You guys really seem to enjoy this type of video, would you like to see more like this where I show a bunch of images from different lenses? Let me know what you’d like to see
Hey Chris, absolutely love this video! It inspired me to get this lens and work on being more creative in my shots. I do have a question though, I got the lens yesterday and it's been making a rather loud clicking/grinding noise when changing Aperture stops. Is this normal? It's loud compared to my Sigma lenses, this is my first Sony lens however. I would really appreciate any feedback you can give.
I would say 24mm is not for the beginner I still struggle with it but love when I nail it. I use to say to people asking what lens to buy (shooting people) - "as you go wider, you need more experience, and you need to be braver standing closer as you are no longer a distant observer, and as a result you will get better images". This is often typically what you see when people learn photography they start at 85 or more and end at 24. You may call it the reversed rule of age.
I love your pictures. 24 mm with the wider FoV and DoF just feels a lot more immersive, real, relatable, memorable. I wish it was used a lot more, in cinema, photography, etc
I get it.. The 24 G Master is a great lens.. blah blah blah...but let’s address what’s really going on here. You got skills man!!! I mean every single photo you showed was was awesome 😎 I know you could do wonders with any lens. Yes, this video does make me want to purchase the 24, but I’m not naive enough believe that my photos would be as awesome as yours. It is what it is... It’s the photographer NOT THE EQUIPMENT!!! .. and you sir are are the epitome of that phrase. In the meanwhile I’ll just be over here trying to step my game up 😂
I cannot even begin to tell you how grateful I am for this. I have been searching tirelessly for a review that will convince me that I am purchasing the right lens. Given that there are seemingly limitless options, it has been nearly impossible to come to a decision; but you have convinced me to make the switch from Nikon to Sony. I started my photography business a few months ago, and have only used the Nikon D5300 with a 50MM 1.4, so I know little to nothing about other cameras, and lenses. Thank you so much for your clear, and concise explanation, as well as the sample images!! I love that you call it your ‘storytelling lens’, because your style of photography is EXACTLY the same as mine (or at least what I am aiming for!) I am obsessed with the ‘candid lifestyle’ vibe! 😂 Again, I cannot thank you enough! Please, please, please make more videos like this! They are incredibly helpful for clueless beginners such as myself!!
Couple of years ago i was shooting only with 50mm and 85mm. But with time i started to go wider and wider. And now 24mm GM is my favourite lens! It lives on camera. I fall in love with it! Most of the people thinks that 24mm for landscapes, but i tried to prove that it's a magic portrait lens! Now i think it's much more fun than 35mm. Chris, i really love your style of photos!
I think this 24mm lends is ultra versatile. I like that it can include a good deal of background and foreground, while enabling nice blurry bokeh as well. I’m going to buy this lens!
When shooting with 24mm I have more freedom to be able to tell the scene even going to get closer to the moment. I owned the 24-70 and 16-35 GM's, they are exceptional lenses (especially the wide angle) but I gave up on versatility focusing on creative ability. It is strange to tell it but frankly it is a lens that I prefer in an absurd way, and yet it is not easy to tell a story with 24mm but it inspires me and I will try to improve myself. Mainly my photographic genre and on documentary, travel, landscape and street. I confess to you that I liked this kind of speech very much and I would like you to talk about 85 GM, which are the favorite focal lengths when I work... Good work Chris...
Chris, this is the best video I've found on how to properly shoot a 24mm lens. Search on RUclips for 24mm videos by other pros and their images look terrible. They will do half body or headshots with 24mm which should really be done with 85mm or greater. Or they shoot a portrait with an ugly and busy background. Environmental portraits with wider angle lenses, like the 24mm, are very difficult to master because there's so much background. Your work is truly amazing and inspirational. Your environmental portraits are like beautiful landscape shots that happen to have people in it.
wow, you have just re-ignited my love for my 24mm GM. Really love this video and your photos. I have always thought your 24mm photos had such a unique "look". Excellent example of someone taking portraits with an atypical "portrait focal length", but making them look magical. much respect, brother
Thank you Chris this is the best review I’ve seen out of 10 videos on the 24mm 1.4 GM I love your story telling style a lot I’m looking forward to seeing more of your video you are the best!
it's just became sooo boring to look at this 85mm portraits. It's pleasing, but boring for me. I found that it's much more interesting to look at photos from 24mm. Especially with wide aperture like 1.4
This is exactly the kind of photography I love, the one that creates this perfect scene you can explore. The mix between the wide angle and the bokeh gives you this sort of 3D effect, kinda close to the medium format look. The composition feels like if the picture was alive. I had been thinking about getting a Sigma Art 24mm f/1.4, and this video is finally convincing me to get one. Your pictures are stunning by the way, awesome work!!
