    I love this tank so much! Activity at every level and in every nook and cranny. What low tech plants do you think I should add?

      There is probably a very affordable tinted filter you could screw over the top of your lens to counter the warmer temperature of your led lights. I would first look for the k value of your leds. And if it were me I think the quickest answer could be found through a camera store's customer service. As B&H has always been helpful when I have a question on ordering items. Of course it would also be easy to adjust the color temperature with editing software. One problem, if being particular, is mixed lighting. For example outdoor lighting and interior lights in the shot. Anywho, great video as always and I didn't personally have an issue with lighting. Look forward to updates on how this tank progresses and to see what plants you get a hold of to add.

      You could do potted Echinodorus like 'Reni' for a dash of red. You could also add some Crinums into the tank with the same method. Maybe even Lagenandra Meeboldii.

    Your hillstream tank was always a pleasure to look at; lots of different fish in all the different locations. I really like the gobies.
    I definitely agree on the big tank small fish thought. Having a group or school of fish is such an awesome sight :-) and you can stock different layers and colours, it just gives so many options.

    Hello Rachel. I really like the natural feel. I appreciate the fact that you give a lot of importance to the fish being comfy and in a environment that feels good to them. I see a lot of very nice aquascaper's work but sometimes i feel the health and wellbeing of the fish is last on their list. Great work and great ethics !!!

    Hey Rachel,
    subscriber 684 here, I love your Hillstream tank. I've had one one hold for years waiting for a time when my nephew Tyler can come down and set it up with me. He collected rocks for in Pennsylvania for me a long time ago. He was a wonder kid, I remember him calling me up when he was 8 and saying "uncle Chris, I think I'd like to set up a brackish tank" Imagine that an 8 year old knowing what a brackish is.

    I LOVE this tank. I have a 55 gallon tank I am still tweaking that was inspired by your hillstream tank. I need more micro environments - more rock piles, more plants, more natural caves. It a work in progress for sure. I love the nano fish. I really want to turn my 75 gallon into a hillstream tank. Right now it is home to my derpy goldfish and some guppies that road in on the duck weed. The goldfish may get an indoor pond. I have a large enough outdoor pond for them (100 gallons), but it's above ground (I rent) and I fear it will get to cold for them about 3 months out of the year if I left them outside. I'm still thinking on it. LOL.

    You might try using one of the inexpensive pond pumps that push like 1,000 gph from Home Depot o cost even less at Harbor Freight..and just use that to make a very strong current for 4-6 hours a day on a timer. Maybe channel it between large smooth rocks..so fish can move away if they need too. An idea I've meant to do for years.

    Vallisneria...just made for waving in the current of a stream tank. I also really like dwarf Anubias nana...its just has the look of a rock or root hugging plant in a stream bank.
    Did you know Rachel that the dwarf Neanthe bella Palms will grow fine with roots in water? Something if you want to carry the look out of the tank. Syngonium vine thrives also..you can get that in green,silver,or even pink leaves. My green has really did a number on algae..just sucking out all the nutrients ( well,most) the algae was using.
    I want to try the Palm idea myself. I've seen photos of them growing in water in habitat..shallows in shade. Never until seeing another utuber growing them indoors like that had the idea to try it.

    Try Lagenandra meeboldii. Buceplant has one that they are calling "red long" that is like a large fast growing Cryptocoryne. The tops of the leaves range from dark green to dark red but the undersides are sort of a coppery color. Very cool. Lagenandra meeboldii 'Red' is great too. In high light it will turn a pink color but in lower light it is a beautiful almost florescent green. They do well in low tech and high tech tanks.

  • @craigathonian5755
    @craigathonian5755 5 лет назад

    BEAUTIFUL !.... As for the plants with color ? Good luck ! Most non-green plants need an over abundence in some food elements for them to give up their "money maker" chlorophyll cells. The low tech way,( no Co2 ) is to have a nutrient rich substraight with emphasis on iron,( red clay ). In this set up i would pot-up some red species of Echinodorus and place it in the center arrangement on the left side. This will raise up the plant closer to the light source; stimulating red cells to grow. The scaping materials and epiphytes can hide the pot and still look natural. Also, the sword plant will act as a light filter for the aubias and ferns to stop the algae growth. The Crypt family is also sensitive to color change with more nutrients at the roots. Some easy stem plants with great color are some varieties of Hygrophila polysperma and Rotala. For the lighting, the best budget led"s are the ones that are 5000K and above. ( It's a little cold looking, but the full spectrum gives the plants all they need.) More money... LED's with at least White, Blue, and Red, With red being the least. Hope this helps. . . Cheers !

    Consider adding some Cryptocoryne Flamingo/Pink Panther and Cryptocoryne Striolata.

    Hi Rachel, Chany from Toronto Canada. I love your channel!!! I just started this hobby because my kids wanted to have a fish tanks at home and I think I love this more than they do. What is your advice about driftwood. Can I put a piece of wood from the woods inside my fish tanks? I have seen so many videos in youtube and everybody say something different. I went to my local petshop and the driftwoods are insanely expensive. What is your advice about this?
