I've been so excited to share this one and hope you all enjoy it. It will be interesting to see and document how they develop from here. Have a great weekend SerpaSquad!
Such beautiful fish in beautiful setup. My first fish I bought was common betta fish pair and I ended up taking care of 150 ish babies as a total amateur. It was hard work, but it was joy to see them grow. Females were fine kept together in a tank. They are like puppies, watching what people do and following anything that moves. Bettas are the fish that we can guess their emotions. I’m looking forward to your updates of the breeding project.
Interesting to see the IMMEDIATE change from stress and panic to "hey, this is pretty chill" as soon as they passed the threshold of the acclimation container. What an interesting fish, looking forward to updates on them in the future!
Shows how intelligent they are imo Most fish would be farting for cover (and a couple of them did) or swimming up against the glass, but these guys were just chill
I work at one of those big box pet stores and you would not believe how many times a day I have to tell people “you cannot put multiple betta fish in the same tank” and they don’t even listen to me. Anyways, these betta are beautiful, the other sub species of betta have always fascinated me and I am so glad you decided to start this project with some!
@@SeaGlassSkeleton maybe you can post the warning near them, or print the warning on sticker labels and put them on each tiny container. Female bettas are okay to keep together, and these days, females are pretty and colorful, too.
@marikah6198 if they're at a big box store, they likely cannot due to corporate rules. They're money to companies and they want to sell them regardless of what happens to them. Employees on a personal scale care a hundred times more but are often than not trapped in rules.
@@marikah6198 I brought the idea of a sorority up in a betta group and had pretty bad reactions tbh with most people saying they wouldn't attempt one in less than a 60 gallon and that too only 3 females
@ffxfgxsfxxxg2419 I think it's possible but not really worth it, definitely puts them under unnecessary stress because most people don't do it properly
@@marikah6198 I’m not 100% certain, but I’m pretty sure their containers typically do have warnings, as do the little info labels in front of their displays (I mean I know for a fact bettas are pretty much the only fish where each individual is in an isolated container regardless). Unfortunately, people just don’t read those and the ones that do don’t always care :/
I've been watching this man and it's channel since the beginning of the Pandemic.......He has come such a long way. He is so comfortable doing videos. If you look at his first videos compared to now.....its like night and day. Love this channel and always learn something new.
Thank you for raising the environmental issue we currently facing in Indonesia. Large-scale conversion of tropical forests to oil palm plantations can destroy habitats for endangered species and wildlife
Yes! Ecosia did a video where they took a temperature reading in a palm plantation, and nearby in a natural forest. The natural forest was much cooler. Activists need to turn up the pressure against palm oil in consumer products. Hemp seed oil is healthier, and it's a crop that's better for farms than current cotton, corn, or soy, and replaces all 3 of those crops with less fertilizer, water, and pesticides. Countries like Nepal used to feed themselves with hemp. The US global ban on hemp led to so many problems. Solve palm problems with hemp!
@@Nphenactivists need to crank up their anti-imperialism rhetoric. These countries don’t want to have to destroy their forests for monoculture cash crops, but the western imperial powers leave them no choice. We’re heading further down the path of forced neo-colonialism here in the US partly because the public here don’t know how bad our foreign policies have been for the global south. It’s time to stop blaming Palm farmers and consumers and start focusing on the root causes of these problems; foreign policy and lack of corporate oversight and environmental policy.
First betta colony video I've seen that had a reasonable number of bettas in the tank. I hope they pair up quickly and have lots of healthy young to support their species!

You could almost hear the fish's thoughts as they hit the black water: "Amazing!" Look at the last one's little face... very expressive. This is what I love about bettas, their personalities.
Love the natural layout of your aquarium, and the species you chose to inhabit it makes it perfect. Thanks for sharing it.Your videos are always high quality.
Thank You Tanner for recognizing that many species of fish (and other amphibians, reptiles, birds and plants) have gone extinct in the wild, and it is essential that they are allowed to continue living in captivity in the hands of caring zoologists and responsible breeders. Maybe someday they could make it to the wilderness again, but until that day, we must recognize that they haven't vanished completely from the planet due to people like you. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge!
America has enough farmland acres to help the globe put a stop to palm oil. The US wastes some 20 million acres on fuel ethanol corn. Those acres could feed millions of people if hemp were grown there. Start petitions to get companies to end palm oil. Get people talking about US foreign policy targeting Brazilian beef & soy, and Indonesian palm oil plantations. There's more than enough money in the US military budget to pay people in these countries to do something else besides destroy the rainforest. I’ve been watching your videos consistently for over a year now, and I really appreciate how you’re constantly try to get better at your craft. Whether it’s building up tanks or editing your videos. I can say it’s been awesome to watch. This video is one of your best!