Picked up a SONY A7iii yesterday and I’m most definitely going to pair it with the 24mm GM. I had a sigma 35mm 1.4 on my 80d and was thinking about repeating but the versatility of this lens is something I cannot ignore. Been watching vids all day and this one has me sold. Appreciate you my friend.
Just got a 24mm lens and was looking for some examples how people use this focal length. Now, what can I say .... your shots are sooo nice!! I really, really like them. No, I love them! Thanks so much for showing your work with this lens! Your images are stunning.
Bud, I had to stop a minute into the talk to let you know that your photos are great, the composition catches my eye and they are so full of depth. I've only seen two of your vids, on the Sony 24-70, and now this one and immediately had to subscribe after you mentioned shooting the majority of your photos center weighted... I thought, here's a man who knows his profession, knows what he's talking about.
Hi Chris, do you often find yourself having to crop your 24mm images to exclude unwanted/distracting elements? btw great video and amazing pics! cheers
Oh my God! Your pictures are just stunning! As the other guys commented below, you made us desire to have a 24mm f1.4 now GM. Simply beautiful work and very creative. I watched another video you made reviewing the Sigma 35mm art f1.2, and finally, I ordered it. I wish to have a nice result as you are having using these wide-angle lenses. Keep up the great work Chris. Greeting from Ireland.
Yeah! Really inspiring video as I am trying to get the deeper feeling for my Fuji 16mm f1.4. I am always afraid to use it too much in real working situations... and I am always glad I did. I keep coming back and need to really learn this.. Great video! Do you have any videos coming up using the 16mm f1.4 I think there are many people that would love to watch. Or maybe some insights on when its time for the 23/35ff vs when the 16/24ff is the way to go. Regards from Anton Engblom in Sweden.
My first time watching one of your videos but it really helped me out! I need a lens on the wider side with my Sony a7 III and have been debating between the 16-35mm GM and the 24mm GM. I really think I'm gonna get the 24 because f/1.4 really makes a difference and 24mm looks to be a very versatile focal length. I really enjoyed seeing the photos you produced using your 24mm. Thanks Chris!
You sold me on the 24mm Chris - you showcased the versatility of this lens better than anyone else has done. I tossed and turned on getting the 35mm 1.4 GM (I have the 35 FE but I have an A7III - otherwise the 24 would have been no brainer). Thank you. Your framing is 1st class.
I'm absolutely in love with this lens after watching your video haha. Haven't been into photography as much the past 6 months because I've been busy at university, but I'm glad to see you're still making great content. At the moment I can't afford the 24, but this video has definitely motivated me to work hard on my photography again so that I can grow to take advantage of it and eventually afford it! Mostly once everything clears up. Cheers
These photos and perspectives are terrific! I have a Zeus’s 25mm but it must be broken because it cannot take pictures like these! Thanks for the lesson.
Love the content of this video - I own the 24mm 1.4 because of your reviews and love the sharpness and ability to crop in close to 35mm for that documentary style. I appreciate you talking about the “center weighted” nature of your style - as that is a challenge of the lens. Good to know that center is okay and not everything has to be rule of thirds. Thanks Chris
Thanks mate. I think the “rule of thirds” in general gets a bit old if your using it all the time. I would use it more in a vertical sense. Like a horizontal photo but having the horizon on the lower or upper third line.
I know everyone has their preferences and likes but I prefer this look for weddings and even portraits. I get the distortion but done correctly this can make pics more artistic and increases depth. Anyway great work
I've been binging your videos the past few weeks and have learned so much. Thanks for being real! I love what you said about it being the "storyteller" lens. I almost never take my 35mm off my camera.
