Rachel, could you tell me just what it is that causes crypts to 'melt'? Because oddly enough, in my Flex 9, that was the sole plant that took immediately to the tank, while all the others struggled with melt. It's been a bit of a nightmare, that tank, because of the variety of algae problems and struggling plants. All through it, the crypts have powered through, only losing maybe a single leaf or two over several plants, and I think they were more physically damaged by moving the wood a bit. If I knew what the crypts were loving so much, I could see if it was something the Amazon sword, ludwigia repens, dwarf sag (I think, it was unlabelled at the LFS), polyspermia and so on were not liking... As always, thanks for the wonderful tour through the fish room and tips along the way!

one trick I learned to increase humidity for indoor plants is to put gravel in the bottom of the plant trays and then add water into the tray...the gravel keeps the pot out of standing water and prevents the soil in the pot from getting water logged. Another fantastic video! I am in love with the 150 Hillstream, and your plants on the plant wall look fantastic! I have my wabi kusa (which I learned from you) and an aquarium nearby my plant stand and I think my houseplants do benefit from the heightened humidity. I am totally entranced by the BiOrb! That hairgrass is so flowy and stringy, love it! I had a really great carpet of e.montevidensis goingbin my 55 before, but when my Dwarf lily took off I didn’t fertilize enough and the lily choked out the hairgrass’s nitrogen needs and it slowly died back.
I look at your hillstream with envy! I wanted to do something similar as well. You have a beautiful set up of aquariums and plants. Love it all. What you are calling bio-orbs looks a lot like the terrariums that I had some years back. They were a challenge to keep moist as well.
Rachel I have seen other YTer aquarists having issues with hair algae and what they did was add some floating plants like salvinia, frogbit, red root floaters, watersprite, to cut down on the amount of light reaching the bottom ot the tank and that seemed to cleat up the algae problems they were having.
"Visually disruptive" lol. I'm adding that to my lexicon. Right along with "visual pollution". I just found your channel - new subscriber.
