You are absolutely correct that Voctave has a genius arranger. It's Jamie Ray, who also sings tenor in the group. He's the second man from the right in the burgundy colored shirt right next to the bass in the purple shirt. Jamie is featured in Voctave's "Disney Showstoppers Medley", which, of course, he arranged and also is well worth a reaction if you haven't already done it.

Jeremy and Kirsten are just marveling at the one soprano. There is a video out there where they are practicing this song and they just crack up when she hits that note. It's hilarious .

I believe that you are 100% correct. Every time someone says "they're so in love" due to facial reaction on JML's face, he's really just reacting to Kate (imo).
In that rehearsal video they looked like they lost their nerve for a moment when Kate hit a high note, as if she was upstaging them. By recording time they were ready to just go with it.

I’ve watched many Voctave reaction videos. You, sir, not only point out the music theory, arranging specifics and underlying techniques. But you are probably the only one I’ve seen point out Jeremy’s “in the moment capture of awestruck” for that, you get a sub and a standing ovation from me. 👏
Jamey Ray is also the founder of Voctave as well as their arranger. As I understand it, Kirstin was a huge Disney fan and Jamey was friends with Jeremy so Jeremy arranged this studio session as a surprise for her. They were engaged at the time but called it off before the wedding.
That first soprano, Kate Lott, I think is hitting an F6 and holding it all the way through. Many of the Voctave members are past or present members of Voices of Liberty who sing at the American Pavillion in EPCOT at WDW. I heard them last month and was privileged to meet Kate between performances. She is as sweet and friendly as she is talented.

Great reaction. I don't like it when the person who reacts just says "wow!" and nothing else comes out. Jarvis does a great job commenting on specific passages, pointing out their unusualness and uniqueness. Kirsten and Jeremy met on the show The Sing Off he was in one of the other acapella groups competing against Pentatonix. They are no longer together. Voctive had only 8 members at the time. They now have 11 and are even better. 2 sopranos, 3 altos ,3 tenors, 3 basses. Of course most all can sing 2 or 3 parts.

Fun fact Michael, Voctave actually had 9 members at the time. Kurt, the tall baritone, recorded the audio for this track but couldn't be there for the video, so he's in this one without actually being there.

@@michaellegacy477 well, JC has a really powerful voice but there's no way he could sing loud enough to compensate. Kurt sings in unison with him for almost the whole thing.
@@charliecampbell6851 You are a wealth of knowledge Charlie. I sing bari in a barbershop chorus and quartet so can usually pick out the bari part. Kurt is a bari that also sings bass, like me. I can also sing the lead and tenor. I have good range. Would love to sing a song with them. Thank you for your knowledge.

I am sure Kirstin appreciated Voctave but yes it was another day at work for her. At this point she had won two Grammys with Pentatonix and they had sung on both the AMA and the Grammy award shows. After she and Jeremy broke up she went on to star on Broadway as Lauren in Kinky Boots.
Pentatonix released a Christmas album last year that featured Voctave in the song "Once Upon a December".
Unfortunately because of the pandemic only one video was shot for it. "My Favourite Things". Kirstin sings lead and the video is fantastic and so fun.

right! that last chord at the end sounded really weird in my musician ears. I literally tilted my head to the side, just like you did, when I heard that a few days ago haha for a moment it made me think that Jamie must have done something wrong with the arrangement of that part, but still, it was an eargasm for me. got addicted to it, kept repeating the video just to hear it again.

I just recently discovered Voctave, and they are...something else. Words don't really do them justice. Each one of them is amazing individually, and as a group, they are even better. If I am to recommend one of their songs for a reaction, it would be the Disney Princess Medley. Each one of the ladies has a solo in that one, so it's a great way to discover just how good each one of them are. The first thing people tend to notice about Voctave is the first soprano, Kate Lott, as she's the one with the highest notes, but it turns out the rest of them are pretty much on the same level within their respective ranges.

Nothing need be said about Voctave, and yes Kristen and her man were indeed an item at this time. If they are still together, I couldn't say. Been singing since I was 6 years old, a total of 72 years and counting, and have NEVER heard a group as skilled as Voctave. Love your sensible reactions instead of the gushing pap we get from most other reactors.

Jeremy & Kirstie's breakup was a nasty one. Let's just say, he is not the good guy that he pretends to be on camera and he did something that totally crushed her. That's all I'll say on the subject...except that it has made it VERY difficult for me to watch any video that he is in now. For Kirstie, it was good riddance to bad rubbish. She is WAY better off without him in her life.

Yeah. This is a lesson that it is not always easy to spot a good con. He had a lot of people fooled. Fortunately, Kirstie found out before it was too late. He could sing and play the part. But he was playing.
Re the "She's been here before" comment; there's a video floating around of them all practising around the piano, obviously the first time Voctave have got together with Kirstin and Jeremy, and when Kate starts reaching the stratosphere they both end up totally corpsing.
Actually, you are on of the few that actually get it regarding Jeremy. Most of his reactions are exactly as you say and every time Kate hit a high note, he freaks! I mean, yeah, he wuz in luv and all that but mainly he can’t believe that he is there, doing that, with them! And THANK YOU for NOT singing along the way many of the vocal Coach reactors do.!
This reaction is superb...love seeing someone enjoy it and not just meticulously breaking it down, etc.
Interesting that you are able to pick up and read this group so well. Engaged at the time but no more, Kirstie and Jeremy were definitely in love here and it showed. Also correct that Kirstie is used to singing with greatness, being on stage with Pentatonix. However, this was probably the biggest "stage" Jeremy had been on to that point and the talent here just blew him away; he never gets over that "just pinch me" reaction that you see throughout. Interestingly, the behind-the-scenes video of the rehearsal to this, Kirstie and Jeremy both react but she's able to obviously adjust faster and take the musical greatness surrounding her in stride thru her performance. I almost expect to actually hear Jeremy laugh during the video. All that being said, Jeremy can sing and hold his own quite well here or I expect he wouldn't have been in this, no matter who he was dating at the time.

The genius arranger is Jamey Ray jameyray.net (one of the members of Voctave). The "ad libs" were actually mixes from the prior song -- Jeremy sings a line from Tangled in the Tarzan ad-lib. Jeremy was a member of the a cappella group the AcoustiKats who competed in The Sing-Off the year after PTX won the contest. The dazed and amazed looks from Jeremy and Kirstin were all because of Kate Lott (the amazing soprano hitting those ethereal high notes).
I think you'd really enjoy the Voctave arrangement of "The Carol of the Bells of Notre Dame". It's Christmas-y but they really have fun with it with sight gags to draw a laugh while they lay an unbelievable performance on you. ruclips.net/video/dYtlzWE1YUU/видео.html