This is really, really good stuff. I feel like I’m just starting to understand my 35mm I’m terms of depth creation. Really interested to give 24mm a try as the next evolution as my photography matures.
I just bought a 24 and after panicked if I’d made the wrong decision. Haven’t used it yet. Will do tomorrow. But your video has made me think I’ve made the right decision. Beautiful pictures 👌 very cinematic.
So, so cool. I’ve tried the 24 1.4 and LOVED it, but at the same time, it made me realize how much I’ve still got to learn in order to get good compositions with it. But The combination of wide angle and shallow depth of field is not something you see every day and I love the kinds of images it makes possible, especially with a prominent, but out-of-focus foreground. My longest lens is a 75 1.8 and I use it when I have to. Which happens a lot during ceremonies in churches. But other than that... Those long lenses bore me. Short focal lengths is where the fun begins. =)
This is a great video! I feel the same way you do about the 24mm. I like that you can get super close to the subject and still get a lot of the background! I'm convinced to get this lens. Thank you so much for this!
Not a pro. Been an f2.8 zoom user for a lot of my photography, but recently picked up an 85 f1.4 prime and it's been exceptional indoors, with low light environments. Ordered a 24mm f1.4 prime to try more indoors, in challenging light as the f2.8s can't always keep up. Thanks for the examples. I feel that generally faces shouldn't be closer than a certain distance from the camera with a 24 (maybe like 2-3 feet), nor too far off center axis (again depending on distance) but the environment shines with wide angle, whereas with an 85, you can really hone-in on the individual and personal placement isn't as important.
Hi again Chris, I saw your webpage its look very consistent (24mm good work). I wonder when you do hydride are you solo? Do you use the 24 as much as for photo coverage? Do the Atomos ninja helps? If you shoot hydride solo... do you prioritize some part of the wedding just for film. ex. portraits? Beautifully crafted films congrats. Thanks for your time maestro.
Definitely agree. I use this lens more any other I own for event photography. Would like to know if any of the images shown were cropped, and if you used flash at all. Either way, great work and thanks for the video.
Ordered the 24mm 1.4 sigma yesterday. Watching this today has me pumped. Just hope my weddings go ahead this year:) 28mm has being my story telling lens so far, it’s brought me in 72 weddings for this year but it is soft outside of centre so the 24 gives me more with sharper images. Win win :)
Thanks chris, love your video, I like the Sony 24 mm too, but sometimes having some issues of distortion because I forgot the center, or I was expecting differently. But I will definitely using it more, coz it dose create story with perspective. Just like a movie..!
Great insights Chris! I really like the 24mm GM too. It just has such little distortion and the rendering is just so beautiful - one of my favorite lenses of all time! I recently picked up the FE 35mm f/1.8 based on your review and user experience and that one is currently my favorite lens right now! Keep the great videos coming!✌️
Fortunately I own the 24gm, unfortunately I don’t use it - instead I use the very predictable 70-200 GM! Not anymore, I’m swapping the lens out today - the 24 is IN! Good tip about centre weighting the images but also experimenting with low-down shots.
the 24mm GM is so great. Recently I used it at an Event and now I really want it. I have the Sigma 35 1.4 and the size difference is big (lol). Love your pictures Chris!
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer Indeed! The 35mm really produces High Quality pictures an all regards. But compared to the 24mm GM it's ..so slow :D Even though pretty much all pictures are in focus, it always feels lagging behind somehow. I guess it's different with the 35 1.2, since it has a different motor. But yeah..really looking forward to own a 24mm GM. :) Love your pictures and Videos Chris. Keep it going! ^_^ I really hope to come to New Zealand soon..these beaches are crazyyy. :)
I just got the 24mm gm and had the 35mm for a few days a couple weeks back. I was thinking about getting the 35mm GM as well, but I feel like I wouldn't use it as often as the 24mm. Though I do like the 35mm compression. I really enjoy the 24, and liked it better than the 20mm G. Great shots and great video Chris!!
