Just a heads up. Once you downloaded the app, you do not need to have Alexa or a Google home or any other speaker. On the page where he's choosing which device to use, look down a little bit farther and there's a spot there that says "I don't have a device". Pick that and It'll walk you through the steps to set up. As far as I can tell, you can't set timers this way, but you can set up the light bulb color, brightness, etc. it was just function like a normal light bulb after that. Make sure when you're setting up the bulb, once it starts trying to connect, turn the bulb off and then on again and it should find it pretty quickly. Because it uses Bluetooth you have to be fairly close to the bulb during setup with your phone or tablet.
Thanks for the video. I was trying to set them up in the google home app by linking the Sylvania account. Once I added it the way you showed, works great now. Thanks!
Just an FYI, be sure that your Google Home and Android phone are on the same WiFi. They will need to be both on either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz for the setup to complete properly. Thank you to "The Pinoy In Canada" for this tutorial.
@@thepinoyincanada i managed to get it working after a lot of pain and frustration. basically, bulb needs firmware update first to be compatible with app only use, but Apple iPhone is the only device that doesn't crash while updating. so Android users must borrow a friends iPhone, update the bulbs firmware on their phone, then delete the app, and reconnect on Android app. after that, it works flawlessly on Android app, but each bulb will need to connect to an Apple iPhone first. i even tried on a brand new top of the line Acer Chromebook and no dice. it just simply needs Apple IOS to update for some reason.
No, you do not need an Alexa or Google home or any kind of speaker. What you do need is a phone/device that has Bluetooth and the app. when you're in the setup page if you scroll down just a little bit farther you will see an option that says "No smart speaker". Choose that and it will walk you through basic Bluetooth setup on your phone or tablet. Keep in mind that your Wi-Fi is irrelevant with the setup. There are two kinds of bulbs... one that uses Wi-Fi and one that uses Bluetooth. The OP is showing you the Bluetooth version of these which are sold at Dollarama. In order to adjust the bulbs in any way after setup, you will need to bring your phone, tablet or whatever Bluetooth device you're using to set up the bulb back within range of the bulb (should connect within a couple of feet of the bulb) Wi-Fi does not matter. When's it reconnects, you can then make any adjustments that you feel are necessary. Keep in mind that Bluetooth has a pretty short range. If your phone/device or speaker is more than a few feet away, it may have trouble connecting.
They set up a Bluetooth mesh network. So you need to have a bulb like 20 feet from a google mini. And then you can add another bulb within 20-40 feet from that, etc etc. Imagine a bubble coming off the speaker and any bulbs you have. They have to be able to connect to each other even if that means being relayed by something in-between.
