    With 26 years experience as a photographer, mostly in the advertising space, I find that the 24-70 and the 70-200 are my Swiss Army Knives and this is what I have stuck to for about 15 years out of 26 years. Simply cannot go wrong with quality glass. I think that Sony, Canon and Nikon all make great professional glass and it's simply a matter of preference. All the best.

    As a person who's recently started their first full time Design and Photography role, and upgrading from a canon 60d to a sony a7ii, whenever I do photography for work I keep that kit lens on because it is so versatile and all the photos look great for clients. Especially helps that I'm taking landscape shots essentially so my f/stop is always going to be fairly high for that tac sharp look. Still have a couple of primes though for my own little fun photography walks though

    I love my tamron 28-75. Used to really take the whole zoom with your feet philosophy to heart, but realized that I walk around a lot regardless of the lense. My eyes are always darting all over the place for compositions and I eventually got tired of having to play musical chairs because the specific prime I had wasn't what I needed. 135mm primes are pretty much the only ones I love with no question though lol.

  • @Ladymusicc

    I use both Prime and Zoom lenses simply for versatility. Zoom lenses never stopped me from moving around or getting creative, but they have helped me to be able to stand in one area and get different shots. Comes in handy when you're limited at where you can stand in a room or area.
    Also this was super informative and interesting to watch. First video I've ever seen of yours and I subscribed.

    Since getting the RF 28-70 f2, I rarely use any other lens. Prime quality in a zoom, even at f2 it’s perfect wide range. Perfect all day, street, wedding, portrait lens. Probably best lens ever created in that regards.
    I also own a few others but this is the first zoom that convinced me zooms can be abbettele option than primes

    I've been using lately the 50mm 'cause I can get a deep background separation, a beautiful bokeh, close ups without distortion and with just a step I can get a full body angle. But it's hard to stay with only one lens. 35 + 85 or 24 + 50 is better to me.

    I love prime lenses. I prefer to use only primes, not sure what it is. It's not the option for wider apertures (though that helps in certain situations), since I'm anyway often stop down, since I most often shoot architecture. BUT, the most used lens I've used has always been a 24-70mm zoom lens. Right now I'm shooting with Nikon and the 24-70mm f4 S is constantly on the camera. I'm saving for the 14-30mm f4 S, which might become the main lens, but with the 24-70mm I'm both able to do wide angle shots (even though I need to go even more wide than 24mm) and get detail shots. I also use it for my portraits, with the same issues, but still. It's just such an amazing zoom lens, which I'd almost always recommend people to get their hands on as soon as possible.

    • @pabloalvaradolopez3941
      @pabloalvaradolopez3941 2 года назад +2

      If you are using a 90D is not the same effect, bcuz she's talking all the time about full frame cameras (90d is APSC camera), and that means that if you start to use a 24-70 lens with your 1.6x cropped sensor, will really get a 38-112 lens, not so versatile for wide angle shots.
      But there's an option! I very love the Sigma Art 18-35 f1.8 , and his brother 50-100 f1.8 . Both are really sharp at f1.8 aperture and totally RAZOR sharp at f2.8 😍 With the 18-35 you will have, in fact, a 28-56. With the 50-100 you will have, in fact, a 80-160.
      The 90D is an excellent DSLR APSC cameras (maybe the best), and apsc doesn't have so much to envy to Full Frame in terms of crop factor. Enjoy taking pictures bro, and stay always positive and creative with your actual gear, one step at a time is the real key! 💪🏼📷

  • @wojt4spes

    One note, you are just focusing on focal lengths coverage of the zoom, but not taking max aperture into consideration. We discuss 24-70, but on the video you are shooting primes. So, although all focal lenghts are covered by that zoom, results are not going to be the same as the prime lens.

    Getting the optimal focal length for a given scene/shot is probably going to be more valuable artistically than having that last bit of sharpness or less chromatic abberation, and no matter how much a prime will make you use your feet, you're still locked to the look of that one focal length.
    Zoom all day.

    • @rec11fdc
      @rec11fdc 2 года назад

      I agree, but only in a professional setting. In most other settings I think the benefits of prime lenses are far better than that of zooms. You lose some flexibility, but especially with vintage primes that have very low element counts and older coatings, pictures just look so much better. I really dislike how modern zooms (and some primes too) are so surgical about the details, giving poorer rendering of colours, or textures in the case of black and white. Also, with older primes, they're so small and light (and still so much better built than modern lenses) that it's easy to carry a couple and change lenses when needed.

    • @itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837
      @itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837 2 года назад

      @@rec11fdc It's great that you feel that way, let's change that!
      Is color rendition really that much worse in a good zoom these days, and are you referring to a workflow without any color correction in post? I'm mainly referring to the modern lenses that most people will end up choosing between (probably because they can autofocus), and I would personally not fault a lens for being surgical when it comes to rendering details.
      While I do agree that older primes can be small and light, there still remains the psychological hurdle of actually taking the time/effort to change the lens, and who's to say that the ideal field of view/compression for your shot coincides with the focal length of the few primes you have with you?
      I would say this applies to hobby photography as well, not just in a professional setting.

    • @rec11fdc
      @rec11fdc 2 года назад

      @@itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837 Oh yes it is so much worse. It's about microcontrast, not much you can do about it in post either. Photos from decades ago lacked all the detail and colour correction of the photos we see today, and yet you look at them and you still see that "pop" they have even today. The "ideal field of view" is rarely an issue, 10mm (or more) longer or shorter in most cases will not make the difference between two pictures and on one of the sides you can always crop. I can change lenses in less than 30 seconds, and as a hobbyist I'm not pressured to grab every photo nor am I in a rush. As for it applying to the hobbyist I think you should take into account cost as well. I have 4 prime lenses and could get another 2 for the price of that 24-70. All these primes will last me a lifetime since there's no autofocus, stabilizing system or even zoom mechanism to break. So all in all, primes take better pictures, are smaller and are much more cost effective than zooms, in my opinion.

    • @itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837
      @itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837 2 года назад

      @@rec11fdc I doubt I could reliably pick out a MODERN zoom from a MODERN prime if subjected to an A/B test, especially after artistic post processing.
      I don't know about vintage lenses, but the discussions online lead me to believe that the effects of micro contrast are not clear enough in practice to be an uncontroversial subject in forums (many even call it a myth, though probably unfairly). It's probably not something I'd ever choose over having autofocus, so old lenses are off the table for me.
      I also hate having to change lenses (trying not to get dust in there, losing even 30 seconds, and keeping track of loose camera parts when I'm in the moment).
      And the cost is less of an argument if you're putting it up against modern primes with autofocus, as I believe most will.
      I've watched comparisons of (good) zooms vs primes on RUclips and not - even pixel peeping - found the best zooms lacking in sharpness or color, and that's what changed my opinion.

    • @rec11fdc
      @rec11fdc 2 года назад

      @@itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837 Well, this is why I said in my opinion. I'm not trying to change yours like you are mine. Autofocus is redundant for me as I prefer to focus myself, and the weight and volume it adds to the lens is not worth it for me. The plasticky and overall bad construction of new lenses and especially zoom lenses, paired with the surgical look they give to photos makes me despise them. Being able to afford lenses is very important for me, plus I like the fact of not giving money to companies that are just doing things worse and worse, I'll just get the things they did when they did things right. So to each their own. I use what used to be top tier professional gear that professionals used for decades to create pictures famous to this day at a fraction of the price of modern zoom lenses. And I think that's what works for me. It doesn't have to work for you :)