I was literally gonna ask what type of shooter you are (were) prior to shooting more 24mm. I’m a 35/85 both 1.4 (Sony) and rarely shoot at 24mm but do own the 2470 GM and only shoot 24mm during event photography. Realizing it comes down to what you shoot - in your case 24mm clearly makes sense and your skill takes that next level. I don’t shoot weddings (have considered now since available work after this may force me to branch out) and mainly portraiture and sports with real estate (17-28 Tamron). Perhaps once this is over I’ll go out with a friend and shoot exclusively at 24mm and see what’s good. If I become addicted and end up selling my kidney to get the 24mm GM I’ll blame you! Lol Hope you’re well..
Chris Turner Photographer Especially when your “clients” are clearly content with the work you deliver. I’m selling my 2470 GM if you’re interested?? 🤓
Finally got the 24 GM like 3 weeks ago, got a good used deal but like brand new. Love it so much, basically stays on my camera. I had a feeling I would love a fast wide prime from your videos. Thanks for the push towards this through all your positive words and dope pictures taken with it! Sold my Ricoh GRiii (which was fun, but I want an X100V down the line over it) and a 35mm 2.8 Zeiss I had sitting around and broke even. It sure is funny how as your skill improves you find more comfort in utilizing the wider angles. And that 1.4 though! Man it’s just gorgeous and so unique at 24. I’m afraid I won’t use my 16-35GM anymore lol.
This vid really gave me a diff.... perspective. Really like the format and am going push 24mm for a bit and see what I get. Thanks for the great content.
Just discovered your channel! Using the 35 1.4 and 85 1.4 myself too, I felt I needed to go a little wider, especially with foreground and background shots where there's a lot happening, and your video just confirmed what I felt and helped me decide! Excellent love the examples and will definitely be watching more of your content, subscribed :D
I primarily thought of 24mm 1.4 for landscape and astrophotography. I'm pleasantly surprised with your use of this lens for portraits. I'm looking to start practice shooting portraits with my lens.
Thanks mate. Needed this video. I bought the G master 24mm months ago and have barely used it. Been going back to my 35 too often. Need to start using it more!
Wow, that 24 mate is superb. Just amazing especially with the kind of skills that you have. The Brenizer method (bokeh panorama) was the thing that I absolutely like when I first saw it. I love wide-angle shots of landscapes and I was always curious how to photograph a wide-angle panorama bokeh until I saw that method. But to be honest, with your skills and the 24mm lens that you are using, it is more than enough for me. Kudos to you mate. Disclaimer: I don't know if ryan brenizer invented the bokeh panorama or he just learned it from someone, but as they say he popularized it.
24 with a d810 was my fav. crop mode and boom 35mm. no need for a 35 or 50. 24/85 and crop mode keeps the evil 24-70/70-200 combo away. cheers been stalking your channel good stuff lol
Tried out my 24mm g master lens last week & was a little out of my comfort zone. I keep going back & forth wether this lens was a good purchase but this video reassured me that it was a good choice. Ty
Chris Turner Photographer yeah man, I kinda followed your format and just kept them interacting. Really allowed me to be an observer and just focus on composition, check it out: www.pushcapture.com/post/ben-aleah-s-antelope-island-engagements Thanks so much for all you do
Could you have done majority of these shots with a 24-70 F2.8? What aperture are you usually at? I really starting to fall in love with the 24mm wide aperture look...it just look like a happy perspective.
Beautiful photos Chris! Thinking about getting a 24mm for a new system, but the sensible (and boring) part of me is telling me to stick with 35mm...so many decisions
loved this video. your work is amazing.... I just purchased my first 24mm lense. the New nikon z mount 24 1.8. It was hard to find other photographers who use this, so I appreciate this video. I am going to be practicing with the 24mm so I can get used to playing with perspectives. I think me using this range, would force me to get into the action!!
I see you follow Phil Penman. He's a really nice guy and I've had the pleasure to shoot alongside him back in our paparazzi days. He was with Splash and I was with INF. Crazy days those were. Now, I shoot weddings and love it. You've got a great chanal and you were one of the factors of me switching over to Sony.
You guys really seem to enjoy this type of video, would you like to see more like this where I show a bunch of images from different lenses? Let me know what you’d like to see
Chris Turner Photographer for sure bro. Especially for me as a beginner, it’s gives a great insight into the mechanics between the photo and the lens.
