      No thank you I do not like 50mm lenses, 45mm and shorter are ok, 55mm and longer are ok. Back in the 70´80´and 90´a 50mm was only a cheap kit lens that was parked back down in a dark corner and never used, I do not see all the modern fuss about the 50mm lens, stop it. But if you can get your hand on a Voigtländer Macro Apo-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 it will be very awsome :D

    I bought the Sony A7III in 2019 with the 24-105 G F/4.0 lens. After a year of using that I was really noticing that most of my shots where at 24 mm or 105mm. I sold the lens and bought the 24 mm Gmaster F/1.4 and the 85mm F/1.8 from Sony. Best decision ever but to be honest, I hardly put the 85mm on. Once you get used to the 24mm on a Full Frame camera it becomes a second nature to take a closer step for portraits. Foodshots with the creamy Bokeh are amazing aswell :D. Ooh and BTW, your videos are amzing, keep them up! You are my GO to channel why I decided to go with Sony.

    You inspired me to buy a 24/1.4G and yep, it's a great lens. I really like its versatility and uniqueness. We all fed up with standart portraits on 85-135 mm lenses with completely blurred backgrounds. 24 mill gives a bit different portraits - shallow DOF and wide angle in one frame look different and eyes-capturing, we aren't used to this frames coz it's not standart. The background is blurred but due to a wide angle and bigger DOF (in contrast with 50, 85 and so on) you can show there's the subject at the moment and simultaneously isolate it from background. Oh, i really found my all-time-favored lens now!

    The 24mm GM did pair up very nicely with my both 50mm f1.4/55mm f1.8 for cosplay events. As the 24mm did allow some nice wide shoots and the 55mm did a solid job for portraits. I also paired those 2 for Italy. 24mm handled food. 50mm did a fair number of photos and portraits there also.

    I recently upgraded from a 24mm f/2.8 to the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 dg dn, and it's a fantastic lens. And when you mount it on an APS-C body, it shoots like a 36mm f/2.1, so I've got the 35mm look, when I want it.

    • @mrwashur1991
      @mrwashur1991 Год назад

      No you don’t lol. You have the compression and distortion of a 24mm and fov of a 36mm. Cropping in does not make a lens longer..

    • @careylymanjones
      @careylymanjones Год назад

      @@mrwashur1991 Conceded that the cropped 24mm is not a headshot lens. I have other lenses for that. But for landscape/cityscape photography, it's fine. And for landscape, extra compression may not necessarily be beneficial. A 24mm will generally have better DOF than a 35mm, which for landscape work, is usually better.
      Finally, the APS-C body in my kit lets me get effectively 6 lenses out of 3. It's like having a teleconverter that works with ANY lens, not just teles. I carry an 85mm f/1.8, a 45mm f/1.8, and the 24mm f/1.4, which, with the two bodies will easialy fit in a 12"x8"x8" shoulder bag, with room for spare batteries and other accessories. I'm covered for 24, 36, 45, 67.5, 85, and 127.5mm. Trying to match that with 6 separate lenses would require a substantial backpack, would be significantly more expensive, and be a pain to carry around.

    So what other benefits besides a lower aperture is there to a single zoom lens like FE 24mm F1.4 GM and FE 35 mm F1.4 GM vs the FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM? This one lens, I guess in theory, can do both in one lens, right? Clearly I am missing something and I am just really curious. Hi Jason, such a great video. So helpful in our quest to find the perfect vlogging camera. What size lens would you suggest is best for vlogging? We know you said here 24mm isn't too bad. We are looking for the best for wide angle. I may have to save up more money between the camera itself and a lens $$$$$....LOL. But seeing your videos and picture taking, I know we want to go with a Sony this time. I think we also need a gimble for stability when vlogging. Our channel is little subscriber wise, but I still want our videos to be great quality, and right now our Canon just isnt cutting it wide angle wise and it's pretty poor quality in the dark on rides. I got the 24mm 1.4 sigma and the 35mm 1.4 sigma for less than the price of one Gmaster lens! and I love them! but great video! love your perspective of this focal length, and I agree that the 24mm is the sweet spot for a wide angle lens, I actually think anything wider becomes too wide, especially if you shoot a 16-35mm at 16mm

      I was just googling this as I was looking for a more versatile lens for documenting trips and stuff too...only knocks I saw was that the Sigmas were much larger and heavier

    My widest glass is the Laowa 10-18mm. Sadly it maxes out at f4.5. Widest and brightest I have is the Sigma 14mm f1.8

    24 and 50 for me and Im set. 85 is to tight for food or a lot of interior work. So if you said to me in emergency you could choose two then this is my choice.

    Hi Jason, nice videos man, actually they pushed me to Sony instead of Nikon. I started photography as a hobby just 6 month ago and decided to go big equipment wise. I picked up a a7c and the sony 24mm GM and hardly put it down since then. Ok, maybe sometimes when I am at work to afford more photo stuff :). So anyways, since I am totally hyped with this new hobby it was well worth it for me to invest in another prime lense. 3 weeks ago the sony 135mm GM joined the team. To be honest, it is a big lense to carry around, but the results are fantastic. The combination of these lenses allow for a wide range of targets to shoot, and since composition wise, the look of these lenses is so different, I wont get bored with these two in a long time! Ah and btw., as a bonus, cause of covid I am working from home and man, you should see the envy of my colleages when I am using the 24mm to show up in team meetings :) So, greetings from germany, keep it up!

    Great video. So I look at it like this at weddings.... If the venue is amazing I use 35mm or 55mm a lot. If it’s ok I use 55mm mostly, if its a poor venue I use the 85mm mostly. Horses for courses. I have more recently stopped discounting zoom lenses. They are amazing as well. :-)
