    I mainly shoot concerts. My most used lenses are the 24-105 F4 that I bought with my first camera, and a 100-400 F4.5-5.6. My second purchase was a 70-200 F2.8, but the 100-400 has mostly replaced that; the slower aperture is less a hinderance than the 200mm of lost reach. My third most used lens is a 14-24 F2.8, but I use it far less than the other two.

      Wait I understand that you’re gaining 200 extra mm but you’re not gonna get as much light nor the creamy bokeh and is it really worth that? I mean I’m really torn between the variable aperature lens vs a low f stop zoom lens. Having used both can you give me a quick review please?

    • @trekkeruss
      @trekkeruss 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@mahidharnaraharisetty4212 I use manual with auto ISO. Any loss of light because of the smaller aperture is made up with a higher ISO, which is not a problem with a Sony full frame sensor. I can clean it up further as necessary with software; I use Topaz. I don't need nor especially want a super creamy background; I want to show the subject on stage, not with a totally blurred background.
      I do have a 135mm F1.8; I haven't used it much at concerts. It is a fantastic telephoto portrait lens.

    I've been on a Sony zoom kick lately and I'm loving it. Sold my last prime (Sigma 35mm f/1.2) to pick up the 16-35 GM II. So now I'm on a full zoom kit for my a1 and a7SIII. Sony 16-35 GM II f/2.8, Sigma Art 24-70 f/2.8, Sony 70-200 GM OSS II f/2.8, and the Sony 200-600 G. I always have the first 3 with me and it's easy to toss in the 200-600 when needed. Hi Jason, great video and alternative suggestions. I own the Tamron 17-28. While it is not the best, it gets the job done. I do not own the Sigma 85 but borrowed it to test for a month or so. The Sigma is perhaps the sharpest lens I have shot wide open. Another thing I like about the Sigma 85 was how light it felt on the camera.
    If I had the budget, I would go all GM lenses. But for budget reasons, I went with an all Tamron line up and totally happy with the results I am getting. I had a chance to shoot the Tamron 17-50 for a few days and it is a fantastic versatile lens. The only "downside" is that it is an f4!

    Yeppp... After I have traveled to a lot of countries and tried at least 10 different lenses with my hybrid camera (Sony A7IV) I would say the 24-70 is just not it, kind of overrated, its good if you can bring only 1 lens (I own a Sigma 24-70), but I barely use it... if you can do 2 or maybe 3. I would say my go to is 16-35 f2.8 GM and Tamron 70-180 f2.8 so I cover a lot from wide to telephoto range. I also bring a prime, the 35 f1.4 GM for casual walk around or low light scenarios. If I know that I need an Astro lens I replace the 35 with the 20 f1.8 G, but the lighter is your backpack the better overall experience is.

    70mm at f2.8 has plenty of separation; and wide lenses need a wider aperture for same result, hence the f1.4 and for a low light lens, I’d prefer a 35mm 1.4 over an 85mm 1.4

Iv never shot Sony before, iv had fujifilm XT1, Panasonic FZ1000 bridge camera, Canon 7d and a Canon M5 - im currently inbetween systems and weighing up what to go with, im thinking of giving Sony a try, the 7d with a 70-200 was so fricken heavy compared to the others whilst the M5 was so fiddly and small for my hands, Fujifilm at the time lacked a choice of lenses with next to no third party options - considered MFT too but im not sure about the quality of MFT images there appears to be some strange sort of noise throughout most of the images iv seen.
    If you are using a 24mp in APSC mode though and only getting 10mp, surely that is going to be a hinderance to your picture quality?

    A minimalist approach.... I can see that. What's the point of having lenses... that we hardly ever use? Thanks.
    Being just a hobbyist... I started idealizing zoom lenses at first.... Then I noticed that most of them were so slow... f/4, f/5... and unusable in low-light situations, they tended to collect dust inside, and most delivered softer IQ pics than primes. So for now, my ideal Trinity of lenses is a 28mm prime- wide, a 50mm prime- normal view and a 85mm prime- kind of telescopic... all at f/1.8. Rarely do I need to shoot specifically a 53mm, 37mm, or a 74mm shot... You get the point.
    - If I get into weddings, may have to invest in a macro lens... and a remote possibility would be the 200-400mm or a 70-200mm long zoom lens... We'll see.

    I'm planning to buy a sony camera this summer. If I I buy an a6700, I'll go with tamron 50-400mm and zeiss 55mm. But If I buy a full frame, let's say a7iv or used a9ii, I'll go with the same tamron lens but with zeiss 85mm

    Mine favourite two are the 1.4f Samyang 85mm and 35mm. I leave the small Tamron zoom, and sigma 17-24mm at home. I still need a 20mm 1.4f though… once I went fast prime, can‘t go back.

    Finally, a RUclips video from my fav gearhead to help justify to myself why I needed the 16-35GM II and 85 DG DN. Can’t wait for mk ii of the 85.
    Btw, I used the 16-35 GMII for my entire trip to Japan a few weeks ago and will be using it for my trip to Fujiyoshida and Tokyo in a couple weeks too. 85 was clutch for detail shots.
    My hike to Kiyomizu-dera did not go Vong ;)

    If you're on a really tight budget, the new Viltrox 20mm f/2.8 AF is available for Sony FE (full-frame E-mount), and it's only $158.00! Image quality is good, and the value is amazing. Another budget pick for the long end, is the Samyang 75mm f/1.8. It's under $300.00.

    Hi Jason
    I'm new to the world of photography, looking to buy my first professional camera, really like the a6700 or the fx30, I'm planning to do more photography than video, but i do want a camera to do both.
    What camera do you think I should go for?
    Thanks

    On a recent trip to Thailand I had the a7cII with 12-24 f2.8 and the 24-70 f28. As well as the RX100vii. I ended up only using the RX100 and the 12-24. The former was when I wasn't really going out to shoot something specific and the a7cII when I was specifically going to shoot stuff.

    Curios why 16-35 and not 24-70? Do you find having that 16mm is super necessary over 24mm for travel photography?

    Noob question: what would be the difference between the Sony 16-35mm you recommend, and the Sony 16-50mm kit lens?

    • @foxydnaaa
      @foxydnaaa 11 месяцев назад

      It’s the build quality and image quality! It has a constant aperture of 2.8 which will give you better bokeh when you start shooting more you will realise the auto focusing breathing in kit lenses is decent or just bad when compared to better quality lenses.

    Most places I just use the 24-70mm f2.8 GM(mki and now mkii). I just pair it with the 15mm F2.0 laowa.
    For my trip to japan and Philippines I may just get the sony 20-70mm F4. Single lenses travel. If I feel a prime portrait lenses is needed then the 55mm F1.8 as that small.

    I carry the FE 24-240mm or 36-360mm in APSC mode and the very old APS-C E 10-18mm (15-27mm) that in full frame is 12-18mm (18mm if you remove the light shield) f/4 OSS Soooo small and with treads for filters or stick with any one of the Sony 16-35mm.

    For me, it would be zoom lenses. The Sony GM 24-70mm F/2.8 and GM 70-200mm F/2.8. As much as i love my 85mm and 135mm Portrait lenses, they are just good for portraits. With my zoom lenses, i can shoot any environment even if the bokeh is plain haha.

    Oh, yes, I've been doing that for 40 years! Currently Canon 24-240! Very underrated lens with lens corrections done by the camera for jpeg!
    Funnily I won a lot of photo prizes using just ONE lens. The 55mm which came with my Ricoh Singlex 35mm film camera!