Awesome video Chris! Had a big doubt wheyher to get 35mm or 24mm but now I know what I want, cheers
Chris Turner Photographer yes please
I returned my XF 16mm 1.4 (24mm FF eq) after struggling with composition.... might have to give it another go in the future. Fantastic images mate 🔥
Hey Chris, absolutely love this video! It inspired me to get this lens and work on being more creative in my shots. Yeah definitely a little tricky to get the hang of it
Oh wow! So interesting to read this. Never thought of it but so true!! :0
Happend to me the same way. Whats your favorite focal length? :)
Love my 55mm 1.8, then 85mm f 1.4 and learning 24 f 1.4 (do not like the 35mm look)
True!
I started on 24mm not knowing what I’m doing... no wonder I find myself often frustrated
This is one of your best videos, and probably the best video I've ever seen talking about the 24mm specifically. Nice work.
Thanks Perry I wasn’t sure if it was going to be boring lol
The way you talk about distortion being part of what makes the image interesting taught me a lot.
I love your pictures. 24 mm with the wider FoV and DoF just feels a lot more immersive, real, relatable, memorable. I wish it was used a lot more, in cinema, photography, etc
Thanks for the inspo love my 35 and can’t wait to try out 24❤

Its really nice to see actually amazing photos taken by a pro instead of photos of a wall isn't it?

Awesome insights to the focal length and beautiful shots!
Jesus, now I'm even more in love with 24 mm. Your story about 24mm was excellent! Thanks!

Chris you've made us all want the 24mm GM, well done. Love your perspective. Best wishes from Wales.
I am so sold on this lens now!
@@shannonchristerson2544 Me too but its soooo expensive
@@billx4266 Yeah, i still haven't gotten it for that reason haha. I'll probably start with a cheaper 24mm.
I gave in and bought one! Damn you Chris!
Thank you al lot for that discover of the 24mm on a wedding shoot, really inspired me !

Thanks so much for showing your work with this lens! Your images are stunning.
I love how you’re wearing a Fujifilm X hoodie while talking about a Sony lens

Great photos. It gives a lot of perspective and story telling with the 24 mil

I’ve had the 24 for a while as well. Sounds like I just need more practice composing and making sure my focus is sharp. I love this lens! Great video.
Does take some practice :)
i love that you're actually legit at photography. good stuff!
Haha thanks man. I was a photographer long before I was a youtuber
Hi Chris, do you often find yourself having to crop your 24mm images to exclude unwanted/distracting elements?

I appreciate you talking about the “center weighted” nature of your style - as that is a challenge of the lens. Good to know that center is okay and not everything has to be rule of thirds. Thanks Chris
Thanks mate. I think the “rule of thirds” in general gets a bit old if your using it all the time. I would use it more in a vertical sense. Like a horizontal photo but having the horizon on the lower or upper third line.
Stunning images. Think I might get this lens instead of the 35mm gm
Your works are simply outstanding.
Just picked up this lens today thanks to your great advice and review on the lens. I absolutely love it!
I know everyone has their preferences and likes but I prefer this look for weddings and even portraits. I get the distortion but done correctly this can make pics more artistic and increases depth. Anyway great work
I appreciate the perspective on this lens. I was thinking of not bringing it with me but now I will.
I've been binging your videos the past few weeks and have learned so much. Thanks for being real! I love what you said about it being the "storyteller" lens. I almost never take my 35mm off my camera.
I really love your images. So tasteful and expressive. Your editing style is also very attractive, very subdued.
Just purchased this lens. Very excited to play around with it.
Chris you are an inspiration! Thank you for all of your videos and insight. You are persuading me to pick up 24mm for Weddings!
Very nice video! Calm, informative and not too flashy or hectic, like many other channels style. Just bought the 24mm 1.4, cant wait for it to ship.
Really love how u showed so many images as examples
Amazing review, really enjoyed listening to your story about this lens and your perspective. Well done!
Thanks for the perspective. I think I’ll use my 24mm more often and with center focus. I’ve always been more close up, but this angle makes sense too.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Great video, great info and awesome work!
Been debating for months on getting my next prime between a 35mm and 24mm. This convinces me to get a 24mm. Thank you!
