My CPD tank has a pretty full carpet of dwarf sag. I've always found my CPDs spawning in the "grass". I wait several days until I think there are fry then use a siphon tube and gently press it down on the sag... Into a 2 gallon bucket... wait a bit and check with a flashlight. There's usually a few each time up to about 5. They then spend time in a Marina breeding box (hang on) until they can join the tank again. Last noticed spawn I raised about 27. There is healthy shrimp population in the tank now (culls) but recently I saw two young ones join the group. It's fun to have tanks of fish that repopulate themselves! Most of the fish I have were born in house.

Ha ha ha! I agree wholeheartedly :D
I came for the species spotlights and stayed for Rachel and her family! Really the only RUclipsr I consistently watch and admire. None of the content is stale and I'm always learning new things from our Fishpimp! Plus her tanks are just stunning. She's the best aquarist on the internet, bar none.

I love my CPDs. They are quite beautiful, and while they don't school, they are always chasing each other around and showing off to each other. The males are total nutcases, they make my tank really active.

These guys are on my list to breed for years. We got the Ember tetra breeding down pat now. Mum bought her special guppy varieties. Now I am on the lookout for the next breeding project for the greenhouse. SLOWLY building a business. So hard to do without getting into debt, LOL.

When I was breeding these guys I had them in a 10 gallon with a dwarf hairgrass carpet. Every day there would be new fry on the top of the tank, I'd just scoop them and put em in their own 5 gallon. Super easy!

I ordered Chili Rasboras for a planted 20 long 9 months ago. They were SUPER tiny and all looked the same until they started to mature and color up. Out of the 7 Chili's, one ended up being a Phoenix rasbora. I am pleased to report I have had 4 babies...but...they are ALL Phoenix rasboras...look just like Mom! So now out of 11 fish, I have 6 Chili's and 5 Phoenix. Not exactly the original plan but I'll take it!

Right on! Thanks again for your take on this! (Have you noticed that there is a strain or location that has orange and yellow fins? I was wondering if it was a human selected traight, or some natural variant.)
I Also LOVE breeding CPD and Erythromicrons. I have a couple videos on the colony breeding and also breeding over marbles or screens. However, it's my favorite, to colony breed in a 10 or 20L and plant it well on the bottom with moss and dense plants. I know some people get upset- but i also think hybrids of the two look really neat also.

Yes, would be interested re the D. Cichlids, I've never had Cichlids. And I am sooo jealous of the fact that you caught that fish so easily. Ha! The very idea of catching my fish to move them and then catching them again to move them back...hysterical!! The guppy grass did not work for the rosies btw, but interestingly (can't remember if I already told you this), my Chili Rasboras, clearly took advantage as I had 10 brigittae in the Boraras school and now there are 12. I would reallllly like more Rosies however...and you have none on your list boo hoo. I guess I'll have to dump in some more plants and try yet again :) Yes to more videos like this one.

The only way to make a few into many. I was king of Tiger barb and Arulius barb breeding back in the late 80's. I used to have a 50 gallon..no filter, just light and White Clouds bred and a few would survive to the point it was like a neon tank. As long as the Java moss grew thick.

Speaking of breeding CPD. I have two pairs in my 10g tank. Recent I have been getting 30 or so eggs weekly. All of them turned white. How come these eggs are not fertilized? Could it be the temperature is not warm enough? The tank has no heater, the night temperature is around 68F. Thank you!

I'm actually getting a breeding group of L450s that apparently was sourced from you arriving tomorrow, super excited for the Hypancistrus adventures! Would love any advice/tips you have about these guys, I've been researching tons, and I'm still reading only very vague articles. Would love to hear your personal experiences!

Dang, those Filament Tetras are looking mad sexy. I love breeding the non-annual West African killifish. Spawn like crazy and most of them don't bother the fry. Feeding fry can be tricky, but if you have live moss there is usually sufficient infusoria to get them going post hatch until they can take larger food. Vinegar Eels, microworms and baby brine will grow them faster but, not necessary if you're just doing it for the fun of breeding.

Hey Pimpy,.. what type barbs were those in the tank nxt to the white clouds???Odessa Barbs correct?? I purchased 7@ lfs few days ago, lady said they were Blue bar barbs, then went on to say they were checker board barbs? i was like umm,.. noo i don't believe those are the correct name but she sold them to me for $1.99 the Blu barb price. happy about that but wasn't 100% on the species type. Also curious how to sex them, are females a plain drab color or are they same as males?
The content is very educational. I always luv to watch new vids.!!
Although i will say that i never have much luck with CPD's. They always die within a week whenever i've bought locally, i may have to reach out further in the breeding community for a start of a good stock. Do u sell any? I'd be interested if so,.. Again thx for the upload!! Keep doing what u do best;)

About breeding apistos... I just set up 2 pairs of Apistogramma baenschi, one pair is still young so it might not happen for a while, and with the other pair the male has gotten hyper aggressive towards the female. I’ve spoken to other apisto keepers and they said it is not out of the ordinary and that I just need to give them some time. I hate seeing the female being all skittish and dull though :(

I've only managed to successfully breed two species and both were by accident lol The first ones were blue Mickey mouse platies. I bought 4 females and one male. In a week I had double in 3 months I had over 100! The other species were albino peppered corydoras. Only got one baby to survive because they always eat the eggs but then again I wasn't really trying to breed in the first place. Also I think I might've bred my otocinclus? I started with 6 and now I always count 8 so unless they're cloning themselves I might have actually bred them accedently? Lol I have no idea!

You can order micro/walter worms online to feed them in the mean time and have those as back up food in the future. Just keep the colony alive. Or you can make an infusoria culture as well. Check out Mark's Aquatics on YT for breeding those and Aquarium Co-Op for breeding vinegar eels/worms also for feeding baby and adult fish.

Have tried a few times to get some baby corys. Even with an air stone the eggs still mold. What can I try? 🤷🏼‍♀️
