talent. Great job.
The first time I heard this medley, I was struck by Jeremy and Kirstin's faces and reactions (particularly to Kate). My "theory" was that they were so impressed by Voctave that they were a bit intimidated. AFTER seeing the medley several times, I learned of the practice clip. I'm SO glad you played that practice session! IMO, it confirmed my suspicion... Even with her excellent voice, and her success with PTX (and individually) I think Kirsten recognized that she was, for a RARE moment, NOT the "best in the room. She seemed so impressed and happy to be singing with such amazing vocalists! I also have to say that the two of you REALLY seemed to not only "enjoy the song," but you were thrilled with the "whole experience." REALLY thrilled. GREAT reaction and commentary!!
I heard a rumor that Kirstin and Jeremy might have been an item during this time, not sure, that's what I read on other posts, and it might confirm the sparkle at each other.
@@josephklimchock5412 No rumor... they were an item. Some say engaged, others say 'not yet,' but they were definitely a couple at the time! AND... they WERE quite cute together for this!
Loved your reaction! They are an absolute wall of sound. They sound absolutely wonderful live as well. ❤ Echo what someone else mentioned for Prince of Egypt medley, but you seriously can't go wrong with any of their stuff.
I adore how the more recent Disney movies have been about other kinds of love than romantic. "Lilo and Stitch" is about found family. "Moana" is finding balance between obligation to yourself and your people.
Great reaction! The love medley is romantic love, family love, self love. Also, my favorite of all is Voctave doing a collaboration with Mariachi Cobre (from Epcot) for "Remember Me" from Coco.
OMGGGGG Cindy. I am SO EXCITED to hear that you were a member of Sweet Adelines, even just for a season! I just passed the 25-year mark as a member of Sweet Adelines. And I actually just recently joined a hybrid group that is part in person (near Nashville) and online. (I am far away, so I'm an online-only member.) Singing a cappella is really fun!
I enjoy your reactions. If I can just ask you not to pause right in the middle of a note. You've got to know when to pause so that it doesn't kill the feeling. Pleeeaaase!!
Love Voctave! Even more impressive in person! Lots of good suggestions here, but I highly recommend “Someone Like You” with Jody Mcbrayer. It’s one of my favorites! It doesn’t get the love some of their other work gets for reasons I can’t figure out. I promise you’ll love it just as much as this!
Great reaction subscribed because of more Voctave reactions. Prince Of Egypt audio only will totally amaze you. You have to react to Somewhere too. Keep up the good work.