Just checked. None of them had flash all natural light
Win win :)
Subscribed. You articulated perfectly why I am myself have been gravitating towards wider lenses. Thank you and beautiful pics.
Thanks chris, love your video, I like the Sony 24 mm too, but sometimes having some issues of distortion because I forgot the center, or I was expecting differently. But I will definitely using it more, coz it dose create story with perspective. Just like a movie..!
Keeping going with it!
missing the vids! Gotta go back through the archives! Hope all is going well for you man.
Thanks mate!
oh God, your photos form this lens is amazing! Really really cool!
I'm considered the 24mm mainly for video. I think it'll help my reviews much more.
I used to have the Sigma 35, nice lens but yeah the 24 is magic
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer Indeed! The 35mm really produces High Quality pictures an all regards.
But compared to the 24mm GM it's ..so slow :D Even though pretty much all pictures are in focus, it always feels lagging behind somehow. I guess it's different with the 35 1.2, since it has a different motor.
But yeah..really looking forward to own a 24mm GM. :)
Love your pictures and Videos Chris. Keep it going! ^_^
I really hope to come to New Zealand soon..these beaches are crazyyy.
Thanks mate, yeah I thought about getting a 24-70 for the ceremony haha I just can’t justify the cost
Chris Turner Photographer Especially when your “clients” are clearly content with the work you deliver. I’m selling my 2470 GM if you’re interested?? 🤓
This video should be a mandatory start for anyone trying 24mm for the first time! :)
Haha great comment. Thanks for the support on the channel Zack
I absolutely love what you can do with the 24. It’s a much harder focal length to get right, and you nail it.
Thanks bro!
Nice one Chris! Bought my 24 1.4 GM last May because of your photos 💯
I primarily thought of 24mm 1.4 for landscape and astrophotography. I'm pleasantly surprised with your use of this lens for portraits. I'm looking to start practice shooting portraits with my lens.
Brilliant video Chris. I agree 100%. If I was forced to keep only one lens, it would be the 24GM without a doubt. Stellar lens.
Thanks heaps!
beautiful! Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks mate. Needed this video. I bought the G master 24mm months ago and have barely used it. Been going back to my 35 too often. Need to start using it more!
You mention it a lot but I totally understand the want to get that depth with this lens!
Your photos are amazing! I just ordered a Sony a7siii and wasn't even considering a 24mm, but you've got me thinking...
Ty
Hows it working out?
Chris, your Sony 24mm videos convinced to purchase it. Maaaannn do I love it!👍🏾👍🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I just did a shoot recently using the 24 and 55 exclusively. Favorite combo 👍🏻
Awesome bro. So good eh
Chris Turner Photographer yeah man, I kinda followed your format and just kept them interacting. Really allowed me to be an observer and just focus on composition, check it out: www.pushcapture.com/post/ben-aleah-s-antelope-island-engagements
Thanks so much for all you do
Your tips on 24mm is really impressive, as a last straw to push me getting this len.
This is the best Sony 24 review. Great job and thanks.
Could you have done majority of these shots with a 24-70 F2.8? What aperture are you usually at? I really starting to fall in love with the 24mm wide aperture look...it just look like a happy perspective.
24 is for arrangements, as you arrange the scene
Beautiful photos Chris! Thinking about getting a 24mm for a new system, but the sensible (and boring) part of me is telling me to stick with 35mm...so many decisions
Thanks for this video, Chris. Just picked up the 24 GM so this is helpful.
loved this video. your work is amazing.... I just purchased my first 24mm lense. the New nikon z mount 24 1.8. It was hard to find other photographers who use this, so I appreciate this video. I am going to be practicing with the 24mm so I can get used to playing with perspectives. I think me using this range, would force me to get into the action!!
Meraki Photos nice man go hard
Hi, how far were you from the couple in the canyon? And also do you have to crop you images very often?
Great videos👍.
Thomas, Switzerland
I see you follow Phil Penman. He's a really nice guy and I've had the pleasure to shoot alongside him back in our paparazzi days. He was with Splash and I was with INF. Crazy days those were. Now, I shoot weddings and love it. You've got a great chanal and you were one of the factors of me switching over to Sony.
Great video thanks!
Really exited to buy mine
Best video I saw for the 24mm. Also very inspiring photos
