- did anyone else ever mix records on their pokemon ruby pokemon sapphire or pokemon emerald? I think in hindsight, it was a feature that was really ahead of the game that I did not appreciate at all at the time. if only every mystery gift event could be transferred to different saves like this, then I would have used it. Pokemon history is filled with so much substance I love it

And then in remakes they made it so you can receive the ticket for Lati that you wouldn't normally get in story, through Street Pass. Shame that, again, they didn't use use that feature for other distributions.

I'm pretty sure they did the Streetpass Method as a callback to how it had to be distributed via Record Mixing back in yhe day.
Especially since if you streetpass people you get information of their TV exploits in your game's TV feed.
I remember when ORAS came out, they cancelled Thursday sport due to a heat wave (Australia go brrrr) and so we had 1800ish students in the school hall and someone yelled they had an eon ticket and you immediately see a bunch of us take out our 3DS. Man it was good to finally have both the Lati twins.

As a poor person, I literally never got to experience the same Pokèmon as most people because I was always a few gens behind. So it's always offline play for me. Never knew how to find out about these events anyway, only learned they were a thin years and years later

i was in the same boat. never experienced distribution events until gen 5. before that i just used an action replay to unlock those mons.
Well there’s always cheats… Also if you’re talking about DS games, there’s an alternative WFC setup that gives you all those missing events.
If it makes you feel any better; you weren't really missing out.
As a child my family was on the verge of middle class and poverty; but I normally would find a way to get the latest games even if it was by selling all my other games or doing chores/odd jobs to get it, and managed to go to a few of these events at places like toys r us when they still existed.
Anyhow these 'eventmon' are cool for the nostalgia factor, and are cool for collectors; but they're more nostalgia than anything. The eventmons given are often non transferrable to new games, or if they are transferrable; they're blocked from competitive play as they have access to moves they normally wouldn't otherwise... and usually are stat perfect. In some cases like with the pkmn sword event; you can't even trade the mons you get and they're just shiny versions of the box legendaries that you couldn't get otherwise.
So its fun to be a part of the community if you have the latest games, but it's never been a reason I bought a pokemon game. I just bought scarlet after like 1.5-2 years of it being out cause I got it used for $33 as I was unwilling to buy it for $60 for what it was. I only had pkmn sword cause my dad said he found it in the dumpster at his work. Events are cool, but have zero impact on how I spend my money. Nobody should feel like they missed out. These events solely exist just to influence the easily influenced to spend their money on the latest games.
I remember learning about this event in 2005, and dreaming about seeing Latios at Southern Island. I wasn't able to get my hands on the Eon Ticket then, but I finally did more than 10 years later. In 2018, on that same original Sapphire save file, I successfully hunted for a Shiny Latios. That felt so awesome...

@@Not_interestEd- It sure is. We used it to get the Mystic Ticket, Aurora Ticket, Old Sea Map, and even to access the e-Reader Pokémon in Colosseum. The results of those were successful Shiny hunts for Lugia (FR), Deoxys (LG), Mew, and Scizor.
This event ended a friendship of mine. A supposedly friend of mine I had known since I was 2 went to the event and got the tickets, but refused to give it to the others players in the friends group. At first we didn't know why, but he also refused to do record mixing, and we later found out that it also was to prevent us from having the tickets. I think he wanted to have some leverage over the others or something, but it basically killed our friendship, which was a good thing, as he came out as the petty asshole he was. I ended up getting the ticket from a random kid I knew for literally 5 minutes in a summer campus.

Something interesting with Record Mixing:
If you mixed records with someone who had a secret base in a different location than yours, that person would appear as an NPC in place of the PC they would have in their base.
And if you talked with them, it would start a battle with the party of pokemon they had on them at the time you mixed records.
I was one of the no-lifers in my area growing up so I was the first person with a team of level 100 ubers from the entirety of gen 3 (because I had all of the games except Emerald which my brother got) and it was a staple thing for the pokenerds of my town to record mix with me to get my trainer in their game as a "final boss".
You would also get the secret bases they had gained from other people. My first save file for Ruby got corrupted and I had to restart, but it was awesome to see that part of it had lived on when my friend mixed records with my new save file. I had made my new base in the same tree as my old base, so I was my own next door neighbor!
Like how the Secret Key in Platinum is the only gift to ever utilise the Share feature
I had a very hard time confirming this- Was that sharing region locked to Japan? Or could everyone do the sharing?
@@droomish1 every region could, but the only players who could share were the ones who received the gift firsthand. Those who had the gift shared to them couldn’t.

That’s the whole point of L.I.M.I.T.E.D. Time events. Why don’t people get this? Everyone acts like Nintendo is horrible cause you missed out on a fictional monster when you were 2.