Most RUclipsrs out there, you can easily spot who doesn't know a thing about fish. In your case, the detail and love for the animals shines always, and its refreshing to see this in 2024. I adore betta fish. They are a genuine pleasure to keep; they have such big personalities and they're all so unique minus one underlying similarity: they always recognize you as the food giver and have never seen food in their life even if just fed 3 minutes ago.... and they actually enjoy human attention. I'm not sure if there's a more curious, bold species out there. If you want to keep multiple fancy bettas (lord knows they've been bred to a million fin and color combinations and honestly, how can you keep just one?) set up a wall of identical 10 gallon cuubes and put blockers in between the tanks :) You can extend the aquascape across them and implement a gradient of color/style/whatever if you like too! A super worthy fish for first-time keepers. They need good, warm water and plants, but the poor things can survive in hellish conditions so they are forgiving of a first timer's inevitable mistakes. Just be on the watch for fin rot and treat appropriately and QUICKLY (as in, buy the medication when you buy the fish, it's alarming how quickly finrot can melt a fin) and resist the temptation to overfeed them cuz those eyes were made for begging lol.
I'm not a new keeper, and to this day, one of my most triumphant moments was keeping 3 male bettas (the standard ones) in a 55 gallon together. It was definitely an exercise in finding the right individuals, making sure that there was enough coverage for them all to establish their own territories, and keeping a close eye on them all to move someone if they caused havoc. I kept that tank for a long while, and it was really cool.
Thanks for the video, Tannner. I lost my female plakat betta to dropsy this week. She was in a planted, tannin filled tank, but she always seemed stressed even though I tried various things. I think she finally wore her immune system down. Seeing your bettas happy and thriving, made me feel happier, so thankyou

So happy to see bettas in the animal room! I haven't been able to keep an aquarium in years (moving around too much) but bettas have always been my favorites; they're beautiful, ferocious, intelligent, and playful! And I especially love to see some love given to species other than B. splendens. As wonderful as they are, bettas are such a cool family of fish and come in such variety!
😭😭 bro has improved his story and editing styles SO MUCH since just moving to the new house! I am so glad I found this channel when I did and that I've stuck along for the ride, can't wait to see what's next 💙
On the aquarium sand, I spent about an hour rinsing about 2kg of sand for a small aquarium set up a few weeks ago, and it still wasn't running clear by the time I got frustrated and gave up. The first 20-25 rinses might as well have been coffee, so I can say I've noticed the same, it seems dirtier. It was brand name, expensive sand as well, that I had bought in hopes to avoid the excessive rinsing...
Sir! I have been watching your videos for a long long minute and I have noticed with growing delight the increasing quality of your videos! It’s absolutely amazing to see how far you’ve come!! So happy to be able to watch a professional perfect their craft! Also! You’re hilarious. 😂
This is one of the most beautiful builds I’ve ever seen. The tank is perfect-not just because of the way it looks, but you can really tell it’s a tank made for the fish and specifically for the kind of fish that they are. Wild bettas are so beautiful, this has really inspired me to do more research on community bettas for a blackwater setup I’m hoping to start next year. Your bettas seem so happy. Serpa squad forever lol
Thanks to life and working overseas, I haven't been able to have aquariums for about a decade, and I miss fishkeeping so very much. Tank tech has evolved so much just in that time, I was feeling out of touch until I came across your channel. I find your videos educational, informative, and inspiring - I can't wait to be back in my home country [Australia] where I plan to set up a native Australian river tank, a planted danio + tetra tank, a shrimp tank and a marine tank. I really enjoy the content you make around desiging and establishing tanks - as I said, technology and scaping for tanks has changed so much in the last ten years, I don't even know where to start! Thanks for what you do, and I look forward to seeing more of it.

I love the little flashes of color right behind their heads
Absolutely adore your videos! 💯
A fan from the Philippines. 🇵🇭
I’m so glad you’re showing more of your silly side lately! It’s nice to see you coming more and more out of your shell❤
Absolutely amazing to see such a unique setup. Still amazes me to see how you are able to create environments I can only picture in my head.
I love this video. Growing up my dad used to raise bettas. Now in my older age, I started fish keeping and I was like "gosh things changed." It seemed so easy when he did it
Exactly it always makes my weekend when you upload a video thank you for all the content you put out and for all the hard work you do for us as fish enthusiast and you take care and peace