This way of sharing mystery gifts was brilliant. It meant that people who could attend the event could offer the rewards to people who couldn't. I didn't get the eon ticket in Alpha Sapphire, but then met someone at a convention who had the ticket, and it meant I could have both of them. It was a really rewarding experience.
I've heard of someone working on custom e-reader cards that unlock events that were specific to distributions. I personally still have my eon ticket and all the copies of ruby & sapphire (my original two and all the duplicates i got for vacations when they were going down in price) plus the swme for fire red leaf green and emerald, so that event is no issue, but i'd love to get the pokemon rocks america events, deoxys, and so on in my current playthroughs of secondary carts.
Shoutout to anybody else who still has their Pokemon Colosseum bonus disk and made all their friends over the moon with their own Jirachis both back then and nowadays!
imablisy on youtube has set up a really strong infrastructure to get the events by ereader at this point, it's ultra impressive stuff

Yeah I’ll never understand why Pokemon, a series all about collecting them all, has so many just completely limited Pokemon. It’s almost like they want you to hack them in.
They probably do it thinking you'll buy another game just to get it but the fact that they were only obtainable for a very short period of time means it's just better to hack the game. Nintendo is so annoying with that stuff, they don't want you to pirate old games even though they're basically impossible to legally buy
Pokemon is truly a battle between completionists and the games. Gladly, we are mostly winning since only a few Shiny Pokedex-entries across the games are unobtainable without cheating.

My dad got the EON ticket for my brother and I from E3. We were legit the coolest kids on the planet for a week or so 😂
The reason for certain events originally was to distribute an update that fixed something massive usually something that was dealing with a timer or counter. These updates were typically a situation where they didn't find the problem until after the game shipped or it couldn't be fixed until after it shipped. The fixes used the special Pokemon as a way to promote its spread though it wasn't perfect and sometimes you would find a 1.0 game with the event Pokemon or a 1.1 ect game without the Pokemon even in its pokedex
And it hasn't ever been reset or hacked in either case. I have also seen situations where events acted like viruses or glitches and situations where event Pokemon were released in a way that wasn't initially intended. For example wrong level, shiny status, form, held item, Pokemon powers, move sets, ect.
This problem/strange situation has been an issue for a long time and has had beneficial side effects and harmful side effects in addition to causing problems with conflicting data between the truth of the games and the official statement about what and why certain Pokemon are legitimate or not.
The most interesting separations I have found over the years are as follows for the most part. Ditto with four moves instead of only transform. Ditto with a power known as DNA sample which allows it to take the form of any other Pokemon that has been on the battlefield during the battle when it enters the battlefield. Ditto with the ability to copy any other Pokemon power. Chancy and Blissy with a Pokemon power that doubled their health when they entered the battlefield. I can keep going but these bits of promo strange events have apparently been getting worse over the recent years.

Save your tears, in the incoming pokemons games you will be able to travel back in time for these events so keep them on the closed
The only game series I know of that can lock content behind an unlockible wall that was only once openable during a real world event.

I remember searching and searching and searching for GameShark codes. I eventually found it in a forum. It was for the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket. Gave you access to Naval Rock and Birth Island.

Man I honestly don't remember. This was almost 20yrs ago on dial up internet at my grandma's. I don't even have the game or GameShark anymore. May have been GameShark forum. I'm sure you can find the codes fast af these days.

Cool thing about this is it means it’s possible to get the event legitimately in modern day. A friend who was there for the event day back and I mixed records when we hung out and I was able to get it a few years back
I miss when they actually had ingame events for stuff like this, instead of just handing them to you at a Pokémon centre, made them feel just that little bit more special.
This is a great video, I'm an aspiring game developer and I love the idea of being able to make a series that manages to cross generational lines. This kind of thing is exactly the kind of way I want to develop, not lock things to certain times but still have something to get at events etc
Having a way to allow players that participated in an event be able to share the reward for that event is a really nice way to achieve that, getting people who have been playing a long time something to attract newer players to interact with them and the other way around.

E-reader cards with the Eon Ticket were reusable too. Those were actually given out for free in a certain issue of Nintendo Power back in '03. The only catch was that you had to have a save file that didn't have the Eon Ticket loaded, though, so this made it very limited use unless you restarted your game from scratch in order to use it again.
That exception makes the term "Mystery Gift" make a lot more sense than usual

Although they were all in Generation III as well, since those were distributed over Mystery Gift, they couldn't be shared. Theoretically, a sharing feature could've been turned on for them (because such was possible, even back then), but the events as distributed were not programmed to be shared. For a limit on 25 record mixes, I don't think that's the case, but I could be wrong.
Today, the good folks of Digiex/Project Pokémon have gotten their hands on every Generation III event, and they've specially programmed these events so that they are shareable, even through Mystery Gift.
An interesting (and infuriating) thing about the e-reader is that it is connection dependent. Meaning the link cable has a specific slot one and slot two, and it only works properly when in slot 2
Even then, it was limited to 30 record mixings.

I remember after completing my National Dex legitimately in Emerald, I decided to go for the events. I dumped my savefile to an sd card using a homebrewed wii, gc link cable, and my gba sp. I then accessed my savefile on an emulator on my laptop. Using cheat codes I added the event key items to my bag and then went to each island and leaving immediately. Then, I saved the game and put the savefile back on my cartridge. Now I can catch Mew but I haven't done so yet since I want to shiny hunt it. I did catch Latios, though, and made sure it had decent IVs for the Battle Frontier.

This was just the 3rd Gen so I'm not sure if I exactly say it's the exception...that being said it's frustrating that the Wi-Fi distributions in later generations are time and region locked and aren't really accessible ways to get event Pokemon as I thought before.
While this is true, there is one part that is wrong. In Omega ruby and Alpha saphire, if you are the proud owner of one of these tickets, and another player who owns a copy of the game passes by you, you can acquire the ticket as well via street pass. Therefor, its not the only game. But rather, its the only item.

Exclusive time sensitive events is why I quit some games. If it’s an MMO I don’t care they’ll be dozens of more events but static games with real world time sensitive events are garbage.
This is how I got the Eon Ticket as well. My brother received it from a friend via the same method, and I got it from him.
The street pass version in ORAS takes the cake. I still travel with mine, getting a pass every month or so. Hopefully I’ve helped someone lol
The street pass event was awesome for oras. I was in college when the game came out and right after its release I was shoved into a car to drive from Iowa to Pennsylvania to visit my sister for Thanksgiving, played the whole 18 hours. I'm guessing it happened at a gas station or rest stop but I was looking at my key items and found the ticket during the trip. Messaged all my friends and we were so hyped! I can't imagine how many people I gave that ticket too during my trip

Well, I'd argue getting Phione, and Zorua before B2W2, are similar cases to this.
I carried my 3DS around in case someone had the Eon ticket for ORAS. It worked when i got it feom a random house i passed on the way to school.

No, you just didn’t have access to for a multitude of reasons. Your attitude is just a sore loser in denial. Back when I was a kid I couldn’t fly to New York to get a Pokémon center distributed mew. But yes, a game shark sufficed. Not gonna act like participating in an event wouldn’t have been cool tho.
You can also use battle frontier save scum to clone pokemon and held items in emerald

I find it interesting how specifically the eon ticket can be used this way but the aurora ticket, an item that exists in both frlg and rse, that was gifted through a similar method in France _and_ Mexico, cannot do this to obtain the aurora ticket back in ruby/sapphire.

Pokemon Bank is cursed in general. Not all legit Pokemon are actually allowed in, which is why there is technically a destinction between legit and legal.
I have mixed feelings about the event encounters for legendaries. On the one hand, I think it's a cool idea and I like it better than using a code or something to get a legendary/mythical from a gift. On the other, I didn't get to do most of them. For some of them you had to go to an event or get something from a game store or something like that and some of them, like the azure flute for summoning Arceus, were never released in America so you had to cheat to get them. I wish they would bring back the legendary event items but make them more accessible than they were in the past. Just another cool feature long time fans enjoyed that GF continues to ignore. *sigh*

This is kinda the one thing that I hate about event Pokemon. They're timed, so if you don't hear about it in time, it's now impossible to get it. Why not just have a storyline to fight and catch it? Or just give one to everyone some other way? It feels very excluding to give a special Pokemon to only specific players that are in the right time and place, with the right knowledge, instead of letting everyone get one. That's how the box legendaries work. Why can't it be the same for all the "special" Pokemon?

Just allow every dex Pokémon to be caught…I get it some are trade evos and game specific. But legendaries and mythicals not specific to a version should be available with each copy of the game.

90% sure you can
in RSE, to spread the item, you need to have the event flag checked and not just the item. I have a secondary ticket that will not pass, that's how I did the test for this. You can chain them in ORAS with streetpass though

I think it is more of a pattern than a rule
I never bothered with all that nonsense, just used a instant replay for newer games and a game shark for older ones. Much simpler to get the event Pokémon that way.

Gen 3 and Gen 4 were the best generations
For me, in order of my best ones, it’s:
1 - Platinum/Emerald at the same place
2 - X & Y/Sun & Moon as along with their Ultra counterparts at the same place
3 - Kanto & Johto games 1st & 2nd Generations
4 - Black & White, 1 & 2
For the latest generation, I can’t really grade it as I never played any Switch Pokémon games instead of just Pokémon Legends: Arceus!
I’m thinking of buying soon Pokémon Pearl & Diamond Switch Version, but isn’t already on the possibility yet to buy and play Sword & Shield neither of Scarlet & Violet yet as today’s video games from Nintendo are too much high for the prices, when back in our days, Pokémon games costed around only 40 to 50$ and if we were lucky, 30$!
And rent already being too much priced up by the inflation nowadays, we have to mostly give up nearly every dollars and cents of our paycheck only for our rent, to the point we don’t even have too much for eating, thus not having any money for games to buy! 😕
P.S.: Sorry of having bifurcated from the original topic at the end! It’s hard to enjoy our favourite games when those companies make it harder nowadays to be able to get to play their game at the hands of the Working Class gamers! Sadly they are only focusing on Middle Class fans!
